Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 09, 2013 10:14 am Hi there, Our builder has said the temporary electricity to our block has not been connected yet, and for Tuesday the bricklayers need it. So they've said we can: a) ask the neighbours (give them a slab of beer?) b) hire a generator for $400 p/w plus fuel c) delay until the electricity is connected potentially causing a contract extension & additional cost for hire items ????? Is this a normal request? Surely we should not have to pay for a generator or expect our neighbours to provide power - frankly I'd feel embarrassed. Considering the cost of the other options, $40 for a slab is worth it. You may even get to share a couple with your neighbours!! Re: Temp electricity to build site - whose responsibility? 3Mar 09, 2013 11:36 am Our builder contacted our neighbour, we didn't even know about it till they mentioned it! I think they gave them $50 1st build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=59376 *New*-2nd build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70324&p=1154282#p1154282 Re: Temp electricity to build site - whose responsibility? 4Mar 09, 2013 11:41 am with us before construction had started we were asked to contact our electricity provider lt them know were were building and ask for a connection number . we then gave this number to the builder and he did the rest. no problems at all no hold ups this is for NSW Re: Temp electricity to build site - whose responsibility? 5Mar 09, 2013 2:57 pm Was anything mentioned in your contract about who pays for electricity? You can try the neighbour but not all neighbours are willing. I know ours asked the builder to sign a contract before they would allow them to use the electricity. Re: Temp electricity to build site - whose responsibility? 6Mar 09, 2013 6:20 pm Thanks for everyone's responses. In the contract it says 'temporary power supply for building purposes is the responsibility of the builder provided the supply authority point is within 18 meters of the point of entry of the building works'. BUT then it says 'If power is not available the owner agrees to supply (at the owner's expense) a generator of 7.5 KVA capacity and also be responsible for the fueling of this unit'. So it would appear we are responsible even though it's not our fault the power didn't get connected in time. I wonder if the bricklayers will just get there, see no power and ask the neighbours anyway.
