Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 10, 2013 9:38 pm Hello - does anyone know if we are allowed to have the 'Smart Meter' in an enclosed garage? (or does it need to be easily accessible from outside the home?) Re: Location of Smart Meter 2Apr 10, 2013 9:42 pm I am in Western Australia if that makes a difference. Re: Location of Smart Meter 3Apr 10, 2013 10:16 pm Not unless you plan on giving synergy meter readers access to your garage every 3 months! Our meter box is outside, locked and has a clear viewing window so they can't open it up but can still read the meter Re: Location of Smart Meter 4Apr 11, 2013 3:19 pm Thank you Twiggens - I spoke to Western Power today and you're 100% correct. They need to have access to the meter at all times, whether it is a smart meter or not. Re: Location of Smart Meter 5Apr 11, 2013 8:58 pm No worries. I used to contract to western power, our tradies had keys to gates etc that have special western power locks on them. Re: Location of Smart Meter 6Apr 11, 2013 9:29 pm I'm now looking at the implications of having a little brick wall built and mounting the meter on that (I've seen a house that has it in my neighbourhood) - will need to check with the solar panel peeps to see if there will be problems with the invertor when we get solar. Re: Location of Smart Meter 7Apr 12, 2013 9:06 am If you put the distribution board (with all your circuit breakers etc) inside the garage you can still have the meter outside, locked and secure. The solar guys will then connect their equipment up to the distribution board. Re: Location of Smart Meter 8Apr 12, 2013 8:51 pm THANK YOU Twiggens! Very veyr helpful - much appreciated. Re: Location of Smart Meter 10Jan 28, 2014 9:31 pm That is what we ended up doing - we have had the builder put the meter on a pole at the front of the property and we will later either build a brick wall around it or have it mounted on to the brick wall (similar to how many rural properties are in WA)... the distribution board will be inside the garage. I am happier with this as due to the size of our block and layout of our house, the only alternative was to have the meter box mounted on our bedroom wall.... and I didn't want to be sleeping near all those wires. We already paid for somfy motors for the blinds. The quote above was purely for “pre-wiring” so the blinds company can install the motors and blinds. That’s why we… 5 16263 Shelly switches require a paid subscription for full access to all features which is ridiulous given the lifespan of a home and if you were to sell it or buy a home with… 2 2544 |
