Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Our Journey With Taylor's Estate,Caversham and Redink - 63Apr 27, 2013 12:36 am Mandy, I would make your bir's 1800mm wide rather than 1500mm. That is dead space where you open the door so you might as well make the robes as wide as possible. Re: Our Journey With Taylor's Estate,Caversham and Redink - 64Apr 27, 2013 1:11 am this shower bathroom is exactly what my dream is...so big and so luxury, 7.5M Dual Frontage terrace @ lightsview SA /viewtopic.php?f=31&t=58754 moved in - April 2014 furnitured - August 2014 home theatre - September 2014 Game room - December 2013 moved in - 09 April 2014 Re: Our Journey With Taylor's Estate,Caversham and Redink - 65Apr 27, 2013 1:24 am Hi Rex, will have a look at that tomorrow (just home from the police station as my husband was assaulted on the way home tonight!! He's ok, wounded pride as much as anything else. The sooner this house is built and we get out of midland the better). We have already increased them, can't remember what they were originally, probably 1200 I should think. Thanks for the input. Frozenkuku, I assume you're talking about the photos? That's not my bathroom, unfortunately! they are lovely aren't they? I am looking forward to the little bit of luxury we will have, but wish it was a bigger room - at least big enough for a towel rail, haha! Re: Our Journey With Taylor's Estate,Caversham and Redink - 66Apr 27, 2013 2:12 am I can't think of anything I would change, looks awesome! good work once again to Jamie haha I love your concept of the walk in shower, the finer details are always the hard bit though It's so hard imagining walls etc around to you to figure out how long the glass needs to be but looking at the photos SB put up it will look good either way, maybe just base it on how much you splash around water in the shower haha for me I'd need it as long as possible...water would end up everywhere PS. Hope your hubby is all good!! Midland can be a tad scary...had my best mate call me a few weeks ago freaking out because she had to go there in corporate clothing and she was being abused for wearing heels by the "locals" Re: Our Journey With Taylor's Estate,Caversham and Redink - 67Apr 28, 2013 12:03 am Hi Rex, we decided to leave the wardrobes at 1500. We don't want it to feel too small in there, and the space we have in that part of the room means we could put something there - a shelf, or a narrow set of drawers or something, if we want. There's only the two of us, and I think 1500 will be acceptable should we sell to a family at some point. Plus we'd have to pay extra for the soffit and the doors, so 1500 it is! Thanks kat. I actually think there are quite a lot of shortcomings to the plan - you don't realise until you look into the finer details, like what size windows to have and where to put them. But we've got all the rooms we want and it fits our block, which fits our budget! So there you are! having said that, I wish that we hadn't decided on a plan so early (of course, we didn't know we would have so many delays with the land!) as we might well design a different house now. Never mind, next time!! We went to some displays today - including the second picture that sb posted! and we have decided to go with the nib and the glass that we've already signed off. We are also going to ask if we can change the windows in bed 3 slightly - move the full length window so that it's right next to the 1900 one on the same wall. Hopefully It won't be a problem. What else? Oh yeah, going to ask if can bring the window in the bathroom down to the bath hob and make it clear - originally wanted it clear then bottled out! But I think I will be nice - more light, and a view when you're in the bath ( as long as that room's not overlooked!) we will put a nice light blind on it. And also we want to make the toilet window a bit bigger and make it clear - again, more light when the blind is up. We are both great lovers of natural light, and I really like to see the outside, even if I'm just passing by. I hate this thing we have here where everyone lives behind shut blinds! I understand it, because of the heat, but I open my blinds whenever I can, I have to see the outside world! Re: Our Journey With Taylor's Estate & Redink - decision hel 68May 05, 2013 10:35 am Hi, We went to see some more show homes last week, and both really liked the sort of milky glass doors that you can get for linen cupboards (like in the Redink house in harrisdale). However, Redink want too much money for the upgrade. We have currently chosen vinyl sliders for the hallway cupboards. We also liked the mirrored ones - we saw them in another display home. But i can't decide whether to change to mirrored or stick with the vinyl? Any thoughts anyone? Mirrored would possibly lift the space, maybe make it feel a bit lighter and a bit bigger, but could show hand marks? (Although we have no kids or pets, it's just the two of us), and would it feel weird being able to see someone (ie yourself!) walking with you down the corridor?! And would it look like a giant wardrobe? We are having mirrored wardrobes and at the moment vinyl in the laundry but we could change that to mirrored too. We are going to ask about putting a sliding door on the laundry, so if we do that the laundry linen doesn't have to have the same doors as the hallway cupboards. Maybe vinyl will actually get dirtier than glass, as it will show dirt from hands rather than just finger prints? Thanks guys. ps: Redink referred to the milky glass ones as glasskote, so I rang the company in landsdale called glasskote, but they said they only do splashbacks. Strange... Re: Our Journey With Taylor's Estate,Caversham and Redink - 69May 05, 2013 1:14 pm We like the vinyl look. We got Swan Lake color which is off whitish. We got mirrored robes in the bedrooms because they obviously are mirrors but also to make the rooms more open. In the laundry these two things aren't an issue. It depends where they are for you but we only have the linen in the laundry. Btw our siteworks start this Thursday. Hopefully it rains only at night. Re: Our Journey With Taylor's Estate,Caversham and Redink - 70May 10, 2013 1:12 am I've seen plenty of laundries with the mirrored sliding doors and they make it look bigger and brighter! I finally remembered where I had seen the coloured glass doors recently!! Get a quote from Lifestyle Wardrobes as they had a great selection of doors when we went in to get our WIR quoted! Re: Our Journey With Taylor's Estate,Caversham and Redink - 71May 10, 2013 8:35 am We have mirrored sliding doors in our laundry, and I love them !! in our laundry they looked so much better than the vinyl. Redink used ikon glass in our house, but lifestyle wardrobes also have milky glass for the sliding doors as well. Building again . . with Redink Pre-start 04/12 Keys - 03/13 Finishing off. . . We hand the choice of mirror, vinyl or glass as standard and went with the milky greenish coloured glass. We also could pick laminex or Formica colours for the kitchen and bathroom. But on the other hand our builder still uses plastic floor wastes as standard and doors on wardrobes isn't standard! It's no surprise we have trouble comparing builders!! Re: Our Journey With Taylor's Estate,Caversham and Redink - 73May 12, 2013 10:49 pm Hi Mandy67, we're thinking of going the hobless shower with the pane of glass, just wondering what Redink are going to charge you? Re: Our Journey With Taylor's Estate,Caversham and Redink - 74May 13, 2013 10:55 am Hello everyone, sorry for the delays in responding, I assumed I would get notifications when someone responded to my own posts, but apparently not! And I thought nobody cared, lol! We chose swan lake too. But from the other responses I'm leaning towards mirrored now - thanks all for input. am a bit worried in a sort of feng shui type of way I think! Worried it will feel funny seeing someone in my peripheral vision walking down the corridor with me! but also I do think they will make it look bigger, and might actually get less dirty - will just show fingerprints whereas vinyl might show dirty marks. Will it just look like a gigantic wardrobe, and will it put people off when we come to sell? Oh, how we torture ourselves with these things! I am still going to keep vinyl in the laundry though I think. We are going to put a sliding door on the laundry, so you won't be able to see that the laundry cupboard door and those in the hallway don't match. Re the hobless and the glass pane I can't remember how much the hobless was, I think around $1,500 or $1,700? But that was a year or more ago so it could be less (or more) now. But that includes all showers in the house. The glass is I think $768? That's for about a metre of glass. I'm off sick at the moment and can't move about much, but if I rally I'll find the paperwork and give you more accurate info. Yeh it amazes me what some builders don't have as standard as well, especially ones like Redink who class themselves a bit above some of the others. My friends built with dream start (who they would never recommend btw!) and I'm sure they got kitchen wall cupboards included, whereas Redink charge a lot for those. Oh well. I suppose I would at the end of the day rather have the better service and the better basic quality build than lots of inclusions but bad customer service, poor workmanship, etc.! Re: Our Journey With Taylor's Estate,Caversham and Redink - 75May 13, 2013 10:58 am Oh, one more thing, kat, what ballpark are you looking at for fitting out wardrobes? Is it like a few hundred per wir, or like a thousand or more? We've been doing our sums and have only put in $500 per wardrobe. Re: Our Journey With Taylor's Estate,Caversham and Redink - 76May 13, 2013 11:36 am hello we are only doing our master WIR which is 3000...ouch! this includes drawers and a mirror door with shoe shelves behind it though! I saw someone else's and if you replace the drawers with shelves you can do a minor bed robe for 500! Re: Our Journey With Taylor's Estate,Caversham and Redink - 77May 13, 2013 11:39 am Holy cr@p kat! We wouldn't want mirrored doors but still, I think our $500 each is slightly under budgeted lol! I don't necessarily want mine fitted out anyway, but the other half wants his done. He might have to wait! Re: Our Journey With Taylor's Estate,Caversham and Redink - 78May 13, 2013 11:45 am just looked at your plans again and i reckon you could get away with 1000-1500 all up for your master if you have shelves instead of drawers! only takes the guy a couple days to get a quote back to you which lasts for 3 months then he wants a 50% deposit which i think is a bit steep...we haven't paid ours yet, going to wait for the walls to go up so we can get a feel for the room and see if we like the layout Re: Our Journey With Taylor's Estate,Caversham and Redink - 79May 13, 2013 12:01 pm Cheers kat. I'll leave it a bit longer to get a quote, seeing as we still don't have freakin titles yet! but it's definitely good to have the figures you've given me, thanks. Re: Our Journey With Taylor's Estate,Caversham and Redink - 80May 13, 2013 1:46 pm We have the same layout to yours, ours are a little smaller and ours cost not much over $1000. He made our shelving the right width do if we want to add draws later we can just contact them. We have a large set of draws so probably won't bother. I hope your feeling better soon!!
