Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 20, 2013 11:20 pm Hi All, I just signed the tender and I have got the plans. On weekend I was going through the plans and noticed the driveway narrows down to 3.3m where it joins the footpath. I have got double garage with 5.5m distance to street.. It looks like the driveway is narrowing too much, if we park 2 cars in garage, is it going to be hard to take out the one close to the porch? Please suggest if I should get the driveway through third party so that I can get some extra concrete poured near the street end so it becomes easier to take cars in/out of garage. Anyone else came across the same problem? Thanks Singh Re: Driveway with builder or later 2Apr 21, 2013 6:26 am we had our driveway through the builder. the SS spoke to us as well as concretor and together we all mapped out were the driveway would go and extended it. paying concretor direct for extras. we have a triple garage . some builders are not as good as ours and will not let change unless variation fees etc are paid. i would check out the price the builder is quoting to expand the driveway and also go and get independent quotes as it may save you money in the long run. and you do not want patches in your driveway showing were you extended Re: Driveway with builder or later 3Apr 21, 2013 7:26 am I want to do over 100 sq.m of exposed aggregate pathing and driveway which most of it can't be done until I've completed some landscaping. Due to this plus builders put a 20%-30% markup on extra work I've opted not to have the builder not to do any of this. Also I want it all done a once so the concrete all matches not with different mixes. With reference to the driveway I too want it all double to the gutter from what I've researched it is possible but requires a council permit which they will approve if it doesn't impede on any utilities. Re: Driveway with builder or later 4Apr 21, 2013 8:23 am Widening a driveway from 3.3m is a good idea it really does make getting the cars in the garage easier One of the things to be aware of if there is a footpath and existing crossover is: The developer usually puts a thicker footpath in where the crossover is, but a thinner one elsewhere (to save money) If you widen the crossover and driveway you may have to have a section of footpath taken out as well and replaced. Re: Driveway with builder or later 5Apr 21, 2013 9:00 am Thanks all, I will check if I have to get the council permission to extend driveway near the footpath. As there is existing footpath and crossover from council. I did not know it gets little complicated with council permissions. Hi Mofflepop, I would recommend finding a building designer to prepare plans, they should design to your specified budget. The benefit is you can tender the project out… 9 20417 To my understanding early saw cuts are to control shrinkage cracks, so doing them now would be pointless.
