Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 11, 2013 9:56 pm Hi Everyone We bought 35 acres land over a year ago, 30km out of Hervey Bay, QLD. Its cleared in the middle, with some natural bush around and we just love it We found a builder, after looking around for over six months now, signed the contract and just waiting for the bank to do the valuation of our existing house we live in now and the new land and construction Hopefully everything goes well and we get the loan approved quickly. Its a waiting game now so I thought, while waiting, I will show you some pictures of our land and share the design with you Its pretty much custom design and we can still make some changes there. Any thoughts? The store room will be my studio and the study is our office. We also plan to put an additional fridge and freezer in there as the property is 30km out of Hervey Bay so the big grocery shopping will be done just once a week or so.. The first thing I notice is you're lacking a lot of bench space in the kitchen. Any chance you can run the island bench with a right angle and still have two entry points to the kitchen? I love the usage of the garage into storage and pantry. We too are on acreage and have no need for a double garage, due to large shedding. The ensuite looks quite small as well. Any chance you can open that up a little, maybe moving the bed 1 wall back a little? If it's just the both of you then you should be spoiling yourself. You've got the land Please take this as constructive, and not a go at your design in anyway. It's really refreshing to see something different. Thanks, Scott. I appreciate it very much. We definitely will have a think about the bench space. Its nearly double the size we have now so I thought we will be fine. There is not much we can do with the ensuite without making the house bigger except we do these two other bedrooms smaller.... hmm.... I have to think about it as a larger ensuite would definitely be nice Live Love Lough Building thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=74918 Building blog: http://uniquebyeva.com.au/ourhome/ Our food forest blog: http://www.foodforestcookery.com Re: Our New Home Journey in Hervey Bay, QLD 9Mar 14, 2013 10:05 am the idea of a larger ensuite is good if not try to make your shower larger by going across the wall, great custom design and lovely block of land you live in a great part of australia. have visited harvey bay and loved it Re: Our New Home Journey in Hervey Bay, QLD 10Mar 14, 2013 7:16 pm 1rocky the idea of a larger ensuite is good if not try to make your shower larger by going across the wall, great custom design and lovely block of land you live in a great part of australia. have visited harvey bay and loved it Thank you rocky Yes, we love Hervey Bay, used to live at the Gold Coast but it was too busy for us Live Love Lough Building thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=74918 Building blog: http://uniquebyeva.com.au/ourhome/ Our food forest blog: http://www.foodforestcookery.com Re: Our New Home Journey in Hervey Bay, QLD 11Apr 12, 2013 10:00 am Now that's what I call a pantry! I'd be increasing kitchen bench size also. What an absolutely beautiful block you have. http://www.housebythewater.wordpress.com From blank block to new home in Mandurah, Western Australia. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65564 Re: Our New Home Journey in Hervey Bay, QLD 12Apr 13, 2013 2:35 pm housebythewater Now that's what I call a pantry! It looks like we will start with building a shed before we go on with the house as we cannot move into the house without a big shed 18m x 9m, so this is our priority now We are going to sign the contract for the shed construction next week I love the ideas in your blog. Love your pantry and huge family space. Hi Lucinda We live in Kawungan now. What made you move out of Hervey Bay? We love this area Do you have a building thread already? xo Yep, we loved it too, but work moved us away. It was quite some time ago, and things have changed since we were there. We lived in Richard Street and often walked our dog to the water. I haven't started a thread, I just annoy other people. We are currently waiting for the engineering report and when we have that we will make our colour selections appointment--it'll seem real then. Will you be living in the shed while your new home is being built? Re: Our New Home Journey in Hervey Bay, QLD 14Apr 14, 2013 1:18 pm Quote: Yep, we loved it too, but work moved us away. Will you be living in the shed while your new home is being built? Yes, thats the plan Lucinda, and the best solution for us. We build the shed, sell our existing house and move to the shed while the new house is being built. It will also save us time and money driving to the construction site as we will be already there and can have an eye on it Live Love Lough Building thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=74918 Building blog: http://uniquebyeva.com.au/ourhome/ Our food forest blog: http://www.foodforestcookery.com Re: Our New Home Journey in Hervey Bay, QLD 16May 07, 2013 7:59 am TinaG beautiful block sebeva Thank you Tina Yes, we love it. Re: Our New Home Journey in Hervey Bay, QLD 18May 24, 2013 8:14 pm After another good couple of weeks, we finally got the concrete slab! I just post few photos here, please check my blog if you want to see more If I can give you any advise, please check the materials delivered to your block and compare it with your plans. The reinforcement mesh which has been delivered to our place was to thin..... Well we asked of course for an exchange. They delivered the right mesh and took the other one back without any discussions... Here some pictures. I think they done a really nice job We are very happy. Finally, something is happening. How did you know the mesh was too thin? Re: Our New Home Journey in Hervey Bay, QLD 20May 25, 2013 9:12 am _lucinda Looks really smooth and lovely. How did you know the mesh was too thin? We got the plans and a list of all materials included according to the engineering plans. There was the delivery paper on the mesh. I'm sorry to say but we don't trust them completely and are checking everything. My husband got also his special tool, I think it calls vernier caliper?? Check your plans, and if it says for example FS72, you can go to google and check the measurements of the mesh and compare. Funny enough, we also got the shed kit delivered the day after the concrete slab was ready. And guess what: the whole frame of the shed is size smaller than it is supposed to be.... The thickness of the alu columns are 1.9mm instead of 2.4mm (as per plans) which makes a huge difference to us..... You can imagine how we feel Of course mistakes can happen but second time in the row is a little too much for my taste We contacted the shed building company and it will be exchanged but.... .....My patience is being tested and this is just the beginning.....
