Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 15, 2013 1:52 am Hi everyone - do you think the powder room is too close to the dining area? Any ideas on how we can deal with this? I was thinking of having an automatic closing door for the powder room to make sure it is kept shut at all times, but not really sure how to deal with sound issues, or guests being able to see the powder room when sitting at the table... Here is our plan: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Any ideas would be much appreciated! Re: HELP! Toilet too close to dining? 2Apr 15, 2013 2:40 am Distance looks fine, go a solid core door. I think better there than traipsing through the house. cheers Re: HELP! Toilet too close to dining? 3Apr 15, 2013 6:28 am I don't think it's too close. Looks good! Feel free to follow our build! viewtopic.php?f=31&t=59958 Re: HELP! Toilet too close to dining? 4Apr 15, 2013 6:38 am also do not think it is too close looks good Re: HELP! Toilet too close to dining? 5Apr 15, 2013 7:45 am I don't think its too close but put a exhaust fan in so no smells make there way too dinning area if your worried about that. Re: HELP! Toilet too close to dining? 6Apr 15, 2013 8:05 am Maybe a cavity slider hidden behind broom cupboard that can be used to close off area when seated at the table? Left open if you are only in the house....to access laundry easily etc. Re: HELP! Toilet too close to dining? 7Apr 15, 2013 9:53 am I agree with Kiwi. I don't think it is too close distance wise but I would consider a sliding door to block off the entire area when dining. Re: HELP! Toilet too close to dining? 8Apr 15, 2013 11:21 am If you don't want to see a door frame, have a floor to ceiling cavity slider, so you don't notice anything...just the art or the mirror that would look good on the wall between the pwdr and the laundry, It looks like a wall...might be a window.? If a wall..make a niche with a nice light above. Takes your mind off the wafting stench coming from the loo if the door is open!! We have a 2.4 high cavity down our hall. Tucks right away, don't know it is there. Re: HELP! Toilet too close to dining? 9Apr 15, 2013 2:20 pm It's a funny space you've got there, however I would be hesitant to close it off with a cavity slider, mainly because both the laundry and powder both have doors on them already. I definitely don't think it is too close to the dining area (quite convenient actually). As Kiwi has mentioned, I think you could jazz that hallway thingy up with a niche/art/mirror. If there was a bit more space an end table with a nice vase of fresh flowers would be good too. Should not be an issue as long as you keep the toilet door closed, plenty of ventiliation and some nice airfreshner constantly stocked. Re: HELP! AussieMark Distance looks fine, go a solid core door. I think better there than traipsing through the house. What does this mean? Are standard doors generally supplied by builders not "solid core". OP I also think the position of the powder room is fine. Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65085 Re: HELP! Toilet too close to dining? 11Apr 15, 2013 3:15 pm Of course, A little rough, but from one side and shut from the other. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ ( and a solid door is usually not standard with a build, you have to ask) Sorry, rubbish pics, but we have a 2.4 stud and you can order them that size for about $1000 but sooo worth it. I hate closing off the hall with a door divider above a door frame, ...this way , you don't notice it really... Re: HELP! Toilet too close to dining? 12Apr 15, 2013 3:20 pm Re: HELP! Toilet too close to dining? 13Apr 15, 2013 5:03 pm Our powder room is close to dining too. Never even thought about it TBH as the door will always be closed (I have small kids) and there's exhaust fan that comes on with the light anyways Re: HELP! Toilet too close to dining? 14Apr 15, 2013 7:07 pm Thank you everyone for your replies! I feel a lot better about the plan now because I don't think we are able to change it. I think we might go with a solid door (didn't even know that was possible before). The cavity slider is a pretty neat solution too, and I love the niche idea! Thanks kiwi for the pictures - it really helps to visualise the hallway space Re: HELP! Toilet too close to dining? 16Apr 16, 2013 10:30 am h0me0wner Thank you everyone for your replies!
