Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 11, 2013 8:45 pm Hi All, We are about to sign the contract with Metrcon for our first home in Melbourne South East. The experience with Metrcon has been good so far, but wanted to know if anyone has build their home with them? Are they a good builder to go with? Regards, Haroon Re: Is Metrcon a good choice compared to Poter Davis/Simonds 2Apr 12, 2013 1:19 pm Not gonna lie to you - I'm building with Metr. right now and the only times during the process I can say I've been happy is during the early parts of the sales, and the first seven weeks of construction. Everything outside those time blocks has made me wish I build with BBank. The house was claimed to Fixing at the end of December; Since then I've had a period of about five weeks where I only had one call from the SS, and otherwise I had to call him; and also they've been doing QA for at least the last four weeks also, maybe longer. Even now, they can not tell me when they will be able to tell me when they'll know the handover or PCI dates, which has been the worst part - that they can't or won't give me any kind of timelines I can work with. To confirm what I mean - right now I don't want to know what the handover date will be - right now I want to know on what date they'll be able to tell me what date the handover will be (but a PCI date would certainly be better)! I don't care if it's six weeks away - I just need to be able to sort my stuff out. Building a Delta 21 at Craigieburn - http://homeofzero.blogspot.com.au/ Deposit: 26/02. Contract: 22/05. I think it is pretty standard practice as they don't want to mislead and not deliver on time. Are they well within the building duration? Cheers Re: Is Metrcon a good choice compared to Poter Davis/Simonds 4Apr 12, 2013 4:35 pm We are progressing with Big M in Berwick Melbourne. So far I got estimates of similar sort of plan from Carlisle and PDH. I was happy with estimates and pre-work by Sales Consultant of Big M. I think these things really does not matter. As these Sales Consultant keep jumping from one Big name to another like our Carlisle one had come from Big M and Big M one had come from Simonds. Generally I found Big M's process a lil slow. We had 3-4 meetings with Sales Consultant. Then it went to Building Co-ordinator. I had to call Building Co-ordinator and she told us 2-3 weeks for technical review. She called me to update how is it going. And called me in 3rd week to fix up selections appointment and preliminary contract appt. Strange thing was she said selections will not be reflected on contract Dunno, people sound alright though! Glossy-brochure and sales guy claims wise? Nope. Building a Delta 21 at Craigieburn - http://homeofzero.blogspot.com.au/ Deposit: 26/02. Contract: 22/05. Settlement: 29/05. Site start: 18/10. Re: Is Metrcon a good choice compared to Poter Davis/Simonds 6Apr 15, 2013 5:24 pm We built with M, in SE suburbs of Melbourne. The admin stage was a PITA, but once we went to site, we had an excellent supervisor. He really looked after us and even gave us his mobile number which we called when we needed to speak to him. Quality of build was great, and things were fixed without hassle. Things did go wrong, as things do when you build as there are a lot of trades involved, but we always had a good response from our supervisor and they were fixed. Been in 12 months now - very happy. Re: Is Metrcon a good choice compared to Poter Davis/Simonds 7May 23, 2013 1:45 pm Thanks everyone, I feel it's a matter of luck if your building process goes well without any fuss. The truth is every builder has issues one way or the way. You just have to hope you end up getting a good supervisor/trades etc. Haroon Three options 1 Ask the liquidator 2 Find another PD customer and ask the source of their report 3 Pay for new report 3 12335 9 24789 Thank you.
