Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 346Sep 03, 2013 8:11 pm G + C Hi All, I'm so glad there is a Kurmond thread on homeone, every other builder seems to have one, great way of sharing stories, ideas and progress. Lilac your house is amazing and I loved reading your thread and blog! I was also thinking of starting a blog but just can't find the time with 2 young kids. So we are also building with Kurmond, we had our external colour selections last week. The experience so far has been great! We have only really dealt with David and he is fantastic. Blackenator, Kurmond have great inclusions but ultimately it is up to you on how much you want to spend on upgrades etc... Keep in mind you will probably want to upgrade a few things. Also, your block of land, is it flat/sloped? You have to take into consideration site cost, soil removal and so on... Never leave your piggy bank empty at the package price, there will be more cost. Thanks G+C, I found the blog quite therapeutic and allowed me to remind myself that there is progress even when things seem slow... I have a 4yo (who was 2 when we started)... so I know about the time factor. It was easy at first but toward the end I found H1 and then found it hard to maintain both a blog and thread. I would just document via the thread - you still post the same but get valuable feedback at the same time. firsthome2 I am looking at building with Kurmond as well, but I need to design and build rather than using an existing footprint. Has any one done design build with them? I have a battle-axe block 20X26 with about 2M diagonal slope. Hi there Firsthome2, Ours was done by an architect. We couldn't find what we wanted from anywhere, always something to change so we designed our own got an architect to draw it up and provided the CAD files to Kurmond and they quoted off them. You can see through my blog and thread how they coped with it and quite well I say. Only thing is that as it was designed by us and we happened to have the plans sooooo long as it took us ages to find someone we could afford.. I had read and re-read the plans so much that by the time we started, I knew everything about the home, more so than our SS, you just need to ensure that you're on top of it, had I not been around a few times, we would have had some larger issues in terms of positioning and measurements - but in all they did a great job.. Still gets me how all the timber etc can arrive and fit all together, our tiler (used our own post handover) said it was one of the best main stream homes he had been in - in terms of wall alignment and being straight so that's saying something as he is a very high-end tiler... Good Luck! Great to walk through the Glenleigh and see what we are getting and what we definitely aren't getting. Had to have a giggle at how over the top show homes are. DH had a laugh about the open bath room window, he said he can fling some water at me to wake up. LOL. Also, love the water feature under stairs in Allure. Totally not practical but definitely memorable, what you want for a show home. Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 349Sep 08, 2013 12:04 am I was there too this morning, yes, looks fantastic. Always confuses me as to what is included in the diamond package and what they had added on top. I have signed up with them to do a custom design. The designs they have does not fit into my lot. Hope we can come up with a plan that fits the council/CDC requirement and my budget. 18/03/15 Deposit 02/09/15 CDC 22/09/15 Slab 05/12/15 Frames 15/12/15 Brick started. 11/04/16 Roof start 04/05/16 Roof finish 09/07/16 Gyprock. Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 350Sep 09, 2013 1:01 pm I was impressed with the homes also. Except the Ruby looked smaller than I'd expected. Lucky we picked the Sierra. Oh I hate the water features, because I can't allow my toddler to walk around. He goes straight for them!! LOL Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 351Sep 18, 2013 1:16 pm any one know what is the bronze, silver and gold upgrade will include, on top of their Diamond upgrade? what sort of price are we expecting to upgrade to this levels? 18/03/15 Deposit 02/09/15 CDC 22/09/15 Slab 05/12/15 Frames 15/12/15 Brick started. 11/04/16 Roof start 04/05/16 Roof finish 09/07/16 Gyprock. Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 352Sep 18, 2013 8:33 pm Firsthome, every different upgrade is a different cost. Had to put a cost to it generally. We have moved to the next stage. Signed contracts and paid deposit ahhh! Scary and exciting all wrapped up. Now we can officially move to internals. More decisions and costs to be careful off. Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 353Sep 19, 2013 10:53 am Upsize, Good to hear you're progressing. It's been 2 weeks since our internal appointment and we're still waiting for the majority of internal and electrical variations. I know its going to hurt! In the mean time I've been back to the displays to look more carefully (without the kids) and decided to get the largest skylight available. Yet more expenses! Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 354Sep 21, 2013 3:28 pm Another job done, picked our tiles for all bathrooms, laundry, WIP & living areas. Came out no variation costs. We are trying to minimise these as much as possible, their selections are great for bathrooms. It is all starting to take shape. Ready for next appointment now. Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 355Sep 27, 2013 3:53 pm Hi Everyone, sorry I have not posted for a while Congratulations Mars & UpsizeTime on all your progress Would love to see your selections etc. and anything else you want to share. As I have said before DON'T buy land that has a slope, any slope big or small, it is all a pain. We are still working out elevations and changing a few rooms around to make the house work better with the flow of the land. Hopefully we will be able to progress soon. Looking forward to reading peoples updates soon. Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 356Sep 27, 2013 4:05 pm We have given our requirements for the custom design last Tue week, impatiently waiting for the first cut of the design. Said will have it by this weekend, hopefully will have it soon. 18/03/15 Deposit 02/09/15 CDC 22/09/15 Slab 05/12/15 Frames 15/12/15 Brick started. 11/04/16 Roof start 04/05/16 Roof finish 09/07/16 Gyprock. Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 357Sep 27, 2013 4:17 pm Hi firsthome, understand the 'impatiently waiting' , we always seem to get emails etc. late on Friday afternoon so fingers crossed you will receive something very soon. Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 358Sep 28, 2013 7:10 pm Happy Weekend everyone, We are also doing the impatiently waiting thing. Our first plan came in way too big (almost 34 squares) from the original 31 square Sierra so it was back to the drawing board, literally, and now we await version 2. Just a question for all, please let me know where you guys have located your power points in your island bench (particularly with waterfall edge) and in your glass splashback. Many thanks Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 359Sep 30, 2013 11:03 am Hi Big Mama, I was also wondering the same thing, we are also having a waterfall egde island bench and I have been thinking about a good place to have the power point. Might go and have a look at few display homes to get an idea unless someone can suggest a good spot. Speaking of display homes I went and had a look at Kurmonds 3 new displays in Kellyville. We are building the Glenleigh, which was amazing, I particularly loved the wallpaper along side the stair case, the Allure colour scheme was also another winner for me (not too sure about the water feature). Surprisingly I fell in love with the Ruby! If we weren't building a 2 storey home I would definitely be building the Ruby. For a single storey home it was very, very, spacious and the layout was well thought out. Re: Building with Kurmond Homes 360Sep 30, 2013 5:33 pm Another Glenleigh, seems to be a popular one, but they all are so different. We have changed our kitchen to be a U Shape in the Glenleigh wit the sink under the window with a serving window to the alfresco. So, our power points will be on the wall near the sink. On the other side I was thinking the power points I might ask for them to be on the side walls of the kitchen so you don't see them along the back splash back. Think it will look sleeker. Regarding benches, have seen some nifty options for power points, one where it is reversible, when you flip it out pops the PowerPoint then flip it back and it is your bench again. Otherwise have seen them on the side of the waterfall, or in a drawer pop out. Lots of options all with varying costs, comes down $$$ We are now up to internals, picked carpets, tiles. Have booked sentential for next week. Electrician, stairs and then final internal meeting. Going in this week to pick up some samples to help us decide. So hard from the pictures. Good luck on your plans, make sure you get them 100% before you sign. It will cost you more later. Ask for references and speak to them. If they are defensive or try to avoid the request, walk. 1 74709 I would never build with Fowler homes. I built with them in 2021 and till date maintenance issues are pending.
