Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Internal sliding doors versus traditional doors 2Apr 26, 2013 4:25 pm Try and go regular or no doors where possible (e.g. WIR doesn't necessarily need a door), mainly if you are going to have them painted white. It can take only a matter of weeks/months for white cavity sliders to go yellow if they are kept open/in th wall most of the time - apparently because of the warmth in there. Even if you are going to be having them a different colour (which technically should eliminate the problem), I still prefer regular doors - but that's just personal preference, as I hate opening and closing sliders! Even with the little click in/out pully things they have now, I still find them annoying! 1st build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=59376 *New*-2nd build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70324&p=1154282#p1154282 Re: Internal sliding doors versus traditional doors 3Apr 26, 2013 4:25 pm in the walk in robe we opted for sliding doors as we felt with regular they took up more space. plus you can get some really nice sliding doors . the ones i am going for are called heric sliding doors for bed 4 walk in will have glass one side and white glass on the other. bed 2 again opted for sliding as i felt that the doors would open to far into the bedroom losing space. these are going to be black glass. the other walk in robes will have no doors at all even our ensuite does not have doors Re: Internal sliding doors versus traditional doors 4Apr 26, 2013 9:28 pm I think it is more a question of what you prefer. Like 1rocky said though in a limited space opening doors take up more room. Personally I prefer sliding doors on things like pantries, WIR etc but opening doors between rooms. I don't really like them because: 1. They can be noisy in operation 2. They don't seal out drafts and noise as effectivly as hinged doors. 3. Re: Internal sliding doors versus traditional doors 6Apr 27, 2013 6:39 am We've got robes with sliding doors - one frosted and one mirrored in the 2 spare bedrooms and I've asked for just one mirror door for the WIR because I wanted a full length mirror in the master anyway and it makes the room a lot more spacious. My partner wanted one on the ensuite too but I think a door seals better and if you'r in a hurry you don't want to be messing around with closing doors gently https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=64434 Building our own custom design based on the Elwood by Dale Alcock Land settled - November Plans submitted to council - January Prestart - March Slab - 18 September Brickies - 23 October Re: Internal sliding doors versus traditional doors 7Apr 27, 2013 9:54 am I think normal doors is preferable, but sometimes it's just not ideal. We have a sliding door for our ensuite, just because if we had a normal door we would lose too much space. That's the only place we have it though, and I'm hoping it's not going to be too noisy (DH gets up at 5.30 for work).
