Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 11, 2013 9:59 pm Hi guys do townhouses normally have one electricity metre box? I came across a construction site in melbourne eastern suburb, they are building 3 townhouses on one land, and every townhouse has a gas metre and water metre at the front or side. but i do not see any electricity metre box. I drove across another site the other day and saw a electricity metre fixed on the side fence on the side of the common driveway. So does that mean all townhouses share one single eletricity metre box? do each occupants share the electricity service charge? but pays for individual usage charge? or do all occupants pay for both supply and usage?, then what is the point of having only one eletricity metre box instead of separate ones for convenience sack (in case the power is off and you need to check, etc) Thanks Re: townhouses share one single eletricity metre box??? 2Apr 11, 2013 10:30 pm From what I understand if the houses remain on one title then there can only be one energy meter. They can have private meters though which divides up the electricity. Someone else may know more than me about it Modified Fernside 38 Rawson Homes Blog: http://www.thehousethatmatandjenbuilt.blogspot.com Build Thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=60501 Re: townhouses share one single eletricity metre box??? 3May 27, 2013 7:39 pm Hi, This is a few months after the fact, though each townhouse would need their own meter. It would be so impractical otherwise. How could you separate them if you were to rent or sell them individually? Iv lived in a few unit development sites & it is common that there is multiple meters in the 1 central box. Must be easier to check, relating to the 'old' pre digital smart metres. The building sites Iv worked on do commonly have 'temporary' placed metre boxs also multiple occ properties are always billed by trades at a premium, rarely per sqm for the lot.
