Just the ensuite basin mixer is wrong but I am sure it will be replaced soon with the correct model. I really like all my choices except the guest bathroom cabinet (stipple cocoa). Vote +1 Re: Building The Vines - Dale Alcock 28May 17, 2013 12:23 am A small update We have changed Site Supervisor. We like his approach: differently from his predecessor, he takes notes of all the issues we raise. Tiling has finally started and it looks very nice!! The tiler is doing an amazing job! We have also managed to have tiled floor waste installed..maybe we will be able to block cockroaches and other insects that could come up from drains! I am really disgusted by them. I was also asked to change the feature tile in the ensuite as the one I had chosen was too thick compared to the wall tile. As soon as the tiler finishes, I will post new pictures! A part from this, we have kindly asked the site supervisor to align the kitchen bench top to both the walls as now it is flat on one side and back of 3mm on the other and it is not so nice too see. He agreed and he will work this out! We have definitely decided to change all windows with double glazing ones so we will have nicer and more solid windows. Some of the installed ones have not been fixed at the top and one also at the bottom (you can move it by 4cm)! By this way I think the insulation could be compromised. The supervisor is working on having this fixed even if we are going to change them. I will take this opportunity to change the dining and living full height windows into tilt and turn doors. This will work much much better. Re: Building The Vines - Dale Alcock 29Jun 02, 2013 12:58 am Hi Alessia, we too are building the Vines, we are only at prestart stage. It's great to see your journey and photos. We are pretty much going for the standard floorplan of The Willows with only a few minor changes. Re: Building The Vines - Dale Alcock 32Jun 03, 2013 11:06 pm Hi Alessia, I am considering building with Dale Alcock and have been reading as many reviews and blogs from DA customers as I can. It seems as though no matter who you build with there are always some issues but can I ask your overall satisfaction with DA? I have not yet found a builder who does not have some unhappy customers, and I understand that some people are hard to please I am understandably nervous as you really do hear some horror stories and I've never built before. Re: Building The Vines - Dale Alcock 33Jun 04, 2013 12:21 am Hi InigoJones, I am not sure yet if I would build with them again. At the very first stage, I thought that our issues were due to the high standards we were used to see in Europe. Later on, we have started to realize that Dale Alcock was not really interested in doing the job properly but just in getting quick money while ignoring most of our complains. That's why we had so many issues they had to fix after the job was marked as completed. Now, for example, they have mistaken the kitchen benchtop size and they are trying to bendaid the problem adding some gyprock to the side in order to fill the gap (Late tomorrow I will publish the pics). I have spent so much time to get this problem addressed and I am still waiting for a feedback from the CLO. When I pay big money, I expect a professional job. We chose Dale Alcock because of their reputation, that initially looked better than the competitors. I have never hired any other builders so I cannot make a comparison. Just this experience so far has not been good. Re: Building The Vines - Dale Alcock 34Jun 04, 2013 12:41 am Hi inigojones, I'm happy to chip in here as a Dale Alcock customer. I won't lie, we had plenty of issues during our build and I think we were a little naive as first time builders to think everything would go smooth sailing. In saying that, the issues we had weren't really anything major such as the few things Alessia has experienced so far. Maybe this is due to the fact that our plan was pretty much the stock standard design. Whilst we did make plenty of changes, we didnt move any walls or living areas etc. We just did things like change windows, add longer vanities etc etc. Towards the end of the build we definitely felt like if we ever built again we wouldn't choose DAH. BUT now that we are in our house and they resolved all our issues we have to say that we probably would build with them again (even though I don't think we will ever build again). But if we did, DAH would probably be our choice. We know of plenty of people who have built with other builders and have 'discovered' big issues once moving in. We've had no real surprises and although there are a couple of minor annoyances (leaking shower, problems with front door lock) we know they will be rectified and overall we are so very happy with our house. We had people on here telling us "once you move in you will see the build quality of DA and you will love it".. And all along we didnt think we'd feel that way, but I can honestly say that is exactly how we feel about our house now. Anyway, I'm not trying to sell them to you by any means, just trying to get the point across that there is ALWAYS going to be problem - some much larger than others - and in general DA really do seem to care and look after their clients. We never experience any resistance from addressing our concerns, issues etc. We even requested a meeting with more senior management than the site supervisor at our house after handover regarding a few things and they made it happen. The only unfortunate thing is that some tradies don't take as much pride in their work as they should and this is sometimes something that a builder cannot foresee. Best of luck with your decision and more than happy to answer any questions etc etc. Building the Riva by Dale Alcock Homes. Follow our progress here: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=57075 Re: Building The Vines - Dale Alcock 35Jun 05, 2013 1:47 pm The big issue with Dale Alcock is not that they have problems, all builders have problems. The issue is that you will pay a premium for a DAH home and you won't get a better job than you would from other builders. When I look at the quaility of the plastering in our house and the attempts at rectification by DAH and then consider what we paid I could have got the same for $50k less. Fact is with DAH additional cost does not equal additional attention to detail or additional consideration of your requirements. Re: Building The Vines - Dale Alcock 36Jun 06, 2013 4:01 pm I agree with Althom. When you pay more you expect more. More attention to details, better tradies and more efficient quality control. I do not agree with MissEm when she says "The only unfortunate thing is that some tradies don't take as much pride in their work as they should and this is sometimes something that a builder cannot foresee." As Dale Alcock is a certified company, it should have a supplier assessment and monitoring system in place to avoid inconveniences and provide a better service to the client. Re: Building The Vines - Dale Alcock 37Jun 06, 2013 4:29 pm And the old excuse of it's difficult to get good people doesn't apply. With the large number of redundancies in the mining industry there is no shortage of tradies and if DAH are charging more they can afford to pay more and thus keep and retain the best. Unfortunately it seems a bigger profit margin is the only result of their higher cost to the owner.
