Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 22, 2013 10:42 am Hi,
Firstly would like to thank everyone for this forum, I dont know where I would be without it! In the name of trying to give a little bit back, I am going to attempt my own thread. Firstly, we purchased our land last August to build our first home. Foolishly, we took our time deciding what to do for a few months... however, after a lot of research we decided to build with Redink. I should point out that our block is a rear strata, approx 450sq/m (not incl driveway). And although Redink dont have a separate 'project' dept, we really liked redink houses (and our sales guy!) and I think I was swayed by so much position feelings and love on here for redink! Also, we scouted out houses for sale in the area and some of the rear stratas by redink looked great! 5/8/12 - purchased land 6/12/12 - signed PCQ 26/3/13 - prestart 20/5/13 - building permit 20/6/13 - siteworks started 19/7/13 - slab 16/8/13 - bricks started 20/9/13 - bricks finalllllly finished 2/10/13 - colourbond up 8/10/13 - greyfloat done 14/10/13 - windows 15/10/13 - plaster started 22/10/13 - whiteset and ceilings finished 25/10/13 - locked out (robes, doors done) 29/10/13 - sanitary plumbing 1/11/13 - cabinets 2/11/12 - screeding 11/11/13 - tiling to start 12/11/13 - essastone 19/11/13 - tiling finished 22/11/13 - interior ceilings painted 27/11/13 - garage grano & driveway cut 28/11/13 - taps, toilets, shower heads, hot water system installed 4/12/13 - electrics done 6/12/13 - insulation done 10/12/13 - screens/mirrors/robes installed 13/12/13 - a/c and insulation installed 17/12/13 - started service cut down driveway. DO you think the shower will be too big in the ensuite then - Im a little scared as it will be able 2 metres long! Might have to install some walkie talkies so we can speak to each other if we are in there at the same time! I kinda want to get rid of the uneven wall at the back as I have been told it is éxpensive' when buildlers add 'nooks' like that... Am not sure if I have room for an over stack. I am just a little aware that the ovens are built so low to the ground - and I have trouble getting down too low already! haha. Would prefer to have it up higher - and that way I can get a microwave reccess as well...... I have considered moving bed 3 out under the eaves - however it is a fairly big room and not sure how well we will utelise the space. I have thought about extending it and adding a big robe along the back wall. Still so many things left to decide - and so little time Re: Redink SOR custom build - prestart - colours chosen 8Mar 25, 2013 6:28 pm Ok, had our interior design consult over the weekend. As other Redinkers have said, it really is worthwhile and makes the whole thing a lot easier. Was the first time my partner and I had set foot in a tile shop without getting cranky at each other! Was a full on day 9-4pm, but worth it. Prestart is tomorrow (so I dont have any time between choosing our colours and prestart to change my mind!) My partner loves black and I love white. I dont think we agreed on a single thing all day. Im pleased to say that I mostly won out with this... but he did have a few minor wins. Roof, garage and gutters: Shale grey Fascia, downpipes: surfmist Windows: white lustre Bricks: Augusta limestone (no render - neither of us are big fans of render) Ensuite colours - this is my partners win (you should have seen his face when he was allowed a black benchtop... as I said, its not my thing, but he looked so excited!)Galileo benchtop, snowdrift cupboard, grey tile for floor and back wall of shower as a feature wall, white tile for other walls, mosiac for under mirror Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ This is kitchen colours. New basmati bench, mist grey gloss cupboards, greyish spashback tile. Not sold on the splashback yet, but as we are doing it afterwards I am hoping Ill figure that out later Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Bathroom colours. Again light grey tile for floor, new basmati bench, mist grey cupboard, white wall tiles and a mosiac for under mirror. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Laundry - boring old grey and white. Formica marble and mist grey cupboards. My only care for this was that I dont have any white grout to clean hahaha Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ As we are hopefully getting the tiling done after handover we may make a few changes - but I think that it will all come together well. AS you can see in some of the pics we are hopfully putting through a oak-ish coloured karndean vinyl plank throughout the house. I really hate keeping tiles clean and I have a terrible dust allergy which rules out carpet. Am using the carpet allergy to put forward the case that I need shutters instead of curtains will see how I go with that one! Re: Redink SOR custom build - prestart 10Mar 25, 2013 7:14 pm e are also getting new basmiti for our kitchen benchtops and for the main bathroom we are also going black and white black and white freestanding bath black tiles white gloss floor to ceiling and a black feature wall . you can check put the beginning to give you ideas on my building thread (link below) let hubby know you can also get shutters for the bathroom and ensuites as well love the idea of shutters it is taking a couple of months to make them for us so should be ready straight after handover great color selections congrats if you have the big shower you can always have shower heads at both ends. also having the bigger robe in bed three would be fantastic Re: Redink SOR custom build - prestart 11Mar 25, 2013 7:36 pm Yep have bit the bullet and will go with double shower heads - seems so excessive but dont know what else to do with the space. Will see about the cost for WIR - the cost of cabinets etc always blows my mind!! Re: Redink SOR custom build - prestart 12Mar 27, 2013 4:09 pm Hey - that looks great - I love your colour selection. What did the additional shower head end up costing plumbing wise?? We have an open plan en suite (hobless/ no glass either) and Im putting in 2 heads. Also being extravagant and having 1800mm bath in en suite! Building with 101 Residential in Falcon. Re: Redink SOR custom build - prestart 13Mar 27, 2013 9:56 pm asj25 Yep have bit the bullet and will go with double shower heads - seems so excessive but dont know what else to do with the space. Will see about the cost for WIR - the cost of cabinets etc always blows my mind!! Hi asj25, We did have the two heads put in to our double shower (we're also with Redink), but then took them out - we thought, 'well, if you both want to shower at the same time there's the other bathroom, and if you want a rudey shower you'll both be up the same end anyway'! our bathroom's not very well designed in some ways and doesn't have room on the wall for a double towel rack, so we're putting it at the end of the shower - we're thinking hotel rooms (we don't have a shower screen, just the pane of glass, also like in hotels) - hope it works out that way and not permanently soggy towels and floors! Re: Redink SOR custom build - prestart 14Mar 29, 2013 6:47 pm Haha - all good points mandy67! Yes - still haven't committed to the double shower. It was about $450 to add another shower head. And I really don't know how often it will get used. Wish I could think of a better way to use the space! Re: Redink SOR custom build - prestart 15Mar 29, 2013 6:58 pm Hang the towels at the end of the shower? Doesn't look like there would be many other places to put them.... If its a long shower they won't get wet but easy to get to. Or swap vanity and shower positions. Not sure but looks like it would give you a bigger vanity.... Just a thought. Re: Redink SOR custom build - prestart 16Apr 04, 2013 9:43 pm Am giving up with the ensuite - but your right fmac - had I thought of it earlier I probably would have swapped the vanity and shower. Can anyone confirm something for me? Once you have your prestart changes all costed up and you send them back, does the builder then send everything back to make sure everything is covered? The little disclaimer down the bottom of my prestart costs about expensive variations fees has me worried Re: Redink SOR custom build - prestart 17Apr 04, 2013 10:59 pm You get sent a copy to sign. If there is anything wrong you just write the corrections on it in red ink and send it back We finished prestart in January and have had work done on the block and we are now just finalising some of the electrical plans without any variation fees. Basically as long as it is not structural or anything too major you should be fine. The disclaimer is more to stop people changing things every week or once the plans go out to the trades. If you have any other quetions we may be able to help with let me know. We only started at 11am - finished up at 5ish but it felt so rushed! Haha. Really didn't get things as finalised as I would have liked - and I went in to it really organised! Oh dear!! Re: Redink SOR custom build - prestart 19Apr 04, 2013 11:24 pm Yeah we spent the whole day there but still felt like we rushed...so much stuff to get done and I was organised too!! I have regrets with our electrical plan didn't think about it enough...didn't even know that we could have quad powerpoints until i saw it on someone else's electrical plan! They would be awesome! Re: Redink SOR custom build - prestart 20Apr 05, 2013 3:50 am when you go again tak to them and ask for variation should not cost you anything at this early stage but then i am with another builder and after my color selection i totally redid my selections expect for paint . i am also supplying my own switches and powerpoints to the house Hi All, see above image.
