Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Building with Ideal Homes in Baldivis WA 41Aug 08, 2013 5:15 pm TJ, yeah once your at lock up you just have to look through the windows however we've been really lucky that our tradies are working saturday mornings so the house has been open so we can have a look! unfortunately the prestart lady from hell strikes again and even though i physically saw her take the soap dishes off the plans (because we wanted to install glass ones later) and when my partner visited the house yesterday during his lunch break, you guess it, the soap dishes were already installed. they also are having a really hard time reading the plans, must have the apprentice doing it because the shower hobs are supposed to be feature tiles and they aren't, and the skirting in the laundry is floor tile colour (carbon) instead of wall tile colour (white) and it clearly states the colours in the sheet that they even had! so not too impressed. i'm at that stage where im weighing up if it makes that big of a difference or not. also, because they under-ordered roof tiles, our house was missing 4 tiles the whole time in this rain with painted ceilings installed, so yep, with all this rain it was disappointing to see the huge water damage done to the ceiling in the theatre. here are some photos! If the soap dishes aren't on the plans it's one thing I would push, we took our out. They are such an issue if they ever get chipped. The other tile issues you need to decide will it be something that bugs you? Re: Building with Ideal Homes in Baldivis WA 43Aug 08, 2013 9:59 pm Having soap holders removed will be easy if they quick enough before the grout. Hate it when people just make up what they are doing or what they think looks best Re: Building with Ideal Homes in Baldivis WA 44Aug 09, 2013 9:49 am Not good Aston ...especially the roof!! Seriously how hard is it to go get a few more tiles and whack them on...or they could have at least put a tarp over the area so there was less water getting in...talk about incompetent. I would be peeved Yes if they can get the soap holder out before the grouting, that will make it easier!! Geez do having plans matter.....makes me wonder!! See def pays to visit your house all the time. We had a few stuff ups like that too, but they were easily fixed....doesn't take away the annoyance factor though!! Re: Building with Ideal Homes in Baldivis WA 45Aug 14, 2013 4:23 pm so turns out that the soap holders were the least of our worries with the tilers. we visited the house friday afternoon to just creep around the outside and look through the windows. the tilers actually left two doors open........ so it ended up being a good thing even tho i was furious at the time but it allowed us to go into the house and see how average they were before the grout went in. the shower hob, bath hob and back splash are all supposed to be feature tiles, and THEY WERE THE WHITE WALL TILES. and it looked DISGUSTING. luckliy they left their plans there so we could check on the spot that they were told what we had on our plans. and they didnt even follow what was written right in front of them! so bad! so we called ideal and they contacted the superviser who went in, agreed it was wrong and tore them a new one. so i think this whole week will be spent fixing there stuff up. ill go back on friday, during the day and hopefully they will be there so i can just make sure its right this time. on a brighter note, remember how they discontinued our kitchen/bar bench tops and we had to change selection? well that was all installed last week and looks better then our original selection! so i guess everything happens for a reason! We've been at lock up for about 3weeks now. do you guys know what the average time is for lock up based of previous experience? ive been told around 6weeks in most cases, is it unrealistic to think, best case senario that we will only have 3 weeks left? title: 14/1/13 Site Works: 23/3/13 Slab: 6/4/13 Bricks: 17/5/13 Roof: 6/7/13 Lock up: 25/7/13 PCI: 8/10/13 Handover: 22/10/13 viewtopic.php?f=31&t=64026 Re: Building with Ideal Homes in Baldivis WA 46Aug 14, 2013 4:59 pm I can't believe they messed the tiles up so badly!!! Though good to hear you like the new selection more They say lockup is the halfway point. My timeline is on the first page of my thread which might give you an idea, I'm on my phone so it's hard to check and I don't remember off hand. I hope you don't have anymore stuff ups!! Re: Building with Ideal Homes in Baldivis WA 47Aug 14, 2013 5:41 pm awesome. thanks fmac! it was less then 2 months from your lock up to PCI so that makes me feel better title: 14/1/13 Site Works: 23/3/13 Slab: 6/4/13 Bricks: 17/5/13 Roof: 6/7/13 Lock up: 25/7/13 PCI: 8/10/13 Handover: 22/10/13 viewtopic.php?f=31&t=64026 Re: Building with Ideal Homes in Baldivis WA 48Aug 14, 2013 6:59 pm Assuming we get the keys next Wednesday it will be exactly 20 weeks since slab down Re: Building with Ideal Homes in Baldivis WA 49Aug 14, 2013 8:30 pm Can the tilers read English ...what the?? How dumb are they!! Glad the supervisor is onto for you!! Good news about the bench top.... yay!! From lockup to keys for us was 8 weeks. So maybe another 5-6 ...fingers crossed for no more stuff ups!! Re: Building with Ideal Homes in Baldivis WA 50Aug 16, 2013 5:08 pm cool thanks for all the feedback everyone! we got an email today saying our tile stage was finished. so hopefully it was finished correctly! hopefully they leave a door open again, but i doubt it as my partner ripped them a new one for leaving it open last time. i didnt mind it so much because we got to see inside! haha Fmac i wish ours was 20 weeks! your slab went down 8 days before ours!! so that roofing fiasco cost us more time the i realised!!! hope you get keys on wednesday! thats so exciting! Ill update with photos soon hopefully! title: 14/1/13 Site Works: 23/3/13 Slab: 6/4/13 Bricks: 17/5/13 Roof: 6/7/13 Lock up: 25/7/13 PCI: 8/10/13 Handover: 22/10/13 viewtopic.php?f=31&t=64026 Re: Building with Ideal Homes in Baldivis WA 51Aug 16, 2013 9:10 pm so we visited the house and the house wasn't locked up again!! im okay with that tho because we got to see the bathroom again they have fixed their mistakes and ill show you some before and after shots. Heaps different! Re: Building with Ideal Homes in Baldivis WA 53Aug 16, 2013 9:23 pm Looks good! Didn't remove the soap dishes? Yeah unless you have mitred tiles you will see it. I was something we paid to have done, though they missed one tile on the bath, one of the things to fix up for next week! Re: Building with Ideal Homes in Baldivis WA 54Aug 16, 2013 10:49 pm yeah they still ignored our request about the soap dish but at the end of the day it was on the forms they received. its not that big of a deal. i didnt even know what i mitred tile was until just now haha!! i think thats really weird/stupid that its not a standard thing, i dont understand how we got through the whole process and no one asked as if we wanted to upgrade?! prestart lady changed our house without permission but didnt mention a thing about mitred tiles!! crazy! hahaah oh well. learn something knew everyday! is there anything i can do about the tiles? or will i have to re-tile once we are in to fix my stuff up? gahh! i liked the first half of the build, everything since lock up is so bloody stressful! title: 14/1/13 Site Works: 23/3/13 Slab: 6/4/13 Bricks: 17/5/13 Roof: 6/7/13 Lock up: 25/7/13 PCI: 8/10/13 Handover: 22/10/13 viewtopic.php?f=31&t=64026 Re: Building with Ideal Homes in Baldivis WA 55Aug 16, 2013 11:06 pm No idea if there is any fix other then re-tiling. We only knew because building with Aussie they don't mitre tiles in their displays so we knew we wanted it done, same as changing from plastic to chrome grates It's amazing what things they don't tell you!! And if you'd never built before you wouldn't know about! I wish I'd known about nib walls in the showers!! Re: Building with Ideal Homes in Baldivis WA 56Aug 17, 2013 7:52 am I find prestart girls barely ask you upgrade a thing. Luckily for us could we are building display spec home it came standard. I check inclusions for it but that's cause we have already built before and I don't all all edges of the tiles haha.
You could always paint them with similar colour to tile?? Re: Building with Ideal Homes in Baldivis WA 57Aug 17, 2013 12:51 pm thanks guys! LeanneR, thats a good idea! i think we will probably paint them until we get around to retiling, atleast just the shower hobs, i dont see it being a problem in on the bath hob because really, i didnt even notice it on the bath if this build has taught me anything, its that i cant be a control freak! haha! and to never build a "forever home" on your first try! luckily we only wanna stay in the house for a few years and build again, house is going to be awesome but the little things i wish i changed will eat away at me because i hate things not being perfect! there is a lot of things i have learnt and would do different, hey at least i can read plans now! we signed off on it with no idea what we were looking at! Rookie error! hopefully thats the last thing i got wrong, because there isnt much left to do! title: 14/1/13 Site Works: 23/3/13 Slab: 6/4/13 Bricks: 17/5/13 Roof: 6/7/13 Lock up: 25/7/13 PCI: 8/10/13 Handover: 22/10/13 viewtopic.php?f=31&t=64026 Re: Building with Ideal Homes in Baldivis WA 58Aug 17, 2013 12:55 pm Yeah I'm glad we got opportunity to build again and build our 'forever' home. No way we could stay in current place. Well we could but not happily. Was def a practise run hahaha Still been tiny little surprises with new house but nothing that would bother me forever or anything Re: Building with Ideal Homes in Baldivis WA 59Aug 18, 2013 10:54 pm Loooove the feature tiles Aston!! Looks great. Gahh well I'm on my second build....and well still made mistakes! Some of them are basic too, wow what were we thinking !! You never stop learning that's for sure. Def need to do it one more time to get it right.... Hope those tradies start locking your house up soon. Baldivis is bad for building theft!! Cute puppy dog too Re: Building with Ideal Homes in Baldivis WA 60Aug 23, 2013 6:02 pm i havent visited the house since tuesday but since it was sunny all week i do hope the managed to get the exterior painting started although i wont hold my breath for it! we are going today so i do hope something has been done! we were told PCI is about 3 weeks away so im getting abit nervous. as ive stated before I literally know nothing about anything! ive grown up in rentals, and generally not very good ones most of my life so that worries me for example: ive never even had a stone top bench! so i have no idea if they did a good job with it!! we can feel the join in the bench in the bar area and i dont like it but i dont even know if thats normal or not!! my partner is a tradie so he knows a bit more then me, but he's an industrial sparky so really doesn't know that much more then me! so all that being said, we were thinking about spending the extra money and have an inspector come out and check it out! do you think thats worth the money? and to those who have build before, how did your PCI go? many errors? title: 14/1/13 Site Works: 23/3/13 Slab: 6/4/13 Bricks: 17/5/13 Roof: 6/7/13 Lock up: 25/7/13 PCI: 8/10/13 Handover: 22/10/13 viewtopic.php?f=31&t=64026 Ask for references and speak to them.
