Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 23, 2012 9:52 pm I've been holding off starting my own thread until we were far enough along the track to have something to say, but we're getting closer to things being a reality so I thought I should start putting a thread together! My family and I (DW and girls 11 and 9) moved from Canberra to Melbourne in Dec 2010. We sold a house in Canberra and decided to rent here and build - having done two "fixer uppers" we don't really have another one in us. The aim is not to have the "dream home" but to have a functional home that will be good for teenagers / uni students etc. We deposited / exchanged on a block of land at the Pasadena Estate in Clyde in Jan 2011. It's a 576m2 18m x 32m block at the back of the estate near a golf course that will be built in due course. It was meant to settle in Jan 2012 but the date for titles has kept being pushed back - now we are told Sept / Oct but obviously Sept is nearly done - but it is just waiting for certification so we can almost smell it! We are building the Ascot 35 with Carlisle Homes. We've been utterly delighted with Carlisle through the entire process so far. The standard plan for this is: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We have only made a few changes, which are: * swap the sliding door robes / weird bedhead in the Master for a lovely WIR which will be on the right as you enter. It includes a full fit out with drawers and a range of rails at different levels plus an upper shelf all the way around the WIR * add sliding doors to the ensuite, activity and rumpus to be able to close off spaces I will put together a post with colour selections etc. We just got our full formal approval for finance so all is on track. We were really sweating the valuation because we kept hearing stories of people coming in 30/40K under in our estate, but we got 100% - yay! Looking forward to getting to know you all and sharing the journey!! I think it will work perfectly for your family, we have two girls ourselves. I too was worried about the valuation but I worried for nothing as we had no issues whatsoever. Look forward to following your build and hope everything goes well for you. Re: Building the Ascot 35 with Carlisle Homes 3Sep 24, 2012 9:15 pm Thanks Tash! And just exactly when are we going to see your plans?? My house is so much smaller than all the ones I see on here, but then, my fiance works away so most of the time it's just me and my cat, and we don't take up much room! haha. I can definitely see a lot of similar aspects between your's and Tash's. I guess major differences is that your master is at the front, and she has a outside living area where your rumpus is. Hopefully you will settle and have title soon. Any pics of colours yet? I specially love your splashback - I'm all for anything *bling*! And that carpet looks so soft and comfy! Love your facade also, it's quite similar to ours except we have a single 1200mm door. 1st build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=59376 *New*-2nd build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70324&p=1154282#p1154282 Re: Building the Ascot 35 with Carlisle Homes - SELECTIONS A 17Sep 28, 2012 11:58 am We went through stacks of display homes to get ideas and really loved the Linen ceasarstone bench in one of Carlisle's kitchens. We probably would have gone with a lighter color for the perspex doors but the CC drew us to the darker and we are happy with it - she helped us be a little less conservative which was good as we always tend to do everything pretty neutral. Obviously hard to visualise until it becomes a reality but I think we'll be happy with it. I'm trying to work out how to scan plans to show external and internal elevations. Thanks! The carpet is standard - our package with the builder included an upgrade to the top like underlay but we went with a standard carpet as we liked the colour and also we have two kids, two small dogs and two cats, so we didn't think it was worth going nuts with a carpet upgrade as it would just end in tears lol. Our main priority with the carpet was to get one that was cut and not hooped, as we have a hooped carpet in the place we are renting and the kitty cats love pulling on it. We only had five choices for our carpet (one of the things we had to reduce a selection of for the valuers, grrr) and I really don't like ours that much, just looks cheap. But yours looks fantastic, and lucky you having upraded underlay! Can make a world of difference! I am seriously in love with that Caesarstone Linen. Beautiful. I'm lucky in that my kitty/fur baby isn't much of a scratcher - he is an indoor(at night)/outdoor cat and seems to do most of his scratching outside or on his 170cm scratching pole! Never had a problem with carpet our lounges...yet! 1st build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=59376 *New*-2nd build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70324&p=1154282#p1154282 Re: Building the Ascot 35 with Carlisle Homes - SELECTIONS A 20Sep 28, 2012 1:00 pm I posted on your facade but it's gone. Anyway it was just to say that I loved your facade, it's very classic and timeless. All your colours go so well together and I particularly like the floorboard colour and your grey kitchen splashback. Nice that you had a helpful colour consultant, makes it so much easier. I think my colour consultant got it too easy with us, just white, white and more white. Hello, Whats peoples current experience building with Carlisle, specifically in SouthEast Melbourne?
