Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 22, 2013 5:16 pm Hi All, We are about to officially sign up with Hickinbotham Homes, we were originally going to go with Fairmont. Anyway, to cut along story short - we had fallen in love with and already factored in the Laminex colour Echelon Redwood for our vanities and kitchen. We have now seen the Hickies selection catalog and to our dismay this selection isnt an option with them - at least in the book anyway! I've rung Laminex, the poor guy, I dont think he understood my question - so I cut my losses and rang Hickies direct to see what the Colour Consultants would say, I've left a message - so I will await an answer. But I thought i'd query on here if anyone has picked a laminex or formica colour that wasnt in the builders selection list? Was it just an upgrade? We certainly arent expectiing it as an inclusion - but were hoping it might just be an upgrade cost? Its a current Laminex colour, so I am hoping it wont be a big issue as I really want it. I just don't want to be limited to their selections list... Happy to use laminex, but want one that isn't on the list. I know when we went there were heaps more choices than what is in the book. Re: Selections Choices - Are you bound to what's in the book 5Apr 22, 2013 8:22 pm I am sure they wouldn't flat out say no to something not in a range and that they would just charge you for it ^^ as Davcar said when you go into the selections they have all 3 (bronze, silver and gold) sample boards for Laminex etc Siteworks 8/11 Slabbed 19/11 Our Thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65703 Re: Selections Choices - Are you bound to what's in the book 6Apr 22, 2013 8:51 pm That's what I'm hoping... We can't see why it would be an issue, but you just never know with these things! I'll hopefully get a call back tomorrow and find out for sure. I'm planning on visiting the selections centre on Friday (my RDO) so I can get an idea on some other stuff... Friends of ours build with Hickinbotham and they have a lovely house, but they did stick with a few basics (mostly from the book) and then did a few of their own things (for example, the tiling, etc). They let us have a look at the selection book when we were still deciding who to go with (we got 7 quotes - yes 7!!), and it did seem a little restricted. However, I'm sure you can still have the option to upgrade! We went to both Fairmonts and Hickies selection and kitchen centres, both seemed relatively the same; though I did feel that Direct Interiors had more upgrade options. I know Statesmen homes use Farquar kitchens, if that helps?? Maybe you can visit their showroom if they also do Hickinbotham? Good luck! I think its a matter of asking questions and dishing out the $$. I'm planning on visiting the selections centre on my day off this week and I dont live too far from Farquhar kitchens on Marion Road, so I'll do a nice loop and gather my info :- Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=66299 Slab: 16/6/14 Frame: 4/7/14 Roof: 22/7/14 Lock Up: 20/8/14 Fixing: 26/8/14 PCI: 9/10/14 Handover: 20/10/14 Re: Selections Choices - Are you bound to what's in the book 9Apr 23, 2013 10:43 am I was going to say if your going to go to farquhar make sure you go to the one on marion road because thats the one they actually deal with Siteworks 8/11 Slabbed 19/11 Our Thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65703 Re: Selections Choices - Are you bound to what's in the book 10Apr 23, 2013 10:45 am I'd heard that on the grapevine... Re: Selections Choices - Are you bound to what's in the book 18Apr 27, 2013 8:13 pm I didn't BUT I went to Farqhuar and its on their supply list, so I can get Hickies to cost it for me... It isn't one of theirs, but I can still get it. For a price. But, I really want it, so it's an extra I'm just going to have to pay for!! Any idea how much extra--I know it differs depending on the kitchen layout etc. but some idea would be good. (If I get a quote first, if you want, I'll let you know.)
