Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 08, 2013 8:14 pm I bought a land in Sydney then started contacting with Rawson Home since Jan. As they normally do not work on Duplex, we felt very lucky to get John Tam's service. This sales person promised to give a draft drawing and roughly cost very soon. However, things turning to another side sharply. No updated at all in last 2 months. I am showed nothing so far. No reply for email or voice message. Only words I received is "I am so busy recently. I am working on your plan". Feeling discouraging and considering to change a builder. Any one have any recommendations? Re: Desperate even on the first step of house building 2Mar 08, 2013 8:44 pm Rawson refused to do my BIL's duplex, a few years ago before they got so busy. Additionally, not sure if we were talking with the same salesguy you're dealing with; but if it was, he told us some stuff which was quite patently wrong when we looked-up the relevant legislation (ie. that ground-floor alfresco area had to be included in floorspace-ratio calculations under CDC rules - wrong!). I'd seriously be talking to other builders. I do not believe (and this is from personal experience with them but without wider experience with other builders) that Rawson are currently a good builder to use for anything that's not almost identical to one of their standard designs. I believe that few project-home builders are. IMHO you need to find one that either claims to do duplexes or custom builds ... to be fair maybe give John a chance to explain himself, but only give him a few days. I can't offer recommendations, but many people on this forum recommend Zac Homes for a custom build; although from what they say, ou do have to be 'pushy' and chase everything up regularly & frequently. I know Alkira Homes & Jandson Homes do custom builds, and Trevelle Homes has a couple of standard duplex designs.
