I'd recommend adding this to your wish list to, my walk in pantry aka fave room in the house Re: FH's Custom Build in SA- WIP Pics 834May 06, 2014 7:29 pm I've already got one of those on the list after falling in love with my next door neighbours Building the Leabrook with Fairmont Homes in Mallala, SA. That's on my wishlist for sure - great job For info on our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43093 Built the McLaren by Dechellis - slab down 22 Feb - handover 30 Aug 2011 - and gardens finished 9 Dec 2012!! Re: FH's Custom Build in SA- WIP Pics 837May 07, 2014 10:08 am I know, it leads to the garage so it's very practical in so many ways. I can dump groceries from the car there, kids leave there bags, there is no window so great for storage of fruit/veg. Plus I can leave my mixers out so I can use them without having to take them out the cupboard. I made a cake in there the other day and it was so easy. Means I can have my kitchen for 'display'/cooking and washing while the mess stays in the pantry behind Other things I love about our plan. Having the formal lounge and our bedroom at the front which gives us a parents retreat when the kids get older and somewhere else to watch tv if hubbie and I want to watch something different. Flush cavity sliding doors, they are awesome, can close off a space and you don't even know that they are there. Having big bedrooms for the kids, all their toys are in there and they love going in there to play. When friends visit they take them in there to play so I can chat with the mum in the kitchen which is toy/kid free. Wheely bugs are great ride ons for wooden floors. Our huge dining table, this is the hub of our house. The layout, every room in our house is big and spacious but the layout makes every room very accessible. Storage, oh my goodness we have so much of it and boy do I use it! Being able to watch tv from the kitchen and be part of parties. Ducted heating that we can zone, we only use it in one zone, ie kitchen and it heats the rumpus as well. I think the insulation helps and hopefully keep costs down. Huge bath, had a soak in it the other night, so nice. Built in ironing board, awesome! The three towel rails in the bathroom, stunning feature and so practical. Washing line outside the laundry and tucked away so not seen by visitors. Gas hotplate, the only way to go. Bigger oven so I can cook trays side by side. What would I change? Having the bathroom accessed by guests next to the kids room. It means if we have people over at night and they go to the toilet they have to walk next to the kids room which is ok but I would prefer to keep noise down near their bedrooms. Although we have north facing living area we are not getting quite enough light in but I can fix this with skylights when I have money. Re: FH's Custom Build in SA- WIP Pics 838May 07, 2014 10:33 am Sounds like you've got it all covered!! You've done a great job. Re: FH's Custom Build in SA- WIP Pics 839May 07, 2014 11:31 am I'm so glad it worked out so well for you. Great planning has paid off. Shame about the bathroom access, but, hey, there had to be something. Your pantry is awesome. Re: FH's Custom Build in SA- WIP Pics 840May 07, 2014 11:32 am I am soooo jealous of your WIP... Most "standard" WIP I dont really care about and see them more of a waste of floorspace, when a good well designed cupboard would do the trick just as well. But yours, incorporating the garage access, a functional bench for all those messy items that we have, like bags, umbrellas, small appliances etc is just fantastic. I agree re: the zoned reverse cycle, one thing I love and so glad we are having. Big bath & big oven, (with Gas hotplate) glad we've done that too! I do wish I had more storage, one thing I prefer about our custom plan over the one we chose, BUT - we are doing an attic conversion, (size of a 2nd bedroom with shelving) & some retractable stairs to a manhole in the garage, so we can store all our not frequently accessed items in there and not clutter the garage and linen cupboards. We have a good/decent roof pitch and design to support it, but it is an extra cost! So yeah, I love your already accounted for storage! haha Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=66299 Slab: 16/6/14 Frame: 4/7/14 Roof: 22/7/14 Lock Up: 20/8/14 Fixing: 26/8/14 PCI: 9/10/14 Handover: 20/10/14 I'd get the gutters to match your roof and pipes to match the paint - otherwise they become a feature.
