Hi Fancy Pants, if you check with your site manager they should be able to give you a few recommendations for painters in the area! Dale Alcock Homes. We love building. Or pseudo-Jemima? Isn't Jemima on maternity leave? Sorry, I digress... I'll drop our CLO an email. And thanks to those who PM'd me too. I'm sure we'll get a quote we're happy with. I was also wondering, has anyone had any experience with wallpaper? I'm really liking the idea of a feature wall in the master bedroom but I'm not sure we're brave enough to try and hang it ourselves. So far I've been told to check out samples from Wall Candy in Highgate/Freo, Living with Innovation in Subi and Fabric Studio in QLD (online obviously). Like a big wall sticker Re: First home build with Dale Alcock in Aveley: Painter rec 249Sep 30, 2013 3:04 pm So we popped over to the build this weekend and were happy to see that the bathroom has almost dried out and everywhere else in the house is completely dry which means we should be getting grey float asap. However, I'm pretty cut up that the neighbours boundary garage wall has started to go up before ours has been finished. We now have a gap between the two garage walls which is too small to allow anyone to get in to it but big enough that everyone can clearly see that our wall is unfinished. I'm actually pretty devastated. We paid for a fully rendered house, we were expecting a fully rendered house, I really want my fully rendered house. It wouldn't matter as much if they had built to the boundary like we did so the garage walls would essentially be touching, but this hasn't happened. You clearly can't install a fence between these walls and the gap is big enough for pets to potentially escape. If you were the brickies working next door and you could clearly see that your work was going to prevent the build next door from completing their work, would you not freakin' say something? It's also big enough for rubbish to accumulate between the two houses but too small for anyone to get in and clear it. It just makes no sense to me. I'm hopeful that our side fence will come up to exactly where our garage wall finishes so non of the crap-accumulating gap is actually on our property. I'm going to be utterly furious if this is the result of our measurements being out. Pathetic I know, but it will haunt me every day we live there. Is there any chance that there's some new fandangled piece of equipment that will allow our wall to be rendered and painted? I know it must seem petty but it's not what we wanted and it's not what we paid for. I got really teary when I saw it. It hasn't been helped by the fact that it's a long weekend so we haven't been able to get straight on to it with DAH. Someone please tell me I'm overreacting and there's actually a simple solution! Re: First home build with Dale Alcock in Aveley: Render prob 250Sep 30, 2013 3:13 pm Being totally honest here...I would be just as devastated as you with that wall!! Hopefully they can still do something it's your SSs job to figure it out though as it needs to be finished off! Our garage wall is also a zero lot boundary wall but the closest we were allowed to the boundary was 110mm not on the actual boundary so this might have something to do with it? We are also in the city of swan and did try to get right on the boundary but couldn't Re: First home build with Dale Alcock in Aveley: Render prob 252Sep 30, 2013 4:08 pm Boo! I'd be angry too! I hope for you that there is some kind of solution. Re: First home build with Dale Alcock in Aveley: Render prob 253Sep 30, 2013 6:37 pm At least I'm not feeling so bad about being this upset now. Re: First home build with Dale Alcock in Aveley: Render prob 254Sep 30, 2013 6:39 pm I'd be so upset too. Perhaps they can use long pole with long blade ok it like they do on the slabs Re: First home build with Dale Alcock in Aveley: Render prob 255Sep 30, 2013 7:02 pm Wow words defy me ..... I think your right to be upset <!-- l --><a class="postlink-local" href="https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=62083">viewtopic.php?t=62083</a><!-- l --> Re: First home build with Dale Alcock in Aveley: Render prob 256Oct 01, 2013 1:27 am Seriously who would do that!!! They should have to get the brickes to knock that part of the wall down and give you x amount of notice to get your builder to render and paint it... No common sense!!! Your builder will have to do something. I wonder why the plans were approved that way in the first place??? If both builds were a zero lot clearance it would be ok, but not like this. Surely the approving shire would have to be responsible somewhat? Who has a clearance like that. Crazy! Re: First home build with Dale Alcock in Aveley: Render prob 259Oct 01, 2013 10:12 am The other SS should have known better than to let their brickies do that without talking to your SS first. My build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=64437 Re: First home build with Dale Alcock in Aveley: Render prob 260Oct 01, 2013 11:20 am That will definitely need to be corrected...you're quite right to be upset. I think your SS will just have to get the neighbours wall knocked out. Applying render properly will require the tradie to use a float right up against the wall, then smooth with a sponge float later. No doubt it can be painted with a long pole, but I suspect the neighbours' wall will need to come down. Hopefully that doesn't cause any problems with them down the track.
