Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 26, 2013 3:07 pm Hi. Second post here about our first time about our new home build. DH and I want a colourbond roof. However our builder can apparently do a tiled roof much cheaper due to bulk buying of tiles. I have only ever lived under metal roofing and my understanding is that tiles can get damaged, fall off and leak etc. What do people think? Is colorbond worth paying a bit extra for? Re: Roofing - which way to go? 2Apr 26, 2013 4:03 pm I have had both but would probably go for Colorbond if building again. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Re: Roofing - which way to go? 5Apr 26, 2013 4:28 pm have had tiles for 26 years and for the new build have opted for colorbond . i would definitely pay for the upgrade to colorbond. they look fantastic. there is a link somewhere colorbond vs tiles Re: Roofing - which way to go? 7Apr 26, 2013 9:42 pm If an investment point of view colour bond for the lack of maintenance . But Ms Echo says she loves the sound of the rain on the colour bond so we have in our place also. But she likes the sound of the dishwasher during the night so she may be a tad unstable I also like how it looks pending the colour you choose. Staking doesn't come up much in WA so can't comment on that. Sme people say it is too loud when it rains heavily, I just drink more , dont bother me. In the ACT this might be desirable. I find this behaviour annoying in Sydney except in the middle of winter. For the 8 months of the year I would prefer the heat from the roof to be gone when the sun goes down. Re: Roofing - which way to go? 9Apr 27, 2013 8:55 am We've had both. In our old house that was built in the 90s, we had problems with possums getting into the roof & mice even though we live smack bang in the middle of Sydney with hardly any bush or large trees around. Tiles do fade, & the heat factor is correct. They heat up during the day & radiate that back into the house at night ( even though we had roof insulation as well) , was very annoying in summer. The house we're in at the moment was finished last year, we put a colorbond roof in, partly because we were told that it would be lighter on the frame ( it's a 45sq two storey ) , not noisy at all when it rains, but maybe because we have sarking & insulation...I think it just comes down to personal preference. Re: Roofing - which way to go? 10Apr 27, 2013 12:06 pm I'm going against the flow here and say tiles. I have lived in a house with a metal roof and when it rained, you couldn't have a conversation or watch tv - and we had insulation but still..Also there have been several times where I've had to chase a wall or replace an exhaust fan and other things and it's a whole lot easier just removing a few tiles than unscrewing a whole panel. Furthermore, I prefer the look of tiles. I think a metal roof makes a house look like a shed, especially when its the non-colorbond silver type. Have lived in a tiled house for 9 years now and never had a leak. The tiles still look brand new as our neighbours houses do. Just my opinion. I plan on installing an undercover walkway (awning ??) from my carport to the back door as shown in sketch. I will be using Boxspan Beams and have no concerns regarding… 0 755 Yeah mine about 9 metres long and 8 wide with slope of 25% at one point but the end point of the outlet is past the side of garage and if he concretes allowing for… 4 4534 4 9060 |
