We signed up in August 2012 and are still waiting unfortunately.. mainly due to the Developer holding us back.. I feel privileged to see our attempt to convert the web hub into a WIL has captured the eye of new builders we thought this design lacked inside storage so we decided the web hub wouldnt be used as much so why not turn it into a WIL? You can never have enough storage!! also just a very minor thing i didnt realise until we had our plans back was that bedroom 4, the door frame is set right back from bedroom 3? Im very fussy and almost have an ocd with things must be sametrical the only thing with alining it to bedroom 3 is the WIL and bedroom 4 doorframes will buttup (next to each other) which we didnt mind.. We just did a few little things to change the design around.. by expanded the laundry taking 300mm using the space from the study to make the laundry feel bigger.. other than that we thought the flow of the house was great! Goodluck and looking forward to see your pics through your building process Building the "Avoca" by Dale Alcock Re: First home build with Dale Alcock in Aveley 22Apr 05, 2013 10:07 pm busybusybusy Hi Fancy Pants Great to see your building the Avoca with Dale Alcock also! Goodluck and looking forward to see your pics through your building process You're a clever cookie, busybusybusy! Changing the web hub to a WIL makes so much sense to me. We don't have any munchkins yet so we wouldn't really be using the web hub anyway and it's not quite big enough to convert to a useable room. I noticed the difference with the bedroom doors too and I think we're leaning towards moving the door to Bedroom 4 forward as well. Glad to hear I'm not the only one with OCD tendencies! Hope the situation with your developer progresses quickly. It must be so frustrating. We have two school aged boys who probably would have used the space if we had left it as a web hub as is but then i thought all i would have is the laundry linen closet which is way too small for me.. Im thinking the same idea with the planter box under the theatre window.. was this expensive to add on? We've done alot of work at our current home building planterboxs and sticking on the cladding etc so i just didnt even bother to ask? i love being a DIY'er Finally waiting patiently in construction.. we will just be wrapped when it all comes together Building the "Avoca" by Dale Alcock Re: First home build with Dale Alcock in Aveley 24Apr 07, 2013 3:59 pm Quote: Oh Blush! We had to do it in order to meet the design guidelines for the estate we're building in. We needed to have two architectural features so figured the portico + the planter box would cover our bases. We popped by our block after looking at some display homes for exterior colour ideas and were deliriously excited to see that someone in our segment finally has a slab down! For now we'll just have to live vicariously through our neighbours. http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag10/pants_de_fancy/neighbours_zpsdb7847cf.jpg It was fun trying to figure out where they intend to put everything. Their bathroom had us completely puzzled until we realised it was a bathroom with laundry right next door. I'm so looking forward to seeing all the streetscapes change over the coming year. Unconditional finance approval came last week so settlement on our block is due on 7 May. We had to choose our our external colours this week to be evaluated for the 6-star energy rating and have decided to go with the same colours that are in the Stoneleigh display home: http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag10/pants_de_fancy/filmandfancyblog_Stoneleigh_003_zps3f9cf2dd.jpg http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag10/pants_de_fancy/filmandfancyblog_Stoneleigh_001_zps36938fb8.jpg We've gone with Surfmist for both the Colorbond roof and the garage door, Solver Vitesse for our main (light) render and Solver Lundy Grey for our feature (darker) render with white lustre window frames. We wanted to keep things fairly light and neutral so I’m pretty happy with our final decisions. We have prestart booked in for the first week in May so now we’re debating the interior colours. Again, we want it to be light, bright and airy and also fairly neutral. We’ll add pops of colour and texture with our furniture/artwork/soft furnishings etc. We’re also anticipating Jarrah floors throughout which will darken with age. With that in mind, what are your thoughts on the following selections - Kitchen: http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag10/pants_de_fancy/kitchen_zps068d5cb5.jpg Bathrooms and Laundry: http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag10/pants_de_fancy/bathrooms_zps231b3911.jpg I’m hoping we’re brave enough to go with the black tiles (they’re actually a dark charcoal and quite stone-looking). Our choices are based on the elements pesent in these pictures (courtesy of Pinterest), which highlight dark floor tiles with white wall tiles and silver tap ware: http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag10/pants_de_fancy/filmandfancyblog_Stoneleigh_004_zpseb26de4d.jpg The Platinum Micro Laminex for the bench top was recommended to us as being in keeping with the Caesarstone we’ve chosen, but on closer inspection the Caesarstone is very white and the Laminex is very beige. That said, I think it still looks good with the white wall tiles and charcoal floor tiles. Most of the whiter Laminex/Formica options either include a pattern my other half doesn’t like, or are colder, blue-based whites rather than a warmer white like the Caesarstone. We are also aiming for a level of continuity between the external and internal colour choices. Re: First home build with Dale Alcock in Aveley 28Apr 19, 2013 9:32 pm Looks amazing!! We have a very similar colour scheme for our kitchen, our tiles look very similar. I worried it would be a little boring but I think it means you can add character with appliances, tea towels etc and when you get board much easier and cheaper to change and everything goes with white!!
I love your bathroom colour idea. It will make the floor tiles a feature. I quite like the bench top colour. Have you thought of asking how much it would cost to have the stone in the bathrooms? Re: First home build with Dale Alcock in Aveley: colour choi 29Apr 19, 2013 9:41 pm The colors are very very nice! Good choice! Maybe I would have chosen (as I did ) a darker tiled splash back, just to have a bit of contrast and "movement"! Are you going to have floated vanities? I forgot to ask a quote about it and now it is too late!! Re: First home build with Dale Alcock in Aveley 31Apr 19, 2013 10:01 pm fmac Looks amazing!! We've been told we can have that costed at pre start but I think we might end up blowing our Caesarstone budget on the island bench in the kitchen. I'm really liking the idea of waterfall edging, which we've been told will most likely cost $1,000-1,200 per side. Holy moly! I forgot to ask a quote about it and now it is too late!! I keep contemplating a darker splash back but then I always end up reverting to the glossy white! We will have to ask about the floating vanities at pre start. We have SO MANY things to be costed at pre start! Re: First home build with Dale Alcock in Aveley: colour choi 33Apr 19, 2013 10:05 pm Yeah it is worth having both options! We had a piece of stone included with our build but it made our island only 80cm wide! So at prestart we paid for a second piece so we could make our island 1m wide and we used what was going to be our island in the bathrooms. I wish we could have had waterfalls ends but we overspent on kitchen upgrades! I have seen something similar done in laminate but not till after so was too late to cost. Re: First home build with Dale Alcock in Aveley: colour choi 34Apr 19, 2013 10:06 pm asj25 Love your design and colours! Always love DA's designs though! Hope it all goes well - your variations and colours are excellent I think! Very exciting! Thanks asj25! I'm really happy with our floor plans. Hopefully the finishes we choose will be complementary to the design. Re: First home build with Dale Alcock in Aveley: colour choi 35Apr 20, 2013 2:31 am Hi fancypants - loving all your colour choices especially external! We are too building with DA and have pre-start 17 may so will be looking very closely as your choices. We are also planning quite a white/neutral look. Most of our design is the Stoneleigh and Love the external colours. However the front part of our design in archipelago and ended up going with same external colours as display. I am a big fan of vitesse colour and may use as internal wall colour somewhere. Good luck for pre-start!! Re: First home build with Dale Alcock in Aveley: colour choi 36Apr 20, 2013 7:12 am love your color choices we have similar color choices in the main bathroom. Re: First home build with Dale Alcock in Aveley: colour choi 37Apr 20, 2013 8:55 am I love your external look and colours. Light is lovely. The decked entry looks fantastic. It is all very non-display-homeish! I love you kitchen colour choices . I'm not so keen on the black bathroom floor tiles - but I think you can probably pull them off with your vintage look/style. (I'm thinking black will show grub very easily, but if you are the OCD type, you'll probably have them looking spick and span at all times.) I would stick with a light coloured splash back. http://www.housebythewater.wordpress.com From blank block to new home in Mandurah, Western Australia. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65564 Re: First home build with Dale Alcock in Aveley: colour choi 38Apr 20, 2013 12:53 pm Thanks everyone! +Tbrown2012 Hi fancypants - loving all your colour choices especially external! I'm looking forward to following your build! housebythewater I love your external look and colours. Light is lovely. The decked entry looks fantastic. It is all very non-display-homeish! I also have long blonde hair which will show up much more noticeably on charcoal tiles than it will on beige ones (the other tiles we were considering) and I shed hair like a cat in a heatwave. Sometimes I think I'll be bald by the time I'm 40! But I like the darker tiles for two reasons - 1. I have a pathological aversion to grout stains. We'll probably seal all the grout in the house anyway, but I love dark grout between floor tiles as it doesn't show stains as easily, and 2. It's a little bit daring and quite masculine (for me, anyway). I'm feeling brave! I'm a huge fan of grey, black and white - I'm having a black and white kitchen, I've also chosen dark grey floor tiles for our ensuite bathroom with a plain glossy white tile, I think its a really timeless look.
