Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 741Aug 22, 2014 5:54 pm Glad you finally have the key, yes I heard director was out of the country and couldn't meet up, nice thought he wants to be at each handover but don't know if it is really worth delaying meeting. When are you planning to move in? Have the appliances been installed? We have our final walk through with director on Monday at 1pm. Then I'm told we have to go into the office to do final handover. What is the time between walk through and handover? I'm told the meeting is to discuss appliance and install, plus final payment which they adjusted for less soil removal nice to keep a little. Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 742Aug 22, 2014 8:02 pm Hey Upsize, Exciting that you're getting so close!! We are moving in next Wednesday. It's all too hectic to really celebrate Maybe after we are in. We delayed appliances till after moving in as we should have our blinds and there is less chance of theft. We went into the office immediately after the walk through. And got credited for the soil, which is nice as you say. Got a question. If you have a internal garage access door, should you have a lock and deadlock? Ours doesn't. Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 743Aug 22, 2014 8:31 pm Gee that's quick, does that mean they expect us to go out afterwards and finalise everything??? Wow seems so fast at the end. We can't really move in next week, for heaps of reasons, both DH & are are really busy at work next week, too many meetings that can't be moved. , Removalist booked out on Friday anyway. I like the idea of moving on a Friday so we'll leave it until the week after. I'm trying to get my head around packing again, and how I'm going to have it all done. Last time I did it calmly in the holidays, this time it's going to be a juggle. Like you said too hectic to celebrate. We also want to seal our floor tile grout in the main area of will try doing that on the weekend after. Re our internal garage door, we have a lock on it, but no dead lock. Enjoy your busy week of packing! Phil starts your pool in a week? He needs to come and finish ours off. Are you getting his landscapers to finish your pool surrounds? I am currently getting quotes for landscaping. Let the next project begin. Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 744Aug 23, 2014 5:20 pm I think you're expected to finalise within 2 days of the walk through. The packing is much harder with 3 little ones. But since most our stuff is in boxes it's not too bad. I could never get onto Phil's landscaper so we are going with Instyle Landscape and Paving. Anyway if it continues to rain the pool may be delayed further. Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 745Aug 23, 2014 6:15 pm Hey Mars and Upsize, WOW, WOW, WOW I am really happy to see you guys at moving in stage. Your homes have both been built whilst our DA and CC has sat in council this whole time, which makes me happy to know the construction stage is pretty quick. We do have approval now but awaiting CC and the whole stormwater pit thing. Mars - we thought about the deadlock for internal garage access way back at the tender stage and paid for it as an extra. How is everyone else going? Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 747Aug 23, 2014 10:36 pm Upsize... I have asked KH about sealing the tile grout and am still waiting for a reply. I was hoping that it would be done by the tiler when the tiles are laid as part if the process? Are you doing it yourself or getting someone in to do it? Is it something that is easily done?? Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 748Aug 24, 2014 8:33 pm Mars yes packing with 3 kids is a nightmare! We started today the task, like you a lot of our stuff is still in boxes but it is amazing how much we have accumulate in just under 1.5 yrs. we taclked the biggest task today, kids toys! Then kids books! I'm exhausted today, thankfully we aren't planning the move until the week after next. I need time to pack and organise. All the best with your move Mars, which day are you doing it? I also haven't been able to get in contact with Tim, Phil gave me another landscaper he uses Troy. Meet him today, he seemed good, we are getting a quote from him and 2 others. I'm wondering when our pool will get finished now. Have to touch base with Phil once we have done handover. Ses we requested white grout, if you want that make sure you request it at the beginning as it isn't standard. Because it is white we are sealing it ourselves. I have google certified myself in the task. DH & I will seal it next weekend before the furniture goes in. Excited about tomorrow 1pm! Here we go. Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 749Aug 25, 2014 9:53 am Awesome news Upsize and Mars... Exciting times! We're at lockup now - so I'm now just left with peering through the windows now . Carpenter finishes up today (doors all hung, skirting boards and architraves in). The tiler started as well and the kitchen installer is scheduled for the end of the week. Feels like we're making good progress now... Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 750Aug 25, 2014 8:20 pm We had handover! We have keys. Still bits and pieces to do but all and all we are happy to be planning the final details to move. Mars, our internal door from the garage was changed from a lock door to a door handle with no lock!!!! Did not realise this. Bugger! Need to correct this one, quick smart. Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 751Aug 25, 2014 9:43 pm Congrats Upsize! With the garage door, I think we can get a locksmith to install a deadlock with the same key. I really think Kurmond should've given us the option to upgrade, since we didn't think about it. Blazing a should be handing over next and also mckz you're approaching in a little while. Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 752Aug 25, 2014 10:39 pm Congrats upsize! How exciting for you! Interesting about the garage door lock - I never thought about it and surprised they didn't try the upsell at colours! We'll have to get that changed as well... Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 753Aug 26, 2014 8:33 pm The silly thing with the garage door is we actually had a lockable handle on the door the whole lock up stage and it was only changed at the last minute to the standard one. No wonder I never noticed it. Apparently the reason it was lockable during build is because our garage had a roller door at the back and that is installed right at the end, so they did that internal door as a lockable lock for build phase. Would have been nice to know, and it really should be standard as a lockable door. We are calling our locksmith Axcess Locksmith (Mars local locksmith and I have found the good) to come over and install a deadlock and then get it keyed the same as our other locks. They have done this for me in the past and we'll do it again. Good point to add, we went round to our house and noticed some remaining issues on walking through again, also noticed a section of glass splash back missing, can't believe didn't notice previous, it is behind he microwave, spoke to T today and he said not to worry he'll meet DH at the block next week when our electrical are installed and fix ups few more things and organise the additional glass splash back. So, relieved T is still being awesome. Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 754Aug 26, 2014 9:29 pm Thanks for the locksmith details Upsize. I actually checked all my locks today and the laundry and external garage deadlocks didn't work! Another issue which needs to be fixed. One thing I haven't been happy with is the quality of gyprock work and subsequent paintwork in the main corridor. Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 755Aug 31, 2014 6:01 pm Hi everyone At what point do we meet our Site Supervisor??? We are waiting for letter of commencement from Bankwest and have been told to make sure our land is clear, does this mean we are close to starting? I want to be in the construction phase!!! sick of paperwork and waiting! Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 756Aug 31, 2014 6:42 pm Yea your close. I think we met our supervisor on site prior to piering as we had to be there when that happened. Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 757Sep 02, 2014 9:12 pm Howdy all Last week the wet areas were all tiled and all the kitchen and bathroom cabinetry was installed. This week the stone benchtops get measured up, carpenter is back to complete some items and the painter starts at the end of the week. Site supervisor estimates 6 weeks to finish it all off. Will be stoked if that's the case. Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 758Sep 02, 2014 9:19 pm Great mckz, the 6 wks will fly. We move in on Friday. All our electrical and lights are being installed today and tomorrow. Pool finalisation starts again tomorrow and fire place get finished next Tuesday. Busy times continue. Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 759Sep 05, 2014 10:44 pm We're in! It is great to be finally home. Very happy at the moment all the furniture is fitting perfectly as we planned. Now to start on the landscaping. Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 760Sep 12, 2014 8:29 pm Congrats Upsize. We are getting tiles done this week. Our tiler is amazing, not easy laying tiles, hats off to him, we are very happy, could not speak more highly of him! So far our experience has been a fairly positive one, don't get me wrong, there have been issues and tears (lots of tears) haha. But as we are getting closer to the finish line looking back, its been ok, nothing like some of the reviews on that product review site, everyone we have dealt with has been polite and helped us where possible. Would we do it again with Kurmond, yes definitely, maybe a smaller house next time round Ask for references and speak to them.
