Our build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=66797 Re: First home build with Dale Alcock in Aveley: Take Two 650Mar 05, 2014 5:43 pm Sorry everyone, I didn't mean to create such suspense - we've just had a crazy start to the week! So long story short, no keys but the house is looking 1000% better than PCI #1. We got a phone call on the Mondy public holiday because of an issue with the evaluation. The bank apparently has old paperwork from before deletion of the driveway and alfresco at pre start so the valuer turned up wanting to know where $5000+ of paving had gone! This messed with the evaluation so it was going to cost us another $300 to get the valuer to go out again but after sending them a copy of the addenda as proof we had always intended to do it after handover, as well as the most recent site plan, it seems to be okay. Then yesterday we got a phone call at 7:30am because it turns out the bank can't provide us with a bank cheque even though they said they would! It all has to be done by direct transfer and they were very apologetic so said they could organise a 24-hour transfer or provide documentation for DAH stating that the money was in process etc. in the end we weren't too fussed about this as we weren't desperate for keys so a couple of extra days to move money won't be an issue. As it is we're not planning on collecting keys until the end of next week anyway because we have work commitments. So our five and a half pages of issues is down to a single paragraph! WINNING. Mainly just little finicky things like scuff marks and dents to the window frames, a bit of repainting etc. The main issues are the glass in the office double doors needs to be replaced as both doors have scratches running all over them, there are still a few chunks out of the render that were missed and need to be touched up and a couple of light fittings are going to be moved. NOTE: If you place specific fittings in particular places during your electrical plan make sure your electrical/prestart consultant notes your intentions in the paperwork. We thought we had done this for tiling, kitchen layout and electrical but only the tiling and kitchen layout have been set out as we wanted them and looking back through the paperwork I can see where it has been noted "island bench to be centred to opposite wall" and "splash back tiling to be centred to rangehood and hotplates". I have a thing for symmetry and our ensuite door had been centred to our bedroom and the light fitting centred to the ensuite door but in reality it's about 300mm off centre which just looks silly. When we look at the plans and paperwork it's not obvious that we wanted it smack bang in the middle of the room, so if things like symmetry are important to you be really explicit. It'll save you a fair bit of patching later! Anyway, live and learn. Also, the tiles look fabulous. Apparently the tiling guy was able to 'sand' the imperfections out (for want of a better word) and only two were replaced. They look great. I was so relieved as the tiling has been the one thing we've absolutely loved as soon as it was done. We're going to come in later and seal the grouting as all that beautiful white grout is making me nervous! Also, our fences are all up, courtesy of our neighbours. And while we were doing PCI #2 yesterday a woman called Annie, who is building in the new release when blocks are titled in June, came to hunt us down about house details because she thought our place looked beautiful and she wanted to do something similar and use our colours. That made me pleased as punch! It’s so nice when a complete stranger compliments the things you spent ages fussing over and second-guessing. It was a bit of validation I guess. So that’s where we’re at right now. Yay, fencing! Through the roller door in the garage along the western border. This is going to be paved with plants along the fence and the wall mounted washing line at the other end. http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag10/pants_de_fancy/fence1_zps481fc23b.jpg Looking back to the other end. With our painter, who was very accommodating as we PCI'd around him. http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag10/pants_de_fancy/fence2_zps4d755405.jpg Our smidgeon of a garden. This is where we're planning raised garden beds in gravel. I was hoping we could accommodate three chickens but I'm just not convinced. I don't want to get them and then have to give them up! http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag10/pants_de_fancy/fence3_zps539cfc48.jpg Looking back from the other corner. Can't wait to be sipping a glass of wine in our alfresco on a balmy summer's night. Perhaps next year. http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag10/pants_de_fancy/fence4_zps6574fe03.jpg So all things going to plan it’ll be PCI #3 and keys for us next Friday!
