Did you install yourselves? Once our floors were in the gap was about 882 which fits quite snuggly. Hubby and his Dad installed the unit in about 30 minutes. They had all the pieces plus the necessary tools laid out on the bench and followed the directions step but step. It seemed pretty straight forward. Unfortunately, the sordid tale of the devil house continues... Within 48 hours of moving in to the house we were losing grout. This has only occurred at the point where the wall tiles meet the floor tiles but has happened in every room with tiling. Looking closer I'm not sure that it's actually functional grout but rather a line of grout at the join, kind of similar to caulking. Is this normal? http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag10/pants_de_fancy/missinggrout_zpsfc3ec233.jpg Several of the doors fit a little too snuggly. They clear the wood and the carpet at the bottom but don't seem to fit too well at the side or top. In the worst cases it's started to take the paint off the frames. We didn't notice this at handover, the only door that didn't fit was the bedroom closet door (which still doesn't fit). Is it possible for the doors to swell? Its just weird. http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag10/pants_de_fancy/tightdoors_zps6afa4d2f.jpg We painted our skirting boards in the EXACT same colour as our doors and frames are supposed to be (Solver Designer White) but now the skirting boards look white and the doors look cream. This annoys me for two reasons - 1. The doors are supposed to be white, and 2. now they don't match the skirtings! While I understand that whites can yellow over time, surely this is supposed to happen over the course of years not weeks? We've asked DAH to investigate further. http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag10/pants_de_fancy/skirtingvdoors_zpsee6d72cf.jpg The extractor fan in our ensuite doesn't extract. Instead the water condenses on the grate and rains down on to the floor. This happens even though we shower with the door open, the window open and the door to the toilet cubicle open with the toilet fan on. Hubby has been in to the roof to check that the vent is all as it should be. I'm lost as to why it's not working. http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag10/pants_de_fancy/extractorfan_zps08de6c98.jpg And our final current issue is one that I am quite devastated about. Basically, the glass work for our ridiculously expensive hobless and frameless shower doesn't match up appropriately with the tile work. The side glass is out. Because the side glass is out, the door glass is out. Because the door glass is out water that hits the door runs down and in to our ensuite when it should be running down and in to the shower cubicle. As a result we flood our ensuite floor every time we take a shower. At this point the glass guys are talking about installing a weather guard to try and direct the water into the shower cubicle. Because that's what we paid $1000+ for, an effing weather guard. If we'd known they'd do such a poor job we would've stuck with the standard hob and frame, which we have in the bathroom. http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag10/pants_de_fancy/ensuiteshowerdoor_zps314d36b6.jpg So if you've upgraded to a frameless and hobless shower please, please, please keep on top of this and make sure that your glass work and your tile work match up. If they're out at all, even a tiny bit, have your builder correct it as soon as possible. Re: First home build with Dale Alcock in Aveley: issues 850Jun 05, 2014 4:30 pm That's quite a list! No, I don't think that grout issue is normal. They should fix it for you. And I think we have the same skirting/door paint colour problem as you. Our skirtings were installed yesterday and my first thought was that they looked bright white and the doors looked yellow-ish. We had specified the same colour for our ceilings, cornices, doors and door frames (Solver WA White) and asked for skirtings in the same colour, but when installed they didn't look anything like the door colour. It took me a while to figure out, but I eventually worked out that the skirtings matched the ceilings and cornices, which didn't match the doors and frames. And then I found a tin of Natural White paint in the garage, left by the builder. We have raised it with our builder and are waiting for a response. But I agree: it looks bad having skirting and door frames that don't match. All I can say is good luck with getting everything fixed! Sorting it all out quickly is the very least they can do after all these problems. We made sure we bought our skirting paint directly from Solver to ensure consistency in colour. We had specifically asked for a bright white to go with our kitchen and Designer White was what the pre start consultant recommended. The skirtings (which we know for certain are Designer White) look great but the doors look crap. Creamy, ivory, yellowy crap. Re: First home build with Dale Alcock in Aveley: issues 852Jun 05, 2014 5:32 pm Thanks for the tour of your house. I too am looking forward to our first dishwasher ever and was also considering Tolix stools but after sitting at a friends breakfast bar on the weekend I think I would've preferred a gas lift stool instead. That's a real bummer about the shower though, shouldn't they replace the whole door and/or glass so it lines up properly rather than doing a quick fix splash guard job? https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=64434 Building our own custom design based on the Elwood by Dale Alcock Land settled - November Plans submitted to council - January Prestart - March Slab - 18 September Brickies - 23 October Re: First home build with Dale Alcock in Aveley: issues 853Jun 05, 2014 7:04 pm navs Thanks for the tour of your house. That's a real bummer about the shower though, shouldn't they replace the whole door and/or glass so it lines up properly rather than doing a quick fix splash guard job? I'm quite liking the gas lift stools! For a bar stool they are quite comfortable and for some reason I really like being able to spin around. I think I might be regressing back to childhood! I think you've touched on what could be a point of contention regarding the shower. That is EXACTLY what they should be doing but as we have a frameless shower screen the hinges are drilled directly in to the tiling at two points. I suspect this could mean more drill holes if it's moved, and possibly re-tiling if the existing holes are exposed? Re: First home build with Dale Alcock in Aveley: issues 854Jun 05, 2014 7:45 pm That's a bit of a list. Firstly on the paint we've had much the same issue with Solver - our walls are Ivory Vapor and because of all the cracking and sanding out of trowel marks we've had I've had to go and buy more paint as what was left behind has been finished. Three tries now and Solver, although allegedly following the same recipe, can't reproduce our wall colour. They have a serious issue with the consistency of their white bases and I think anyone considering painting should simply avoid Solver. DAH should know by now there is a QA issue with their product. The grout issue, the shower and the doors - just plain poor tradescraft I'm afraid and DAH need to rectify at their cost The extraction fan - maybe wired the wrong way and going in reverse or blocked just above the fan? Re: First home build with Dale Alcock in Aveley: issues 855Jun 05, 2014 8:51 pm Fancy pants I complained bout my doors already being discoloured when I had 6 month maintenance. Basically for told too bad One day I'll upgrade doors anyways and repaint in water based enamel. Which is what I asked for at prestart and stupid girl told me that was no standard. Clearly not. Oil baed yellows quick! I had designer white in my old house and that went really yellow/cream to point of pretty much matching the walls (dulux white duck 1/4) Re: First home build with Dale Alcock in Aveley: issues 856Jun 05, 2014 9:34 pm I really hope DA gets that shower, and everything else sorted quickly. That shower is an expensive, fancy upgrade and you should get exactly what you paid for, not some cheap fix. Now you've all got me very nervous about our designer white render turning yellow! Re: First home build with Dale Alcock in Aveley: issues 857Jun 05, 2014 10:21 pm Your house is looking amazing!! We have the same problem with the exhaust fan. Even with the window open in the shower we get water dripping off the ceiling fan. Rather annoying and having a steamed up ensuite every time we shower seems odd...The fan really doesn't do much Re: First home build with Dale Alcock in Aveley: issues 858Jun 05, 2014 10:44 pm Our doors have also yellowed. We had solver misty white and we used the same colour for our skirting boards. The difference between the skirtings I painted 6mths ago compared to the ones I painted recently (with the same tin of paint) are now different. The same thing has happened to me in the past with dulux. I think it is common with all white enamels. The frameless shower is unacceptable. That is something I would definitely be pushing to have replaced. It will all be over soon. Be strong:) My build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=64437 Re: First home build with Dale Alcock in Aveley: issues 859Jun 05, 2014 11:59 pm Wow! So much been happening with you. Congratulations on getting married!! And of course moving into the house. I am sorry to hear you are still having issues. Your floors look beautiful and your house so beautifully light and bright! We are eventually having a big housewarming party this week as as of this week have officially said goodbye to our last tradie!!! Good luck and keep us posted Re: First home build with Dale Alcock in Aveley: issues 860Jun 06, 2014 10:37 am I don't know if you used a building inspector but it might be worth using one even now to clarify these issues and see what you are and are not entitled to. The guy we are using will do an independent report for the builder and I think they will be less likely to fob it off if it comes from them rather than the client which they seem fond of doing. That's what I think anyway though I will have to let you know for sure after next week. https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=64434 Building our own custom design based on the Elwood by Dale Alcock Land settled - November Plans submitted to council - January Prestart - March Slab - 18 September Brickies - 23 October So it looks like we finally have some movement on site!
