Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 05, 2013 8:00 am Hi everyone, I need some urgent help with my external house colours. I am building a very simple Porter Davis home and I am having trouble deciding between monument and woodland grey to go with Dune. We are rendering the whole house and will be using Dune for most of the render but are doing a feature colour for the front Portico (opposed to doing the garage door in a grey tone). I really like monument however we want the window frames to be in the grey tone and the only option is woodland grey (monument is not an option). I am unsure if a feature colour (like monument) would look wrong if the window frames are then woodland grey. Also, is monument too dark for a feature colour and should I be looking at Raku or something similar. This concerns me as I then have three different greys going on in the facade which I don't think is ideal. Can anyone offer any suggestions or help? Thanks, Kmoz Re: Help with external house colours 2Apr 05, 2013 8:50 am I think monument may be a little too dark as a feature colour, it will look basically black I believe. I can see your way of thinking around not having too many colours going on... I think you could find a nice feature render colour to go with woodland grey, but I can't help you with a suggestion there. At Bunnings in the paint section, they had some colour schemes to go with colorbond, you could also browse the paint chips with a woodland and dune chip in your hand and see what catches your eye? What colours will guttering and fascia be? Our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=64705 Re: Help with external house colours 3Apr 05, 2013 9:02 am I would say woodland grey as well. We've got woodland grey roof, gutters and fascia (were meant to have dune fascia but they put the wrong colour then we actually liked it and told them not to change it.) We're doing dune render on the front side of the house. We've also got linea board at the side of the house (as my builder doesn't like to go straight from render to brick, so we had to pick the colour for the linea board that would go with dune and woodland grey. We chose Dulux Malay grey. It is a lovely colour and the sample pot looked good against the colourbond samples that we had. http://m.dulux.com.au/trade/colour/p/PG ... malay-grey We're going with black window frames as we've got solar block glass throughout the whole house. The windows went in yesterday and look really good (although we're only wrapped at the moment so I don't know what it looks like with the bricks/render etc). Goodluck. The gutter to match is monument, so I was thinking; Roof: Twilight Gutter: Monument Fascia: Dune Downpipes: Dune (to match render) Render: mostly dune Windows: woodland grey (and this is where it comes unstuck) But maybe Woodland grey for gutter instead so it matches windows. Then it is just the render feature colour. I do have my reservations about woodland grey and it throwing off green. I have read other posts about this. Re: Help with external house colours 6Apr 05, 2013 11:49 am Hi Kmoz, Hope this is helpful - We have used a combination of Surfmist, Dune and Woodland Grey for our external colours. We have used Woodland Grey for our front render and Dune for our cladding. Surfmist is the roof and side paint and bag. Window frames are Woodland Grey also - however they don't seem to have come out as dark as the render... Photos aren't the greatest, but you can get an idea. We are stoked with out colour choice Re: Help with external house colours 7Apr 05, 2013 8:24 pm Hi All, We did our colour selections only a week ago and went with the general rule of lighter colours graduating down to a darker base. Heavier colours at the bottom. Our colours are: Roof and Gutters - Surfmist Walls - Shale Grey Base plinth render - Woodland Grey. Not sure if this helps at all. It's an old rule of thumb but a goodie. However I love the look of your place atom_ute! Did you have much trouble convincing PD to do the linea boards? We're doing them at our place too but took some convincing! Good luck all! http://ourgroveblog.wordpress.com Re: Help with external house colours 8Apr 06, 2013 7:19 am Hi guys, Thanks so much for your feedback. Atom_ute I really like your pics. The woodland grey looks lovely and as render, it doesn't seem to throw off the green tinge that others speak of. I think I will head to bunnings and get some paint samples and see how I go! Thanks for your comments and pics! Kmoz Re: Help with external house colours 9Apr 06, 2013 6:25 pm Great thread. Hoping to keep it going! We have to choose colours soon - and I'm colour blind so my votes count for half! We are thinking surf mist for garage door and roof. Some sort of darker grey like pictured above for one half of house then a light off white colour for the other. Window trim white. Such hard decision though as everyone's houses are so different and you don't know exactly what it will look like until it's finished. Re: Help with external house colours 10Apr 06, 2013 9:44 pm kmoz Zalira, Does your woodland grey give off a green colour? Hi Kmoz, I think it does throw a bit of a green grey in some lights compared to some of the other colorbond greys which look a bit more 'blue' Here is a pic of what it looks in the afternoon. I don't have one of it in the direct sun yet as we always seem to be out there in the afternoon and early evening Early evening My build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65324&p=1032514#p1032514 The Dulux colour consultants are awesome. If you show them the photos they should be able to figure it out for you straight away 1 1675 Thanks Pulse, thats really helpful and very much appreciated.
