Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 1101Aug 23, 2015 10:25 pm All builders have some type of delays, they all promise in the beginning unicorns and rainbows, but once you get in the pre-contruction delays begin... It took 8-9 months in pre-contruction before they started the build, but once they start its full steam ahead... I am in new estate and everybody is building and everyone I talk to has the same story with delays no matter who the builder is. I have good supervisor and keeps something happening on the site and that is what matters to me, building is a stressful, but in the end I am going to have a super beautiful well build quality home and Kurmond is definately on of the better builders out there. I dont see them as stock standard project builder, as there quality is very good. Best of luck everyone with the build, and remember the most important thing our beautiful new homes at the end of a very long rainbow. Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 1104Aug 24, 2015 7:46 pm EK1976 Bathroom looks great! I'm guessing that was an upgrade : ) Big Mama & Ses_78 Thanks for the feedback and advice, it has been really helpful. We have a meeting with KH in the morning. Pretty sure we are going to go with them, unless they do something to really scare us off!! Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 1105Aug 24, 2015 8:42 pm Mishbut, good luck for your appointment... Something that I regret not doing was adding a window in the stairwell ( will be adding a skylight after handover I think) and a window in the laundry. It would of been great to have the extra natural light on both these areas, just something to think about if you do go with the forest glen design Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 1108Aug 25, 2015 5:45 pm We put a large skylight in the study as it is in the centre of the house. We also chose a laundry door that had glass at the top. This gave natural light plus a few bonus points for Basix. Mishbut Hope it went well. Does yr application need to go to council or can you do CDC? Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 1109Aug 25, 2015 6:03 pm Hi Big Mama, all went well. Except the base prices have gone up!! We haven't signed on the dotted line yet but pretty sure we'll be giving the green light tomorrow. This is the first time I have heard of CDC as I assumed that all developments have to go through council. I've just done a bit of research and it sounds intriguing! Do you have experience in this process? Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 1110Aug 25, 2015 6:43 pm Hi Big Mama We did the same with our laundry door and put a glass top in, plus the window in the stairwell and the cool touch recessed lights to the stairway walls to avoid the need to have a light high up where is is impossible to reach if needed. How far are you off completion and handover (yay that word just sounds so exciting) Good luck mishbut with your decisions and there are many more to come as you get into the process. Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 1111Aug 26, 2015 1:28 pm Mishbut The prices increased during our build so we were hit with extra costs for that too. Complying development was established as a way of quickly processing development applications that meet certain criteria. It is meant to clear the months of backlog experienced by all applications going to council. In effect CDC is in competition to council. Beware…not every DA is suitable for CDC application. Check with your council. Our council is really weird as several suburbs our council looks after can all go through CDC except our street and the next street to us are prohibited and MUST go through council (which took over 7 months for our approval and it was straight forward with no complaints from neighbours and everything presented in the DA was approved by council). They are sooooo slow. CDC will only take 10-14 days for approval BUT it does take maybe 12 weeks or more to get their very specific documentation ready. I think maybe another forum member Nav12c went through CDC and probably others did too. Loks Every week we think "only 6 weeks to go". This has been the longest 6-8 weeks in history. Progress is extreeeeeeemely slow at this stage. Hardly anything seems to get done each week. Might know more after Friday's walk through. Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 1114Aug 31, 2015 9:12 pm Our tunnel just got longer. We are about three weeks behind schedule cos gyprock still not finished which is now delaying other trades. Electrical was due to finish tmw but been put back a week until gyprock done. Think builder should find some replacement tradies. We will now be charged storage fees for all our new furniture cos we won't be in the house on time. Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 1115Aug 31, 2015 9:28 pm Oh Big Mama oh no, will they try to catch up in other places... Loks, how did you go with your walk through.... Our bathroom tiling are complete and vanities are in, and kitchen cabinets installed, but we have some issues there, we are getting them sorted out with SS hopefully.... Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 1116Aug 31, 2015 10:01 pm EK1976 They can't do things out of sequence or it will ruin the overall finish. The only jobs left are gyprock, painting, electrical, tiles, carpet, stormwater pit and driveway. At least during our walk through we noticed how meticulously they have marked tiny areas for painter to fix. Be assured everyone that the final product will certainly be a high quality finish. Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 1118Sep 01, 2015 7:03 am Oh Big Mama, to put it bluntly, that sucks.... so so close. Is it the finishing off on the gyprock that you are waiting for? Hope they get the gyprock finished asap so they can move forward. EK1976 super exciting you are nearly there, must be looking awesome. Walk through went well, they were insulating while we were there, everything is in the right places, gyprock should start Wednesday, stairs booked in for 9th and we will be at lock up by end of next week all going to plan. Handover aim is end of November Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 1120Sep 01, 2015 12:17 pm Good news they will fixing/replacing the kitchen️ word of advise... Double check plans and colour schedule if it on there they have do it... Oh big mama ... I would be so annoyed.... Think of a happy place of unicorns and rainbows lol Looking good loks I have my pre-paint on site inspections on Friday Ask for references and speak to them. If they are defensive or try to avoid the request, walk. 1 75481 I would never build with Fowler homes. I built with them in 2021 and till date maintenance issues are pending.
