Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 14, 2013 12:18 pm What size is your Master Bedroom? Do you need a big bedroom if you have a large walk in wardrobe? Is 3.8 x 5.4 o.k.? Your thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks Re: Master Bedroom - What size? 2Mar 14, 2013 12:31 pm Of course it's personal choice Carak, but I think you do need a big bedroom? Or at least one that will fit your furniture (particularly the bed!) in without you constantly having to squeeze past things. We've never had a big enough master bedroom so we're rectifying that with our new build and the dimensions will be 5.2 x 4.1 plus ensuite/WIR. That could be overkill but I'd rather have more room than less ... My Hamptons build (completed): viewtopic.php?f=31&t=63370 Moved in Wednesday 11th Dec 2013 Front landscaping completed June 2016 Re: Master Bedroom - What size? 3Mar 14, 2013 12:42 pm That sounds like a well-sized room to me. It will depend on whether you want it to be a parents retreat type space (ie will you need extra room for furniture) or is it a place for a bed and a couple of pieces of furniture? That is bigger than our current bedroom (which is roughly 4x4m)and we have enough room for a KS bed, bedside tables and a tallboy. I'm sure you will like the extra length of the room, 5.4m is actually quite long. That does not include the ensuite or the WIR. We have a super king size bed - so even bigger than a king sized bed, plus two bedsides and we will still have quite a bit of room on either side. Just don't want to have to 'squeeze' past something to get into bed CluelessOne That sounds like a well-sized room to me. No, CluelessOne, no parent retreat, just bed, bedside tables and perhaps like you a tallboy, hopefully the WIR will have enough room for everything else. Yes 5.4 is long but just a bit unsure about the width, hopefully it will all balance out. travisaus 3.8 is maybe a little small for a main IMO (that's really a queen bed, and 2 side tables plus 30cm either side) but the 5.4 makes up for it for sure. No issues with size there! Yes travisaus, the 3.8 is the part that concerns me but as you say, 5.4 should make up for it. Jen1977 Ours is going to be 4.5 x 4.5m. Hi Jen, o.k. you have put my mind at rest.. I have always thought that a Master Bedroom should never have the number 3 in the size (especially when you are building a home that is over 36sq) but I think I am becoming a bit paranoid, just want our new house to be perfect (just like everyone else who builds a house) Thanks everyone really appreciated your comments. Re: Master Bedroom - What size? 7Mar 14, 2013 2:59 pm Our master bedroom is 4x4.5 which doesn't include the WIR or ensuite. This ensures a comfortable fit for our queen bed, bedside tables, dresser and recliner in a corner. Re: Master Bedroom - What size? 8Mar 14, 2013 4:51 pm Our last house which was a Mac Jones house the master was 4.0 x 3.9m and it was fine. We sacrificed a bit of width to make the WIR wider. As long as your bed is on the longer wall there will be plenty of space for bed, bedside tables etc. good luck with your build! Re: Master Bedroom - What size? 10Mar 14, 2013 6:30 pm travisaus 3.8 is maybe a little small for a main IMO (that's really a queen bed, and 2 side tables plus 30cm either side) but the 5.4 makes up for it for sure. No issues with size there! Hah-hah! Stalked. In answer to the original question, our current room is 3.8m or so deep, by 2.7m wide. Without furniture the depth would be fine, but the tallboy makes the room a bit short; and for width it's got 50cm wide bedside tables either side of a queen bed with probably only 1cm between everything; it's a little narrow, I'd probably want 3m width at least. So the size in the original post sounds fine, although check there's a good spot to place everything. Our new bedroom will be 3.8 x 4.2, it's plenty big enough for us (unlikely to have any seats or anything beyond the bed & bedside-tables. Re: Master Bedroom - What size? 11Mar 14, 2013 7:01 pm Our master will be 5.1 x 4.9. My wife wanted a bigger room as our last house was 3.3 x 3.3 and it was too freaking small. Re: Master Bedroom - What size? 12Mar 23, 2013 6:06 pm Our current master is 3.2 x 3.6. We have the bed on the long wall and the foot of the bed is opposite the ensuite / WIR door. This size is just big enough for a queen bed, two bedside tables and two chests of draws but not much else. The WIR (1.5 x 1.2) and ensuite (1.5 x 3) are both tiny. The WIR is too small and the ensuite is just workable. In our new place our bedroom will be 5.5m bx 3.63m with a desk/dresser nook that is an additional 1.55m x 1m. The WIR is 1.65m x 3.63m and the ensuite is 3.63m x 2.6m. The first house I owned in had a main bedroom that was 3.2 x 3m with no BIR and that was just ridiculously small. Re: Master Bedroom - What size? 13Mar 23, 2013 8:57 pm Ours is 5.5x5.5 - which is plenty big enough to house our oversized bedroom furniture (king bed, two bedsides, large double chest of drawers plus wing armchair). Our WIR is 3.5x3.5 and ensuite is approx 5.5m x 4.5m. Some things are worth waiting for. Thank you so much. This has been very helpful.
