Fingers crossed it's sorted quickly for you this week. I am so sorry you did not get keys today. Great that the house looks awesome! Fingers crossed you don't have to wait long x Re: First home build with Dale Alcock in Aveley: Shopping! 685Mar 19, 2014 8:15 pm So I've been distracting myself from a lack of keys by putting together a shopping list. We haven't purchased any of the following as we want to wait until we are in the space just to make sure the pieces will fit together in the way we hope they will. THE BEDROOM: I've posted some of these images before and they are still my front runners. Headboard for king bed from Fusions Furniture. http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag10/pants_de_fancy/bed_zpsbcc07ccd.jpg And chair also from Fusions Furniture. http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag10/pants_de_fancy/chair_zpsfb59d5d5.jpg But I think we’ll go for a more neutral coloured fabric. At the moment I’m really liking Beachcomber ‘Oatmeal’ by Warwick Fabrics. http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag10/pants_de_fancy/BeachcomberOatmeal_zpscdf419fe.jpg We're currently trying to decide between two potential pendant lights by Cougar Lighting to hang centrally in the room above the bed. http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag10/pants_de_fancy/Antiquapendant_zps2b868ca2.jpg http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag10/pants_de_fancy/Dijonpendant_zpse826ba0f.jpg At the moment I think I prefer the Dijon (2nd photo) over the Antiqua (1st photo) but I could change my mind. I’m also liking these 'La Salle' bedside tables from Impressions Furniture. I think the dark wood finish will give a nice contrast to the lighter colours we've used in the bedroom. http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag10/pants_de_fancy/LaSallebedside_zpse1d0c9a5.jpg THE KITCHEN & LIVING AREA: I've seen the black chalkboard wall and it looks fantastic! The plan is to hang three clocks across the top of the wall - one set to Perth time, one set to London time and the last set to Toronto time (my two besties currently live in Toronto and London). Hopefully it'll help with organising our Skype sessions too! These 'Pugg' wall clocks from IKEA should do the trick. The silver border should contrast nicely with the black of the chalkboard paint. http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag10/pants_de_fancy/puggclock_zps9ef77060.jpg I'm hoping we can get hold of three of the 'Bolsano' pendant lights by Erglo Lighting to hang able the kitchen island bench. We need something with a large base to make up for the botched placement of the existing light/internal beam and these look good. They technically haven't been released yet so I'm hoping it won't be too long a wait. http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag10/pants_de_fancy/Bolsanopendant_zps29c82445.jpg I lurve this 'Baye' buffet from The General Store. I think it looks fabulous in the Marri timber. http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag10/pants_de_fancy/BayeBuffetinMarri_zps463ffb8f.jpg We'll probably wall mount two or three of the IKEA Lack shelves above it for books and knick knacks. I think we'll get them in white because it will contrast with the light greige of the painted White Duck Half wall which they'll be mounted too. The shape repeats the shape of the buffet, which in turns repeats the square corners of our island bench. http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag10/pants_de_fancy/Lackshelf_zpsfaec64ef.jpg And finally, I think we've settled on the 'Bordeaux' modular from Dankz Furniture. It's shown here in a light coloured leather but we'll go for a darker coloured linen similar to the one we'll use in the bedroom (possibly the exact same one?). We'll also probably go for a 5 seater with a corner rather than the chaise. http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag10/pants_de_fancy/Bordeauxmodular_zps7bf2737c.jpg THE HALLWAY: I think there will be a bit of DIY involved in fitting out our hallway. We can't seem to find anything that will fit the dimensions we want so I'm tempted to by the 'Rekarne' console from IKEA, sand it back and paint it. It will fit perfectly at the end of the hallway as a drop station, possibly with a mirror hung above it. http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag10/pants_de_fancy/Rekarneconsole_zpsa3eaf1ae.jpg I'm also considering doing the same thing with the 'Norden' bench. I'd like to put it in the hallway and hang several large hooks above it for bags, scarves, hats etc. http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag10/pants_de_fancy/Nordenbench_zps139e2e80.jpg We'll also need a feature light near the front door (the rest of the hallway had LED lights installed) and I want something decorative but not too over the top. This 'Arden' batten fix light from Cougar is currently the forerunner. http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag10/pants_de_fancy/Ardenlight_zps671d3e04.jpg THE OFFICE: We're probably leaning towards having someone come out and fit out the office with inbuilt furniture. It'll give us a lot more flexibility in using the space we have here. The dark blue feature wall looks phenomenal so I'd like to hang this 'Xander' resin head from Matt Blatt. It's not to everyone's taste but I think it will be a great contrast and tie in the white glass panelled doors and white skirting boards. It also adds a bit of a masculine vibe, plus I like the ram as OH and I were both born under Aries. http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag10/pants_de_fancy/Xanderresinhead_zps1feb2e73.jpg Also adding a bit of a masculine vibe to the office will be this 'Projector' lamp from Domayne. I love it in the copper finish. It'll look so good with the dark blue wall and Jarrah flooring. http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag10/pants_de_fancy/projectorlamp_zpse0e55944.jpg THE LIBRARY/STUDIO: I have to say I was a bit disappointed with the quality of items I saw at Freedom Furniture. I saw better quality furniture at IKEA for half the price! Has anyone else noticed this? That said, I did find one thing I really liked - the Studio 2.5 seater. I'm tossing up between having this or a turquoise chaise as a reading chair in this room. http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag10/pants_de_fancy/Studio25seater_zps4c535bad.jpg RANDOM: And just because they're cool I really want to get these for the toilet door (they're from Mooza Designs). http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag10/pants_de_fancy/WCsign_zps42fda9be.jpg And this for the kitchen (Anrol Designs). http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag10/pants_de_fancy/spork_zps4b42e4d3.jpg Sorry to have overloaded you with pics, but writing this post has been quite an eye-opener for me. Now that I've seen all of the images I've collected together I can see a definite style trend in terms of the things the OH and I have been agreeing on. It would appear that our place is going to have a bit of a midcentury modern/contemporary Scandi vibe. When we started this journey I would've never have guessed that that would be the design aesthetic we would lean towards but now that I see it, I think it's kind of cool! Now, if we could just find the cash to pay for everything... I loved the couch from dankz and originally wanted it, but we ended up with a chunkier one from freedom at 25% off after having some ikea couches in the past and other cheaper couches the cushions didn't hold up. But I did have arm chairs from ikea me loved them! I think freedom is good when they are having a sale, but for something's wouldn't pay full price. Love the clock idea!! Re: First home build with Dale Alcock in Aveley: Shopping! 690Mar 20, 2014 12:42 am Hi , I went to freedom last weekend . The manager was rude I also over heard him tell another customer when asked can there be a delay in the furniture ordered he replied what do expect when your buying one lounge and getting one free . I went home and looked up reviews and they sounded terrible . I know most reviews are bad .i just thought way should I give my money to a company with a manager like that. When I walked in I thought I was in a ikea store . Really who can have a sale buy one lounge get one free . Iv been to fusion blonde headed girl really helpful . Nice stuff in there . Anthony marries also have a lot of marrie furniture that's not badly priced . Also impressions Re: First home build with Dale Alcock in Aveley: Help! 691Mar 20, 2014 1:32 am Okay, I've just crawled out of bed because I can't sleep and I'm having a major anxiety attack. I'm hoping that I'm just overreacting because all the things that have gone wrong with this build have put me in a very negative frame of mind. What would you do if... You paid a 10% deposit ($1750) to book your solid wood floors in July 2013. The sales person made a call to the supplier to make sure that there was sufficient wood for your needs. You booked a delivery date (19/3/14) and an installation date (26/3/14) on 14/1/14. On the morning of 18/3/14 your partner receives an email stating that a progress payment of $6901 is needed by 5pm that day so that the wood can be delivered the next day (19/3/14). You scramble to make a direct transfer by close of business. On 19/3/14 your partner receives a phone call stating that the delivery will not be made because "we don't have the wood". Is this common practice? Isn't the the whole point to paying a deposit so you can secure the product? I really hope I'm overreacting and there is a simple solution to all this, but it's giving me a really bad feeling. The installer came out to inspect the quality of the slab was okay for installation (we had a few areas where there was chunky cement on the slab that needed to be chipped off) and he didn't say a word. I'm heartbroken for two reasons: 1. I LOVE the wideboard Jarrah we went with and apparently it's disappeared, and 2. They now have 50% of the cash and we have no product. My OH basically had to hang up on the guy because he had work to attend to so we're waiting for a response to the email we sent this evening. The installation was supposed to begin next week but it doesn't look promising. What would you do in this situation? What would you accept from this company? Obviously we're going to wait and hear what they say but I'm seeing red flags all over this situation and it's making me really uncomfortable. Re: First home build with Dale Alcock in Aveley: Help! 692Mar 20, 2014 8:16 am I wouldn't wait, forget about emails, you need to *talk* to someone, try and get down there in person if need be, stand your ground and tell them this is not acceptable. Look up the consumer affairs website and make sure you know your rights. Re: First home build with Dale Alcock in Aveley: Help! 693Mar 20, 2014 9:27 am When we did our Jarrah windows through a joinery company we had to pay 50% upfront for them to secure the Jarrah - I know they said it was a struggle to get good quality Jarrah. It did scare me and in the end we ended up having the windows installed prior to white coat and ceiling because I wanted to take possession of what I had invested so much into sooner rather than later. So unfortunately it might be possible that they can't get hold of the wood you want. Is that acceptable however after making you pay the 50% (which I would have thought would be used to secure the wood) NO. What does your contract say? Because it now sounds like they can't deliver on their end Good Luck fingers crossed for a good happy outcome <!-- l --><a class="postlink-local" href="https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=62083">viewtopic.php?t=62083</a><!-- l --> Re: First home build with Dale Alcock in Aveley: Help! 694Mar 20, 2014 9:29 am Opps one other thing is the delivery just being delayed or are they not delivering at all? <!-- l --><a class="postlink-local" href="https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=62083">viewtopic.php?t=62083</a><!-- l --> Re: First home build with Dale Alcock in Aveley: Help! 695Mar 20, 2014 6:06 pm AKB Opps one other thing is the delivery just being delayed or are they not delivering at all? We're waiting to hear back if it's a delay, and if so what sort of timeframe we're looking at. If the delay is significant I have a mind to ask for our money back, as they haven't delivered what was agreed to and it could potentially hold up carpet installation and our moving date. I really didn't like that they asked for the money the day before telling us they couldn't deliver. At best it shows a complete lack of communication between supplier and installer. At worst, it could be interpreted as somewhat suspicious. The lack of communication we've had from them so far isn't helping. Guess where my OH will be at 9am tomorrow morning? Sometimes I wish we'd never bothered to build this #$*%@& house! The hits just keep on coming.
