Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Is anyone currently building with Simonds Homes? 2Mar 20, 2013 2:46 pm We built with Simonds. We had some fine times and I can only guess they would have ironed out there processes by now! What to expect... a mind blowing exercise! You are pretty much expected to choose all the colours for your house on the day. What you can do to make it a much easier process is to attend the showroom on a Saturday morning (general viewing and tour) well in advance and start getting your ideas together. You would want to have made up your mind before your appointment date on: What colour type do you want your walls... cream, white or grey tint? What brick colour and guttering colour? What type of architrave or trimming type do you want and what colour? That's only 3 of 60 questions you will be asked. Re: Is anyone currently building with Simonds Homes? 3Mar 20, 2013 2:53 pm dont forget questions such as which direction you want your tiles and handles running. Where abouts are you building Mishelby? Re: Is anyone currently building with Simonds Homes? 5Mar 21, 2013 9:15 am We had a horrible experience by the end. The overall design phase was very annoying to start. Then once we started the first SS was really good from the perspective that he was on top of a few concerns we had before we even noticed them. But then it all turned to poo with the second SS. Even though he touted that he built $2million houses he just stonewalled us when it came down to fixing items which made it a very dismal experience. All in all, we stick to our guns and having moved in 2 years ago, we are somewhat satisfied due to the hassles we went through. But I stress, there is not much you can’t do without a caulk gun By the end we came to grips that if we wanted the item fixed, and fixed properly, I’d rather do it myself. Yes from a moral perspective we were beaten, but in the end we (wife and I) kept our sanity. If there are items the SS is stalling you on, that is ok because you have the 3 month maintenance visit. If there are a few items you can live with for 3 months, wait and list everything… and I mean everything. The maintenance supervisors are generally good and the actual maintenance mob they use are all hourly paid so you will find that it’s a more pleasant experience. Re: Is anyone currently building with Simonds Homes? 6Mar 22, 2013 8:16 am Adam M. I have just had a house built by Simonds Homes QLD. To be fair it doesn't matter which state of Australia it is, it seems that they are all bad. Lack of communication, driveway cracking after two months. Wrong drawings given to the supervisor, driveway not merging with the road, windows not square, poorly managed, wrong driveway installed-(should have been exposed aggregate). The only positive was the fixture and fitting were of reasonable quality. In short if you are still thinking of building with Simonds, ........Think Again mate. We had our ups and downs but our experience with Simonds was fantastic. They were there for us even when we had 1 SS stuff up majorly. We are now building our 2nd Simonds home in SA and again the experience has been positive. We area waiting our sight start now. Its all good an well to read about horror experiences regardless of the builder. The important thing to remember is to apart of the process. Make sure you go to your site. Meet the tradespeople, take lots of pictures of all stages and don't be afraid to contact your CRC if you have concerns etc. Mostly enjoy the experience. Good luck and congrats. Wish you all the best. Once you signed the contract, they will find millions excuses to charge you. And have seen their sites unfinished for a long time. 4 24827 I haven’t.
