Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 04, 2013 1:40 pm My husband and I have bought a block of land just outside of Canberra and waiting for it be ready. In the mean time we are about to sign up with a builder and going through the design process, trying to get ideas, colour combinations with bricks and roofs etc. We have trolled new suburbs to see what we like. There is 1 particular house near by that I love the brick colour that they have chosen. I drive by as much as I can to see if it get's boring over time. It's been months now and the owners probably think I am stalking them by seeing the same car pass their house. Our builder uses PGH and Austral but I cannot find the brick on their website. My next step is to write these poor people a letter explaining I am building a house and love their brick and in fact not a stalker. I will have to ask nicely and hope they are the original owners that chose that brick. Was wondering if I am the only person going to extreme's or are there other 'weirdo's' out there just like me Re: What extreme's have you gone through to get what you wan 2Apr 04, 2013 1:53 pm Hi Ms! I think we've all done something similar so don't feel like a weirdo Chuck up a pic on here and let's see if any of the forum go-ers can help you out! YTD. I've knocked on the front door of someone's house to enquire about the colour of their render. Make sure you do it at a reasonable time. Feels a little bit awkward - but I reckon most people would be flattered that you took an interest in their house. The people who I asked were great and even gave us some tips about a local landscaping place that we did not know about. Re: What extreme's have you gone through to get what you wan 5Apr 04, 2013 2:09 pm I'd probably just knock on their door and ask them. At the same time, you could ask them for permission to take a close up photo of the brickwork. If they don't have the brick details you at least have good reference pic to give to the PGH and Austral and say "whats' the closest you've got to this". You never know they might have a leftover brick in their garage you could have. Re: What extreme's have you gone through to get what you wan 6Apr 04, 2013 3:12 pm Agree with just knocking and asking I'd be much more likely to respond to someone who knocked and asked politely than to a random letter writer. When I was a kid I remember a few people knocking on the door (or wandering up for a chat when Mum or Dad were in the front garden) to ask about their house - it's Hardiplank which you see around a bit but certainly not everywhere so people were curious to find out what it was. They were always happy to have a natter about this and that about their house, especially as it was a kit home and Dad did most of the work himself. ~ Anne I used to be indecisive but now I'm not quite sure. Eeek - We're embarking on a knockdown rebuild! This means that you can search for and access DAs by street address. Generally you will be able to access elevations, shadow diagrams and other DA details including external colour selections. If you know the address of the house, you can probably just look up the DA to find the colours they used . Some councils require to register, others just have a simple terms and conditions page. IMHO this kind of information should at least be protected by a registration/login. I can forward you their response if you PM me your email address. I objected to our signatures, floorplans and contract price being on public display, as surely it is an advantage for potential buyers. Re: What extreme's have you gone through to get what you wan 9Apr 05, 2013 2:05 pm In Canberra there is a webpage allhomes.com.au. There is all sorts of sales information you can find out there. Every time it changes hands you can see how much someone has bought the house for and how much it's sold for. All the photo's that's ever been uploaded to sell the property. It's good but it's also bad cause anybody can have access to it. Having said that it' doesn't tell me the name of the brick.. Thanks everyone for their input. By the looks of things, I think I will have to knock on their door I would be wary. Is you site demilished but nothing else done? Sounds like liquidity problems to me. Our builder did the same. Got hundreds of thousands of dollars of… 2 15498 Sounds like rubbish to me. Ask for the contamination report which I doubt they have. If it's part of a normal subdivision it would have had a contamination report done… 9 5697 yep sounds good make the footing bigger to to allow for the pipe in the middle 3 7362 |
