Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 28, 2013 9:55 am Hi everyone, Just wondering if there are any hints/advice/examples of how to save money on including an outdoor room to your house plan? We're looking at building the Oxford 231 with DFH. The house is a rectangle design so the outdoor room would have to build on from the dining/living area. My partners' father works for Bowens so we would be decking the area ourselves. Would there be any savings with having DFH just building out the roof for the outdoor room?? Thanks guys Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=66238&p=1053710#p1053710 Re: How to save with building an Outdoor room? 2Mar 28, 2013 5:25 pm They're not much more than a roof, pillars & a floor; not a lot of places to save. Most builders seem to extend the slab under the alfresco when building one, so that's probably the cheapest building method. May be worth getting a quote either way, but I doubt you'd save much by not doing the concrete; you might save by doing your own floor covering out there. You might also save a little bit by doing the underside yourself (ie. the cieling; just get them to put roofing & the frame in place), but again, I doubt it'd be much. Re: How to save with building an Outdoor room? 3Apr 23, 2013 9:41 pm the outdoor rooms start at $8000 I think so you think we would not benefit from getting them to just build out the roof? I don't really know how it works to be honest lol. Do you think we should build an outdoor area on after the house is built (we're just trying to keep the mortgage as low as possible). Though I was told its better to build under the same roof lining? Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=66238&p=1053710#p1053710 I've just had a look at the website.
