Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 12, 2013 11:21 pm I have been watching this forum since we started the building process last November. I am providing info about our experiences that may interest others. We've really enjoyed reading through others' experiences. We bought a block with an existing asbestos house that we have demolished to build a new house on. We signed the Prelim Agreement on the 17th November 2012. We had the interior designer meeting on the 14th Feb (invaluable) and prestart on the 18th Feb. We received the final plans last Friday to which we have had to correct a few things and add of couple more things. Hopefully, the plans will get to council this week and site works can begin maybe mid April - we'll see.
So far the process has been smooth. I can't rate William Scates the salesman highly enough for his professionalism and constant help. He would answer my emails within 2 minutes late on a Saturday night. Attached is my floor plan. I will update the progress of our house regularly. http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y521/rex7777777/FloorPlan-page-001_zps5442aae2.jpg Re: Building new home with Redink 2Mar 13, 2013 12:04 am Welcome Rex. I have to agree the Sales and Service from Redink in the pre build satage has been great in our experience. I look forward to following your build. Our build thread with Redink 11/1 - Prestart 5/4 - Slab 29/4 - Brickwork 27/5 - Roof Cover 20/6 - Lock Up 20/8 - PCI 10/9 - Handover Re: Building new home with Redink 3Mar 13, 2013 9:33 pm Hi Rex, we are nearly ready for handover with our Redink Home and its been a really great experience...a few minor issues here and there but nothing too bad in the grand scheme of things. Our CLO, site supervisor and sales lady have been great. I would definitely build with them again but i would ask more questions are pre start this time....probably my only very minor gripe was that our prestart consultant didn't offer up a lot of suggestions on things we would have probably upgraded if we had known they weren't that much more than the standard item (we could have also researched more before prestart). Goodluck with your build. My Thread viewtopic.php?f=31&t=63545 Re: Building new home with Redink 5Mar 13, 2013 10:04 pm Yes, the prestart lady didn't offer us a lot either, but we didn't expect her to....she ran through options quickly and you're right she didn't tell us the prices unless we asked. Some things, as you say were cheap to upgrade. The ideas we got for this house have come from previous experience (our current home we built with Ross North), this website, display homes and friends. We had a very good idea of what we wanted before we saw the interior design lady and the prestart lady. If we went into those meetings clueless, a whole day wouldn't have sufficed. The garage is nice and big because one, we have a boat and we have had to park the other car outside for the last 7 years. Two, because the standard 6m just isn't enough. Our current house has the 6x6 size and the family car barely squeezes in. With a garage 7m long and that is the inside length there is enough room to easily open the entrance door and go around the back and get things from the hatch. We love our linen size as well. So much better than the store room we have now. Re: Building new home with Redink 6Mar 14, 2013 7:19 am plans are fantastic having the extra garage is a great idea . we also went for the extra garage as we have three cars and need more space then there are the surfboards and extra junk we have just behind the wardrobe bed 2 noticed space are you thinking of adding more storage there Re: Building new home with Redink 7Mar 14, 2013 12:25 pm I lurvvvvve your laundry and your linen space. I've seen a few laundry's like yours and they just work so well as your not wasting any space like you do with a WIL . Wish we could of done our laundry like that but was impossible with the design. Nice big alfresco , so good ....you have to have that. Great design! Good luck with your build Re: Building new home with Redink 8Mar 14, 2013 1:27 pm Hi 1rocky. the recessed bit behind bed2 BIR is for a buffet. It originally wasn't there and the BIR was deep but that was wasted space so we pushed that wall back to create the recessed bit. Re: Building new home with Redink 10Mar 14, 2013 3:01 pm No the buffet is stand alone. We've had it for years and we'll just slot it in there when we move in. Re: Building new home with Redink 11Mar 14, 2013 3:18 pm Thanks Belle22! We love the laundry too. We have a walk in storage room atm and it is such a waste of space. That's why we removed WIRs in the kids rooms and replaced them with the sliding robes too. Cant wait for building to start! Re: Building new home with Redink 13Mar 14, 2013 5:08 pm Really like your plan, great alfresco size and lots of linen space in laundry. Good luck with the build! My Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=62841 Re: Building new home with Redink 14Mar 17, 2013 6:00 pm Looks like our house won't have a slab down until the end of April. I can't take this anymore. Can anyone out there (especially redinkers) tell me how long it took from signing final plans to building permit to site works to slab? Re: Building new home with Redink 15Mar 17, 2013 8:27 pm Have they given you a reason for the delay? Our prestart was early sept, on 21 sept I had some final documents sign (some amendments think...it was the day before my wedding so I remember the date). the building permit came through mid oct and They started work on getting the slab down on 27th Oct. My Thread viewtopic.php?f=31&t=63545 Re: Building new home with Redink 16Mar 17, 2013 8:33 pm Ill hopefully get some details/dates tomorrow about my build as we are at the same stage. We have our building permit and are in scheduling! Hopefully don't have to wait til the end of April though Re: Building new home with Redink 17Mar 17, 2013 9:41 pm Congratulations - lovely plan. Love the alfresco area and living areas! I am building with redink as well - prestart in a week! Feel you pain about all of the waiting. Dont want to hijack - but can anyone give me any advice about redinks prestart and things they would have upgraded in hindsight? Re: Building new home with Redink 18Mar 17, 2013 9:49 pm Hi asj25...I really wished we upgraded to a bigger bath tub! My Thread viewtopic.php?f=31&t=63545 Re: Building new home with Redink 19Mar 17, 2013 10:51 pm rex777 Looks like our house won't have a slab down until the end of April. I can't take this anymore. Can anyone out there (especially redinkers) tell me how long it took from signing final plans to building permit to site works to slab? This stage is the most frustrating that's for sure. We signed with Celebration on the 30th Oct 2012, prestart was just before Christmas , final plans were signed off at the end of Jan ( Xmas break didn't help), building permit came through mid Feb , and we got a slab on the 9th March. Our builder told us its around 3- 4 weeks from building permit to slab, which was what happened. Having said that we really thought we would have a slab by mid Feb, that's what our expectation was. That's the thing with expectations when it doesn't happen, it's so disappointing , which turns into frustrations !! I can't complain too much as Celebration are pretty fast with there preconstruction compared to other builders. There seems to be a few Redinkers on here so I'm sure they will be able to help you out more. Hang in there, it will be worth it. Re: Building new home with Redink 20Mar 17, 2013 11:00 pm Hi asj25. We have upgraded everything that we could think of that was worth doing. And only because we have looked at the plans again and again and again over several months. We had a list of things included before prestart as well as at prestart. There are around 100 odd items so I can't go through all of them but here are some that stand out. A lot of things you can see on our floor plan. Extended mosaic tiles in showers and under mirrors. Upgrading shower heads to hand helds/rail type. Upgrading rangehood because the standard and upgrade of theirs have bad specs and reviews. Leaving all flooring, wall painting and extra paving for later as their prices are more than double the normal rate. Having plasterboard ceiling to afresco. Not putting downlights in ($200 each is what they charge!!). Just put in junction boxes and do it after handover. The same with fans we want in alfresco. Conduits with wall plates on single walls where you want ethernet or antenna cables. Double walls of course don't need them. I'm doing this cabling myself. Get longer bath tub for $45 more. Get stone cladding at top of portico rather than wood. Looks better and will last forever. Was $1100 upgrade though. The prestart room has a nice area with all the different fittings. Make sure you ask price price price. Don't expect the lady to offer too much advice, she hasn't got the time. You need to know mostly what you want before the interview. Any ideas that go in your head, write them down straight away so you don't forget them. Have you looked in the 'things you forget' thread in this website. Have you met with the interior designer yet? If you haven't you should but it might be too late now to book one in. You need a whole day with them and you can sort most of the stuff colours, tiles, fittings then. We spent from 930 to 1700 one day with the interior designer and 930 to 1530 with the prestart. In the end upgrade things that would be a pain or impossible to do later. Don't skimp too much. Ideally you would engage a landscaper to give you some insight what they may need in the space to make your vision come to life… 1 13769 I ended up going with 'Andrew Belic Construction Co.' https://www.instagram.com/andrewbelicconstruction/ 2 59770 Hmmm, I have checked your past posts and it seems that you are in NSW, not WA as I had thought. It pays to show your State in your avatar. Retaining wall regulations… 5 7937 |
