Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Starting our building journey in WA! 21Apr 07, 2013 6:02 pm Thanks everyone. I'm still researching builders at the moment. I've crossed metro strata off my list and replaced it with aussie living instead. I think it will be a while before we make our decision because there are so many things i want to ask each builder but you never get a real answer over the phone. Re: Starting our building journey in WA! 22Apr 07, 2013 7:17 pm We are building with Aussie our sales guy was great and one of the reasons we went with them. We have had a few ups and downs but have a slab and looking forward to bricks starting soon Nt sure if they do custom designs but I know they will be really flexible with the designs, there was someone on here that had handover a few months ago that completely rearranged the inside layout to suit their lifestyle. Re: Starting our building journey in WA! 23Apr 13, 2013 7:43 am It's unfortunate that you didn't have any luck with Homebuyers Centre and that they don't build in your area. We're building with them and are really happy with the process so far. We're going through Keystart for finance though (they allow $50 per week payments during the build) which has taken longer than we would have liked but we are just waiting for our mortgage docs to arrive so we can sign and settle. Our actual building stage should begin in the next month! I agree that it's best to do your research and add as many of your upgrades into your building contract rather than waiting until prestart. We had a huge list of upgrades and added them in and then we also added about $4000 into our contract for a pre-start allowance so that the majority of what we couldn't add until pre-start was also added to our loan amount rather than coming out of pocket on the day. The thread about "things you forget" was particularly helpful in reminding us of things we would have missed such adding a powerpoint on our kitchen island, having our laundry linen closet converted to a supply cupboard with space for brooms, placement of switches, etc. Feel free to take a look through our thread. We have quite a few of our upgrades listed. Good luck with choosing a builder Nitro The Village at Wellard Homebuyers Centre Ultimate Entertainer (Custom) Our Home Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=61358 Re: Starting our building journey in WA! 24May 13, 2013 2:48 pm Hi Everyone, So our land's slope is a bit more trouble than we initially expected. Homebuyers, celebrations and aussie living homes all said that the slope is too big for them to work with. Which is frustrating because to us it doesn't seem that big but I guess in a structural sense it makes everythign more difficult than it needs to be. So I'm hoping people with land that slopes from front to back (lowest point at frontage and highest at rear of lot) can help me out. Does anyone know of any builders who would be willing to build on a slope. Now I am not exactly sure how big this slope is but I have wasted so much time with builders who say they can do it and then when it gets pushed further up the chain, we get told that they won't do it. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks Re: Starting our building journey in WA! 25Aug 07, 2013 4:15 pm Hey - its been a while since you have posted. How did you go? I would have suggested getting a site survey done seperatley that way you could take it to builders and they would know what they are dealing with. It would really depend how big the slope is. We had a small slope but just did cut and fill. Also in term of how long it took for us to find a builder - we brought the land in august 12, started looking sept/oct 12 signed end dec 12, prestart march 13, slab late july 13. So almost a year from when we brought our land to slab down. Feel free to send me PMs with any questions - it sounds like you are facing a lot of the same issues that we had. Re: Starting our building journey in WA! 26Aug 25, 2013 9:21 pm Howdy, So I haven't posted in a while coz I have been so busy lately. But we have finally got settlement for our block this Wednesday. Since my last post I have just been looking at builders but waiting on settlement before we make any decisions. We still need to do a soil test to go to the builders with. We are thinking of doing it separately so we can bring it to builders and get an accurate idea of site costs before signing. Hopefully in the next day or so i can post a picture of our lot so you guys can help give us some ideas of what we can do on our block. Thanks Re: Starting our building journey in WA! 27Aug 28, 2013 5:05 pm Sounds good - getting your own site survey etc done can be useful. We did that - but I got a little annoyed becuase we didnt get any money back from our builder for providing it. So perhaps just bring that up with the builder before they start.
