Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Building in Aston Craigieburn 268Aug 21, 2013 10:56 am Are you serious?? That's a bit odd. Although it probably happens all the time especially when its the same builder (and probably the same framer). He probably ran out as it's higher than it should be lol. Done deal, next piece of timber is on us! Re: Building in Aston Craigieburn 270Aug 21, 2013 11:20 am TraceyK Hey Sam, I spotted a port-a-loo in your street (near the corner) so I'm guessing it's yours. It is a bit weird that they only discovered the need for a retaining wall now. They aren't that bad, now you will have your own leaner or garden bed, or both We got a call from the BC saying that the framer made a mistake and set the ceiling 2 centimetres higher than the plan and are we ok with that... umm will we have to pay for it (no), does it cause any other problems (no).. then we are fine with it! Ooooh that's made my day. Our block number is 829, can't wait for the weekend will ask mum to head out as well. Nice score on the ceiling height! Are any of you using an independent inspector? And if so whom. I'm wanting to but my partner thinks its not needed. Not needed until a mistake is made I keep telling him! Re: Building in Aston Craigieburn 271Aug 21, 2013 11:23 am Hey Sam... good news on the tradies' reading room landing on your block !! As for an inspector? We seriously considered it. That being said the builder inspects at each stage and I believe the bank has to inspect it at completion too. So I guess it's two sets of (albeit misguided) eyes. So we are a little undecided about one now. Re: Building in Aston Craigieburn 272Aug 21, 2013 11:28 am Good point AB!! Will just have to see........ Re: Building in Aston Craigieburn 274Aug 21, 2013 2:28 pm Never say no to a group discount lol. It's not like the houses are far from one another. Have you thought about fencing or who you are going to her that done through? So many things running through my head only 8 weeks to sell a house and pack up out lives. At least I have a job Re: Building in Aston Craigieburn 275Aug 21, 2013 2:43 pm Haha an inspection "bulk buy" .. not as silly as it sounds. Fencing? No idea at all ATM Sam. I reckon there'd have to be a reliable company doing Aston because we all have to have a regulation grey colourbond fence. Wish we had somebody posting from one of the earlier releases. You're lucky you can transfer your job. Must be a good company?? We sold our house around this time last year so I can offer some empathy there... After 18 years in one place the biggest hurdle was the amount of skips I had to hire. You hoard so much Re: Building in Aston Craigieburn 276Aug 21, 2013 3:38 pm i wonder how much the fencing is per meter.. anyone have any ideas? Re: Building in Aston Craigieburn 277Aug 21, 2013 5:11 pm No idea about per metre charge, I do remember reading on a greenvale estate thread they had the contact of some guy that was supposedly reliable. Might be worth giving him a buzz. We are also in the process of getting prices on decking for our alfresco area, we looking at the fake timber decking NO MAINTENANCE exciting, the company also does the grass look alike turf which we hoping to get in our backyard too. I love getting an idea on prices. Had a removalist come and give me a quote for moving to Melbourne $7000 Re: Building in Aston Craigieburn 278Aug 21, 2013 5:15 pm My opinion on inspection is that it will be worth it. My gf works for body corp company and her boss deals with that kind of stuff and has done it before so he said he will be happy to do it for us or get someone he knows to do it for free when we want it. But the way I see it if I had to pay for it I would still do it as I know bank and builder checks and there is the warranty but at the end of the day its just another thing to worry about and considering that everyone is spending well over 400k on a house $500-$700 (rough prices I have seen) inspection is peanuts to pay considering the money ur putting in. I had a look online a while ago about it and most company's will do a report with photos as proof which is good but from what I have hard there is a lot of doggy inspectors too so its hit and miss lol. Also I looked at fencing company and came across this one if anyone wants instant quote online as it has the calculator on the site. http://www.bigredsfencing.com.au/instant-quote hope it helps Wish I was building now to get into this bulk buy with you guys lol but I guess I still get all the info from your builds so bonus for me there:) Re: Building in Aston Craigieburn 279Aug 21, 2013 5:20 pm Sambogirl81 No idea about per metre charge, I do remember reading on a greenvale estate thread they had the contact of some guy that was supposedly reliable. Might be different as hers went on a ship but I am guessing they would use rail here for you. Thanks for that hsv2ko we have thought about it, we live in an elevated home so moving is difficult at the best if times. I have emailed off to get a quote for a containership. We will just have to wait and see if we have the time also ..... So much to think about I do enjoy the drama:-D In his latest two videos he has started bringing security guards to site, I am waiting for the punch on to begin lol 6 46259 Hey guys building a new place through a volume builder and just wondering if i should complain to the site supervisor as we just had plasterboard installed.
