Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 763Sep 14, 2014 8:41 pm GC LOL, smaller house, another 10yrs it will be time to down size. Yes the tiler was good, I keep seeing different things he has done and think good job, noticed the bathroom tiles how he centred the main tiles and made the balance on the wall. Things I wouldn't have a clue about. Make sure you check for chips and cracks, we noticed 3 chips and 1 crack after handover, when we were sealing the grout. We have been told they will be fixed but to do it at maintenance so that any grout cracks can also be amended. Makes sense, so we'll see if it gets done. Feeling very much at home, even though still lots of boxes around, house is great. Love my kitchen & fireplace, kids love their rooms & media room. Now trying to finalise the pool and landscaping. Ahhh, can't wait until it is finished and I am lounging by the pool with my cocktail. Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 764Sep 15, 2014 7:58 am My sentiments the same Upsize! Relaxing by the pool...we'll be a few weeks away from that. I'm concerned we may have less than 50% of the required soft landscaping, but it will only save us money to use pebbles instead of stone pavers for paths. At last our B&D garage door is being installed on Tuesday! So the house will look complete. We had our shutters installed on the weekend and they look great! Still haven't had time to setup the Home Theatre though. Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 765Sep 18, 2014 6:10 pm Upsize & Mars - congrats on the move in! I've been out of town the last few weeks so came back today to see that things have been blazing along. Any doubts I had before about Kurmond and tardiness during the build have definitely been put to rest, it's going along fantastically now. - Painting has been done (although SS points out lots of touchup required) - Cabinetry and benchtops all installed - Electrical completed over the last few days - Exterior bricks all cleaned and moroka applied The issues so far though we've come upon: - Placement of powerpoints in the ensuite (in regards to regulations concerning the distance of power points and switches to the bath). - The wrong vanity was being installed in the downstairs WC and they'd cut away the stone top and the cupboard to make it fit which will need to be replaced by the looks of it - Painter didn't do the feature walls - Stone top wasn't flush properly with the kitchen island bench ends. Site SS shifted it himself though - looks like it wasn't glued down yet or properly. He's across it all though so don't think it'll be a problem. Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 767Sep 20, 2014 3:40 pm So exciting to see a few of you have moved in! Congratulations! Your houses all look great! Mckz, your kitchen is so shiny! I am thinking black and white too but black benchtop. Bazinga, I love the bathroom wall tiles. What colour are they? Also, it looks like you have window behind cooktop. I am very keen to see how your kitchen looks in the end! We have just signed our contracts and chosen our external colours. Lots of white/light colours on the walls, a gunmetal roof and manor red door/garage. Still a long way to go but it feels like things are moving again after some time just fiddling with the plans. Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 768Sep 23, 2014 9:44 am Morning Y'all, Congrats to the completions!! lucky you guys!! Im behind 2-3 weeks due to the rain and the backlog for driveways. I've been told this Thursday hopefully the rain holds off. Im currently at defects stage PC was on the 8th i think. like Upsize we too had our own private inspector which was good. All in all the defects found were all minor nothing major at all. So Kudos to KH for a great build. Quality is definitely there. Housesformouses im not exactly sure what our tiles were but Im sure awesome Rob from Manago tiles would be glad to assist. Yes we do have a window behind the cook top which is "splashbacked" so blinds person cant drill into glass - minor set-back. Very happy with the build and i cant control the weather but shall be handover soonish. now pics: We went with a black carpet in the HT and a lightish thru out. Love your tiles, they look similar to mine. Love the clean shiny look. Must admit though I am vacuuming everyday but I don't mind. Love a new house where house work isn't hard work. Wonder how long that feeling will last. Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 770Sep 23, 2014 6:59 pm Looks awesome Bazinga... Like the window that you have over your stairs...wishing we did something like that now! Question for anyone who has built with K and live in an Opticomm estate: Did kurmond or sentinel do the conduit run from the comms pit to the house? I've noticed that the hills home hub has been installed and there's a place for the fibre patch lead but hoping that the nbn prewire includes the conduit run in from the street (just been looking at Opticomm documentation this afternoon which points out we have to make sure our builder does this) http://www.opticomm.net.au/images/Docum ... 0Guide.pdf Definitely going to have to get a professional to do the practical completion inspection. So many things we could possibly miss. Only just spotted this on the weekend when having a close look at the edging on the kitchen cabinetry. Not good! We had a NBN issue where Sentinel had said yes to having the NBN equipment in the closet which i checked and was assured it was fibre from the Garage to the IT closet. Now thats only possible if it follows the NBN bend raduis' for the fibre if theres too much twists and turns you will need to run Cat cable from the garage to where you want the equipment. If is it a double storey and your gyprock is on its too late for hidden cabling. We just realised before the gyprock went on luckily and asked sentinel to run the 6 cables so all ports can be unsable. Also the NBN equip allows you to use 4 data ( individual services ) and 2 voice depending on your needs. Im not in an opticom area but im pretty sure they run the conduit wont hurt to double check though. DG85, love the entursisamm lol . We used windy beach (taubmans) for the internal paint. turned out very nice. I think its a warm grey ( sound like one of the block judges haha ) http://www.taubmans.com.au/ColourCentre ... indy-beach Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 773Sep 24, 2014 10:32 am mckz Looks awesome Bazinga... Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Kurmond should've run a conduit from the boundary to your garage. NBN techs will pull through the fibre from the pit to the garage where the PCD will be installed. However if they didn't, NBN will put the conduit in according to knowledge. Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 774Sep 25, 2014 5:39 pm Hi everyone We are at landscaping stage now and have come across some issues... 1) our Termguard wasn't installed correctly, guy coming tomorrow to fix up and make sure it goes around the perimeter properly, behind Downpipes and other things against wall. Also learnt that the Termguard needs to have sand over the top before any landscaping is done, is is not included. Additionally the termite protection done by kuromnd is only a temporary protection and we have to pay for the filling up of the Termguard. Not happy with this, not sure how much it will cost to fill in but I would have thought the item in the tender that states termite protection installed to the house would cover a full protection not a temporary protection. Mars any one else are you aware of this? 2) our AC is to low for our concrete to go around the house. When the slab for the AC is installed with the foundation it is done to the lower height not the garage height. When they concrete they like to concrete to the first row of bricks or half way. Making the AC unit sitting too low. Kurmond will not raise the unit to match so another expense on us. My concreter said he can look at it but again soe thing I would have thought a builder would think of pre build phase. Little things like is I rely on the builder as they know these things more than us. Anyone had these issues? Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 775Sep 26, 2014 8:30 am Upsize, I believe its around $500 for Termguard to inject the chemicals and this will last for 3 years. Each year you need to spend nearly $200 for a termite inspection. Even if Kurmond injected the chemicals, once you do landscaping, the soils are disturbed and the warranty is void unless you re-fill. So I think Kurmond are just saving money this way. I am NOT a fan of Termguard and will be looking to do my own chemicals or through an independent pest control. With the A/C slab, we will be putting pebbles/stepping stones next to it. Just make sure your concrete is 75mm below the weepholes. I am assuming the A/C slab is lower than that?
