Browse Forums Building A New House Re: RedInk, Baldivis - Moved In, finishing off - Pics 1201Apr 17, 2014 3:01 am Hi Charlie. Just read this from start to finish in one go. I'm building soon so I've been trawling through these stories for ideas. In your WIP, is the shelf with the coffee machine on it just a shelf, or is it a benchtop? I'm pretty keen to do a similar thing and was thinking the cost of using a benchtop may have been prohibitive. How has the karndean held up after 4 months? Is it easy to keep clean? Congrats on the build btw, it looks great. You must be rapt. I would think that a laminate benchtop would be better priced than Essastone BUT I am sure that if you sweet talked the Sales Rep they might "throw it in" !!! LOL wouldn't hurt to try. I am loving the Karndean planks, they are easy to keep clean but they do show up hair / fluff when the sun shines through the back doors! LOL If we EVER build again I would put them in again. With a 5.5 & 7.5 yr old in the house they haven't been scratched or damaged at all yet *fingers crossed* PanRaptor Hey Charlie, I think your place looks great, inside and out. I love watching builds turn into homes, its definitely the most exciting stage. charlie23 some days I just want to sell up & start over Well I hope you don't follow through with that because you've obviously put in a lot of effort to make your home beautiful Thanks Pan I don't think I will move anytime soon (although neighbour from hell just keeps getting better & better atm) I have found quite a few things that I wish we had picked up / been told about. **** Just a note for anyone who has a kids activity room that has double doors, DON"T get your ducted AC return vent placed behind the double doors. Because if you are running the AC / heating you CAN"T close the doors to keep the noise levels from your kids down, if you do close the doors you end up with a whistling wind tunnel under the doors :S momomo I'm so with you on the streetlight thing, it's the same for us - great idea with the roller blind! House is looking really good and very finished off now xxxx Thanks momomo, how's it all going at your place? Mandy67 Microwave looks so good doesn't it?! And what a difference having the paving down the side makes. It sure does make the kitchen feel complete now. I am loving the paving, only the wahsing line side is finished but it has made the biggest difference! By the way I PM'd you about the induction cooktop. And I'm also wondering who did your window tinting and how happy with it you are? We've got a big bedroom window at the front that's also west facing so we're thinking it will help with heat issues, as well as privacy. Thanks. Re: RedInk, Baldivis - Moved In, finishing off - Pics 1206Apr 28, 2014 6:09 pm Hi Charlie, Your place looks amazing! You should be so proud Quick question - how are you finding your quatro tapware (especially the shower mixer)? We are upgrading to quatro...hopefully the upgrade isn't too $$$ (prestart is on the 13th). In regards to the query about window tinting, we used a Brisbane based company called Tintplus. They have the best website with lots of technical info on their films and also a great article on how to choose the best film for the job. Which made it really easy to choose - we put the Smart Films HP 15 on our western bedroom window because it blocks the most heat and the Smart Films Ambiance 25 for the family room, kitchen and lounge because it blocks heat and gives privacy but doesn't make the room feel dark. The company also has an online job costing program which calculates the film cost and the installation charge - and because you measure your own windows they give you a 15% "sales commission" discount. It was the lowest quote we had received, but we were a bit concerned about dealing with a company on the other side of the country. But the price was so good for an energy rated film that we decided to place an order for just the window in the bedroom. Well, within a few days the film was delivered to our home and cut to 20mm larger than our window panes "ready for installation". The day before the film arrived the film installer (they have two in Perth) called to schedule the installation. It was all so easy - much better than having to take time off work and then wait for a sales rep. We placed an order for the other windows a few days later. Very happy. Jen Re: RedInk, Baldivis - Moved In, finishing off - Pics 1209May 08, 2014 7:15 pm Hi Charlie, catch up time for last few few pages. I like your built in microwave, looks great now. Good idea about the blind over front door, I always wondered how that would look. Ours is the clear glass version and I ended up putting a block out black curtain across it much to DH's distress cause he wanted what you did. I have a question for you too Charlie. How's the floor? This was the colour and product I was originally going for. Are you happy? Building Standards; Getting It Right! Don't think they are designed for double brick. WA has a particular way of building and unfortunately that's the way a large amount of sills are finished. 3 4730 Joe, it depends on your certifier but we are noticing the ones we deal with are really cracking down. So i would recommend you follow your approved landscaping plans to… 4 6778 Hi Simeon, Thank you for laying it down for us. Makes sense. Appreciate it very much. Have a nice day. Cheers 2 5189 |
