Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 28, 2013 6:13 pm I'll be doing colour selections soon with a small custom builder. The floor plan is completely custom and the builder doesn't have display homes, although I have visited some of their builds. I'm looking at going with timber-look tiles for the lower floor. I think wall / floor tile choice for the ensuite and main bathroom will be the toughest choice. Any tips on specific things I should think about before-hand? What decisions were your toughest - and why? What helped you to make your decision? I had a lot of inspiration pictures and I noticed they were all different so really that didn't help that much. Our builder is the same as yours ie. custom builder, no display homes etc. They did however send their colour consultant out to meet with us on the weekend so we could sit down and go through all the colour choices. She helped a lot. First we selected things that we knew we definitely wanted eg. Bench top colours, kitchen colour and then selected our other choices around those using a process of elimination. We eliminated everything we didn't like which helped narrow the field down. In the end we chose fairly neutral colours that hopefully won't 'date' too quickly. Do you know whether your builder provides a consultant? We didn't realise ours did until the builder asked us to make an appointment with her. I've got an appointment booked. I'm going to spend some time this weekend carefully looking at floor tiles for the living/kitchen/dining/hall. That's going to be a pretty tough choice. I've got some thoughts as to furniture/kitchen colours I like so will try an work with that. Out of interest, what colours did you go with for a 'neutral' scheme. We did our selections backwards. Usually people pick their tiles first and go from there (or so I'm told). We picked our tile and carpet colours last. Regarding our colours - have a look in my thread, it's all there on page 6 Custom downslope build Build thread viewtopic.php?f=31&t=61873 Blog http://www.buildingroyalmanor.blogspot.com.au Re: Colour Selections - Tips? 5Mar 28, 2013 8:04 pm we also picked our tiles and carpet after everything else. if you have display homes even from other builders go through it helps with colors. also check out other builds on this forum. ours also was a custom so we visited different homes and also our builders display home Re: Colour Selections - Tips? 6Oct 14, 2013 8:53 am I used a small builder in Victoria when building. He used a software program called Digital Decorator (www.digitaldecorator.com.au), which allowed me to see the colour choices (paint, bench tops, flooring etc). I found this wonderful, as I knew exactly what I was getting before work had commenced. It saved myself a lot of worry & our tradesmen a lot of time, as I did not need to change my mind. How much are you ahead in payments compared to where the build is at? Have you fully drawn down the loan? 5 11934 Just be careful with building stability during construction, that is when the structure may be weakened, refer to your engineering drawings for stability methodology. 1 7231 Thank you so much. This has been very helpful. We definitely wish to settle and get these people out of our life. They are trying to charge us interest on late… 7 14283 |
