Hi All,
Was wondering if anyone can help or shed some light onto this solution?

Above is the floorplan of said internal bathroom issue. I have tried to talk to my SS/Builder but they flatly refuse to put in a duct that will duct from the shower to the external vent. I am worried that the blue area will trap steam/heat/moisture that will in the medium to long term rot the smart joists between the floors. He says that the external vent (about the size of 2 bricks) will provide enough of a path to allow the dissipate outside - I'm not convinced at all and even showed him the BCA code which *does* state that they need a duct in there as a passage for the air to get out easily.
I don't think I'm going to get very far with him or the builder and I've basically given up on trying...as it is about the third time I've tried to convince them via emails/on site meetings etc.
So, my next option is to install it myself or with a plumber. Right above it is a bedroom with relatively easy access and no obstruction (i.e. no T lintels or steel beams) and as we didn't get the builder to do the flooring upstairs there is just a layer of MDF at the moment before we move in. I can remove this myself, ask the plumber to put in a duct and put the MDF back in once complete.
My question is:
1. Do I really need a duct for the air to flow out to the vent???
2. Would the above work if so?
Thanks.
Regards,
Judder.
