Yesterday morning was up at the house with hubby & the guy from the curtain/blinds place to get measured up and quoted. We want plantation shutters on all the front windows, motorised blinds on the back windows, drapes in the home theatre and manual blinds on in the other bedrooms. Here are a couple of swatches we were tossing up: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Those ones are translucent, for the family room allowing lights through and still able to see the view. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ This one is full blockout for the master bedroom. So, we got the quote back and almost died of a heart attack. I know plantation shutters aren't cheap (these are the Cedar ones) & I know we have a lot of windows. Still!! Guess it'll be happening in stages. At any rate the plantation shutters won't get done til next year because of cut off dates. The tile saga is still going on, hubby & I thought we might try and source the tiles ourselves locally. I found a place that has the grey in fill tile in stock (that's the one that's out of stock from original supplier), except this one is a slightly different tile and made in Portugal instead of China (a bonus if you ask me). The problem is as we already have the other tiles (the patterns and the border) this tile is 6mm whereas the other tiles are 8mm in height, so that's extra work for the tiler to align the 6mm ones with the rest. So plan A is to get him to agree to do that, or plan B is to get the builder to send back all the tiles we have and buy them all from this new guy. We shall see! Also, apparently tapware arrives today. That's been the hold up on the toilet plumbing. Woot! Beautiful I completely understand about the cost of blinds and plantation shutters. I received my quote last week and almost fell off my perch! We also have a lot of windows and stacker doors. I also wanted motorised blinds for our high louvrred windows the cost just blew me away, so never to be one deterred I've line up another quote and have been researching online. (Sigh) Good luck with your tile options. It's always good to have options The build - https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=67554 The Yard - viewtopic.php?f=19&t=67695 Re: Classic style weatherboard Melbourne - Window furnishing 444Nov 12, 2013 12:57 pm Thanks Kiakhan. I know, I can't believe it! Well, I can, but ... yeah. On top of everything else that you have to fork out for, it gets to the point where you start to feel slightly sick! It might be worth us getting another quote too. We got fed up with the first mob because we rang twice and each time they'd say someone would get back to us, and no one did, so we gave them the flick. It was annoying because waiting on them was what made us miss the deadline on plantation shutters. Good to know other people are going through similar issues. It's something we actually DIDN'T change that came standard, just changed from gold to chrome. Nice choice with the taps, we checked out the highview display home in the eastern suburbs and thought the taps just looked cheap - they weren't quite the right 'gold' colour. Bummer about the delays, guessing it will still be a while if the kitchen needs fitout still? Also noticed that the windows on the garage door hadn't been changed over yet either? Overall the house is looking stunning and my wife is using your build pictures as samples of what we would want to build. We are currently weighing up a big volume builder vs something like highview, thinking maybe we need a kickstarter where we can auction off stays in our house to our friends Build blog - http://hasslingthehoff.wordpress.com/ Porter Davis Hoffman 39 Knockdown rebuild. I think Highview would do themselves a favour if they build a display home of our version of the Fed 257 (at Mt Waverley) with updated finishes. Agree with what you've said about the existing one. Yes, I fear we will be pushing it to be in by 1st week of Dec now, but we can only hope. Possibly going to have to come up with a plan B. No, they haven't been changed but it is just a matter of sliding out the panels. Thanks for the comments! What an awesome idea, wish I'd thought of it! Haha! We supplied & builder eventually agreed after much convincing. Extra work for the plumber apparently Nice upgrades. Did you get any credit back for supplying your own? I think nice tapware and toilets are grossly underrated around here as the builders generally give you the cheapest available (I've seen really cheap tapware/toilets on a $800,000 custom built house!. I thought they were photos of Grohe products at first. I believe they make a great difference to the finish of a house. I used Grohe tapware and Caroma in my recent build. I didn't spend as much money on your door hardware as you did, I only went for Nidus hardware, with pull handle mortice locks externally using ball bearing hinges. 4 ball bearing hinges makes my 70kg 2340x1200 door effortless to swing. Love the build. I will be building something like this timeless design in the future. Re: Classic style weatherboard Melbourne - Random pics 456Nov 14, 2013 5:32 pm JB1 Nice upgrades. They downstairs powder room basin was never going to fit! I don't know what we were thinking! The room is narrow and the basin would have jutted out too far. So it has to be swapped. Diiiiiir!
