Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 20, 2013 8:48 pm Hi all, We decided to jump in the deep end with a sloping block. It slopes down from the road. As first time builders, we would welcome anyone's opinions on what we have so far: Here is a pic of our block. It has a building pad built up slightly into the side of the hill that is about 700m2, (but the block size is about half an acre) has a South East Aspect and some nice breezes: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Anyway, we have settled on a builder and now have some working drawings of our new home! We are waiting on the builder to add some stairs off the rear of the alfresco (which will be decking, not tiles) as well as a few minor tweaks such as newport cladding to the rear of the house. They said the 1:5 driveway gradient is the maximum allowed for council regs, but it is difficult to picture how sloping this is! Is this really bad?? I like my cars (hence the 3rd garage) and would really REALLY hate to have them scrape! Will this be a problem? Has anyone else built with a similar gradient and how bad is it??? Re: 1st build- downward slope. Prelim plans- opinions please 3Apr 20, 2013 9:34 pm Gorgeous outlook, love it! The first thing I think of is making the most of that view, and I'd want my ensuite (especially since you have a lovely bath with a window) look in that direction. How it is now, it will be looking toward the road, yes? I just think it would be nicer looking the other direction Can you change the SGD in the laundry to just a normal door? We have a SGD in the laundry and it's just a bit of a pain not being able to have a bench/laundry tub/washing machine right up to that wall. Love all the storage cupboards though. That's all I can think of for now! 1st build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=59376 *New*-2nd build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70324&p=1154282#p1154282 Re: 1st build- downward slope. Prelim plans- opinions please 4Apr 21, 2013 8:01 am we have an old hr holden and were also worried about scrapping the builder and SS knowing this when they first scrapped the land thought the garages where still to steep to drive into so dropped the levels still have a reasonable driveway but much better. i have lots of pics of how the house looks etc on building thread. we have views as well so have positioned the house as such could you extend alfresco around to meet master bedroom and have sliding door out. also extend the alfresco to beginning of wall bed2 Re: 1st build- downward slope. Prelim plans- opinions please 5Apr 21, 2013 3:26 pm Hi Stella- probably going to be a bit hard to move the ensuite around. We originally wanted to have the master at the back of the house, but ended up with this as a compromise, the view from the master bedroom probably isn't that great anyway as there is bush that blocks alot of the view. The main bathroom will have a big window looking out over the view so that should be ok. Will have to look at the glass laundry door as you are right it wastes a bit of space and now that I think about it i'm not sure I want a glass external door for security reasons. Hi rocky- had a look at your build thread, love your house, pool and views! I see what you mean about your driveway, ours will probably be a similar angle but down from the road, do you have any problems scraping with your cars? Also noticed you have a triple garage too, what dimensions did you go for? At the moment ours will be about 9.5m x 6m in total. In other news went shopping today and got a Bosch pyrolytic oven, induction cooktop and undermount sink + mixer tap at clearance sale . Re: 1st build- downward slope. Prelim plans- opinions please 6Apr 21, 2013 3:45 pm thanks konrad our garage is similar size to yours at 9.5m x6m and height is about 12 foot to ceilings at moment have not had the cars drive up but only car would need to worry about is the hr. that is great to be able to get the oven etc at clearance price.
