Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 16, 2013 10:53 pm Hello Everyone, I have been reading many post since I came across this forum last week and have found it very useful. Especially the thread 'things you forget'. It definitely made us look through the plans again and ring the builder in regards to a few queries. So I thought we would start contributing and sharing our journey with you all. Let us know what you think and any advice would be warmly welcomed! My husband and I are building our first home in Campbelltown Adelaide. Our Builder is Clairville homes and has been a fantastic experience so far. Slab should be poured in the next few weeks!! Our build thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=60755 Re: FIRST TIMERS building our first home in SA 3Mar 17, 2013 3:59 am also love your plans what color is your freestanding bath, what a great idea for the timber front windows too Re: FIRST TIMERS building our first home in SA 4Mar 17, 2013 8:00 am Superb plan, especially the main bedroom suite and layout for the second and third bedrooms. Will be a lovely house. I'd love timber windows at the front too, but I'd be concerned about maintenance and the need to repaint every few years. If you are handy and can do it yourself shouldn't be a problem.
Re: FIRST TIMERS building our first home in SA 5Mar 17, 2013 10:13 am Looks great, can't wait to see it take shape. We are having a semi freestanding bath so interested to see how yours will look. What colours have you chosen for the ensuite? Re: FIRST TIMERS building our first home in SA 6Mar 17, 2013 12:21 pm That's a beautiful plan with great use of space. If anything I would suggest maybe extending the nib walls of your master WIR to hide the clothes/shoes a bit more.... How big is your fridge recess? Big enough for a larger scale fridge? Are you going to have an under-mount sink to utilize your island bench space (can't tell from the plan..)? My Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=62841 Re: FIRST TIMERS building our first home in SA 8Mar 18, 2013 12:27 am Thank you for all your kind words, I must say I fought hard to have the plan the way it is. So pleased to hear people like the layout, can't wait to see it come to life! RagnarsWife I like how you designed master bedroom+ wir and ensuite with freestanding bath!!! would love to see it when it's done what direction your house is facing? Front of the house is facing south west 1rocky also love your plans what color is your freestanding bath, what a great idea for the timber front windows too Freestanding bath is white (caroma aura 1800), my husband wanted the timber windows he felt it would finish the look off. _lucinda Superb plan, especially the main bedroom suite and layout for the second and third bedrooms. If you are handy and can do it yourself shouldn't be a problem. Yeah we considered the upkeep on the windows, but my hubby is handy wih that sort of thing so hopefully not a problem. FairmontSAcustom Looks great, can't wait to see it take shape. We are having a semi freestanding bath so interested to see how yours will look. What colours have you chosen for the ensuite? We have chosen gem pearl porcelain tile (grayish with veining) and have a charcoal feature wall behind the bath, white stone bench. I will upload some pictures of selections soon. What colours were you thinking of going with? What colour is your bath? emacleo0 Really like the flow of your home, your ensuite looks lovely! Are you going to have an under-mount sink to utilize your island bench space (can't tell from the plan..)? Fridge space allowed is 1 metre and we have moved it away from the WIP it is now on the other side near the doorway to bedroom hallway. Also we have upgraded to an undermount sink (Clark prism) to make use of the 900x2700 bench top we had the same thought about maximising bench space. As for nib walls i wanted the area to feel very open, that's why I left it exposed, I hope I don't regret it Apparently work is starting tomorrow, so should have some trench shots soon Building thread https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=63581&p=992445#p992445 Contracts signed: 8/11/12 Subdivision: 25/2/13 Settlement: 05/03/13 Work commenced:27/03/13 Slab: 11/04/13 Framing: 13/05/13 Roof: 31/05/13 Re: FIRST TIMERS building our first home in SA 9Mar 18, 2013 6:57 am your house design looks good how did you manage to get land at cambelltown? did you have to buy an established house and knock it down? nice area to live in, ideally if we had the money hubby would like to live in newton. hope your build goes well. h Re: FIRST TIMERS building our first home in SA 10Mar 18, 2013 7:34 am The bath we are having is the Caroma Cube (1800). I was going to have a freestanding bath but then my husband pointed out that cleaning behind the bath may be an issue. So I did some research and saw the semi freestanding bath and thought perfect compromise. Colour choice is similar to yours. Thinking black floor tile and black feature tile behind bath. Other wall tiles will be white. This is my thread if you want to have a look. I have a posted a pic of a bathroom with the 'look' I am going for. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=63538 Re: FIRST TIMERS building our first home in SA 11Mar 18, 2013 8:04 am Thank you!! We actually approached our builder who owned the land. Asked if he would subdivide and build for us. So it was right time right place situation and here we are! We were looking for houses in newton but was very expensive at the time. Ill check it out! I've never even heard of a semi free standing bath?? Because we thought that and i was abit worried about cleaning but we have a bit of room around the bath to be able to clean. But this semi freestanding bath sounds the way to go. I like the black wall and floor feature tile idea. We were going to put the feature title we have behind on bath on the floor but they wanted so much to upgrade so we've decided to do matching mosaic behind the sink instead. Re: FIRST TIMERS building our first home in SA 13Mar 18, 2013 8:47 am We are also having timber windows but throughout the house, eeek. If you haven't already talk to your builder about whether they will treat them before or after they go on site. With negotiation our builder has arranged for the painter to visit the supplier to treat them before they go onsite. Your bathroom colours sound lovely. Don't you just hate how much every little extra thing costs though? The main reason we chose Fairmont was that by building with them we could afford most of the ahem 'little' extras that we wanted. I looked at Clairville and they looked awesome! I looked at Clairville and they looked awesome! Wow the whole house that will look great. Yeah Its important that they get treated. I am pretty sure from memory the builder said that they come treated and get treated once in aswell but I may just double check that. I will upload bathroom tile choice, I hope they look good, its so hard to know. It can feel like every little thing is an upgrade We were lucky that our builder offered mostly everything we wanted as standard and have been very reasonable when we did want those little extra things. If you go with a good builder its not so bad but still, I guess that's where they make their money. Just have to make sure we keep on top of them Building thread https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=63581&p=992445#p992445 Contracts signed: 8/11/12 Subdivision: 25/2/13 Settlement: 05/03/13 Work commenced:27/03/13 Slab: 11/04/13 Framing: 13/05/13 Roof: 31/05/13 Re: FIRST TIMERS building our first home in SA 15Mar 18, 2013 10:18 pm Dirt arrive today and work starts tomorrow on the block YAAAYYYYYY Interior choices: These are our bathroom tiles we are using the feature tile underneath the mirror in the ensuite and main bathroom. We are almost your neighbours... well you are closer to our neighbours than most others, we are building in auldana. I have a friend that is currently building with Clairville as well, they are in beaumont, I know they were really happy with the quote they got. Yes charred oak, I haven't seen it done before so I hope it looks good so nice to hear your happy with it. I love doing selection but must admit i get a bit nervous when I haven't seen it finished! Yes clairville have been incredible and we are so happy to be building with them! We have family that have built with them and their houses are beautiful. Re: FIRST TIMERS building our first home in SA 18Mar 19, 2013 7:24 pm I love the alfresco tile. I am thinking of going for a light tile outside too. My friend has black butt floors and they are stunning. We are having bamboo as direct interiors don't supply timber flooring. If they did I would prob choose Black butt. Yeah I think a light tile makes the space look a bit bigger. Bamboo looks really nice aswell. What bamboo colour have you selected?
