Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 15, 2013 2:14 pm Anyone here got a clue about Telstra fees? I have spent 30 mins on phone being pushed frompillar topost one says do a dummy account to find out cost then another says no cant do that and need to do credit check... ALL i want to know is this:- Our builder put a draw wire in the house from the front of the house (wire sticking out of wall) to a telephone point inside the house (also wire sticking out of the wall) How much will it cost to put in the proper communication wire and a little grey box and connect it to underground service on verge? Our current house has a grey box and phone point but we have NEVER connected to Telstra (never had home phone or internet...use skype and mobile) We built this house but i cant find the information on this, and i am almost sure i didnt pay $299 for the privilege of NOT having a home phone... Does anyone know if i can get this done by an Telstra approved technician electrician or do i have to use Telstra!? to get rid of the unsightly wires and then later decide on connection. Telstra costs for connection after builders pre-wi 2Apr 15, 2013 8:17 pm Hi Oneness, The wiring that you're talking about was made by the builder. He lays this prewiring to make it easier for Telstra to connect. Now, with regards to the $299 that you pay to initially connect, this is billed to you & you get this if you organise with them to get a landline & is included in your first bill. I know this because my house was completed last year. So, if you don't have a landline, or internet, then you pretty much DID NOT pay $299. Don't go out & get an electrician to do what you want. Contact Telstra first by email & explain your situation & get them to advise you what course of action you need to take. That way, you're in the safe side....I hope this helps. Re: HELP! Telstra costs for connection after builders pre-wi 3Apr 23, 2013 9:19 pm I have finally found out from a very helpful lay person that Telstra can do a pre-provisioning for a future connection which is exactly what i have been trying to find out...no cost whatsoever...So the other idiots at Telstra had NFI what they were talking about...but yay finally got there in the end...
