Hi Dave398,
How your build is going?

How the SS MF has been. does he acknowledge the defects and fix them as per report by independent inspector? Re: Arden Developments 3125Mar 02, 2018 10:13 am So we are going in for our colour browse this weekend at Berwick. Is there any tips on what to focus on at this point? I assume they have things that denote "upgrade" without telling you pricing at this time. Does that sound about right? Re: Arden Developments 3126Mar 02, 2018 10:16 am dave398 gags Looking great. . Hope things pick up the pace. How the SS MF has been. does he acknowledge the defects and fix them as per report by independent inspector? MF was always good with taking problems onboard and fixing them. I just recently got a new SS though NM. He's new to Arden. Seems good but time will tell. I haven't heard good things about NM. Someone on this forum was complaining about him not being good at his job if he is the same guy. Re: Arden Developments 3127Mar 02, 2018 10:19 am gags dave398 gags Looking great. . You can them take them out at tender. You can also go back to the colour room at tender too if you choose not to go with an upgrade and need to change. We are going to head to a few display homes before hand to get some inspiration as a starting point. Re: Arden Developments 3131Mar 02, 2018 12:33 pm I’d love some feedback from those who’ve done their electrical plan or savvy with such things! We currently use wifi for all our data and internet connections. Our TV is plugged into a television socket in the wall. We don’t have cable but use Apple TV occasionally - again wifi. Our new house will be two storey and we have little people growing into big people. What is the benefit of cabling to all rooms? What is a GPO? What do I need to know that I don’t??Can we just run a similar system to what we have now? Thanks all - greatly appreciate your input! So... here are some of your answers, others feel free to correct me or add to this! GPO: General Power Outlet. Arden provide double points at all standard outlets, some of them are also USB enabled for power and any single points are usually for appliances (like dishwashers). Network cabling: This comes down to how much data you push through the house. For the majority of users wifi is usually enough, however if you want to push large video around, cabling is normally more robust. The other thing to consider is if you are going to have a home "landline" phone. Cabling requirements for this change if you are on the NBN as you dont have a standard phone line any more. WiFi: again, depends on use case. I live in an 18sq house now, but I run 2 ceiling mounted WiFi Access points. the reason: At any one time i have around 30 -35 devices connected to my network. I expect this to grow when we build our new house as I will be adding multi-room audio capabilities in as well. However, for most houses, a consumer mesh wifi system should be enough for most houses (a mesh system will have a number of devices scattered through the house that boost signals). You could move to a prosumer/enterprised based system, but you also need to know how to configure the minute details. as a starting point there is Google Wifi and Ubiquiti Amplifi as well as a number of options available. Personally, I will have 2 LAN points in the study and 1 in each of the theatre, Master Bedroom, living & kitchen and 2 ceiling points for wifi. Also, 3 cables for CCTV and possibly one at the front door for a doorbell (if i find the right product). If you have any additional questions or if i have simply ranted too much and dont make sense, let me know. Re: Arden Developments 3133Mar 02, 2018 1:32 pm I forgot to add, make sure you have enough GPO's in the spaces you need them and consider how you use the room. In my current house, the standard build put only 1 GPO in smaller bedrooms and 2 in the master. It was well and truly not enough. Also... if you are having wall mounted TV's, make sure the height of the TV points and GPO's are specfied. So if we are lower end users, the normal NBN cable to house plus wifi plus a few amplification devices is reasonable. If we wanted to future proof, would it be sensible to run cable to two or three centralised points in the house (living areas, study?) that could be extended if needed? Thanks again - very helpful for a low tech person like me Re: Arden Developments 3137Mar 02, 2018 7:37 pm Oh and if anyone is NOT planning on increasing USB points but feeling a bit unsure of their decision, I felt somewhat comforted to see that the latest MacBook Pro has not got any USB ports but a next generation port...forget the name. So USB may eventually be obselete if Apple has their usual influence??? Hi Treedance, We've just finished our colours/electrical's and tender. We have put multiple data points in each room but are doing a home entertainment automation system and potentially other home automation in the future. I'd agree with Phillo that netork cabling will be better if you want to stream HD video to different locations. We found the Fisher bros. consultant to be very helpful in finding solutions to our requirements. I'd definitely suggest the WiFi access points would be worth considering at least to help phones/iPads/laptops etc. Also need to think about Foxtel points (if you currently have it or might want it in the future). Being a double story you want to be confident you have everything you need now or might want in the future as getting things in downstairs later can be problematic. And you can never have too many powerpoints! Re: Arden Developments 3139Mar 04, 2018 10:26 am Hi all, We're looking for recommendations for independent building inspectors. We've just gone through the tender stage and have contracts coming up in 6 weeks. So far everything has gone fairly smoothly for us from an admin side and we've been happy (plans at tender were correct to that stage, not too many things were incorrect and the few that these was were quickly rectified) However, reading through some of the issues people have had on here and the FB forum during the build stage does make us somewhat nervous. If anyone can recommend any building inspectors they have used it would be appreciated!
