Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Anyone building with Homebuyers Centre in VICTORIA? 3468Jan 29, 2016 12:05 pm That sounds like it might be achievable we are so excited, we will be going on the weekend to talk to one of the sales people and go from there. so eager to get into our own house, loving hbc designs! Re: Anyone building with Homebuyers Centre in VICTORIA? 3470Jan 29, 2016 2:10 pm Just make sure that you ask questions! If you proceed, I recommend hiring a private building inspector. Many people have had smooth experiences building with Homebuyers but unfortunately we encountered quality issues within the early stages of our build hence making the decision to hire an inspector for peace of mind. We also required $3000 to initially secure our house and land package but ended up saving $35 000 which contributed to our deposit. Also bd aware of price protection periods if you land has not titled. We also had to pay upfront for all of the upgrades which was an additional $4 000. Re: Anyone building with Homebuyers Centre in VICTORIA? 3471Jan 29, 2016 6:16 pm Hi bugnada, That's great to hear! I'd love to see some photos if you're ever happy to share. I'm nervous about building something I haven't seen a display of and am constantly measuring and imagining rooms etc. Any advice you have would be very welcome too! Right now we are saving every cent we can to spend on a few upgrades. What happens at the colour selection meeting? We opted to pick their pre-set colour schemes from the red folder. I will PM you some photos of the build so far. We had not seen the jasper 17 on display either, so understand how you are feeling. It is a clever floor plan for a small block. It is cosy but great for a couple or small family. What colours choices have you selected for internal and external areas of the home? Prior to the meeting, carefully consider where you will require additional power points, lighting, water points for the fridge, gas line for back yard, etc in addition to the upgrades that you wish to select. It adds up quickly unfortunately, as items such as overhead cabinets in the kitchen and full wall tiling are extras. We also converted the kitchen pantry door to a cavity door to save on space and mojority of hinged cupboard to drawers. Looking back we also wish that we put in a rolling cavity door to separate the open living area to the hallway and bedrooms 2 and 3. Feel free to send me a PM with any questions and I'm more than happy to answer them. Congrats once again 😊 Re: Anyone building with Homebuyers Centre in VICTORIA? 3474Jan 30, 2016 10:45 am Zelda I know it'll take a few hours but the best thing I did before signing with HBC was read this entire thread from start to finish and write down all the prices quoted for the extras. Also look up the "things we forgot" thread on here as its a treasure trove of stuff we didn't even think to ask for. Re: Anyone building with Homebuyers Centre in VICTORIA? 3475Jan 30, 2016 11:01 am Well said Puglover. I did the same thing and it helped heaps! Been fabulous having this group Re: Anyone building with Homebuyers Centre in VICTORIA? 3476Jan 30, 2016 11:07 am We are so stuck on the colour scheme Bugnada. What have you chosen? I'm fairly sure we are going to do Marble for the outside, but then I go and look in the folder again and change my mind. It's a tough choice! Inside, well I am stumped. I like elements of three of them, so still figuring it out. I think your ideas of having a sliding cavity door to separate the living and bedrooms is a great idea. I might see what that will cost and if we can afford it, I think it should be way up on our list. Thank you for your PM's. I would definitely love to stay in touch. I took a practical approach to my colour schemes - what would be easiest to maintain from a cleaning perspective? That's why I went for a splash back instead of times, and darker floor tiles in the bathroom. We chose a fairly neutral palette so we could introduce more colour later Re: Anyone building with Homebuyers Centre in VICTORIA? 3478Jan 30, 2016 11:28 am We did the same thing with our color scheme puglover. So much easier for cleaning and things not showing up. Nice neutral palete. Our furniture looks great. Real warm feeling when you walk in Re: Anyone building with Homebuyers Centre in VICTORIA? 3479Jan 30, 2016 11:42 am That's all great advice Puglover and Mrssilverbeetle I think you're right. We have two children and I know oh so well what it is like to live in a house with light tiles.. I'm constantly cleaning. Despite it being a small house, I want it to feel warm and homely too. I havent, and i havent looked to much into it, but on face value its not the saviour its trying to make out to be. Shared equity in your home is never a good idea.
