Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Classic style weatherboard Melbourne - Tiling 381Oct 16, 2013 10:05 am Good luck with the attack BB. Thanks Trees, yeah it's probably one of the most modern lights we chose but I think it works, it's for my son's room so for him it has the 'cool' aspect. He's only 4 so hopefully he trusts our tastes! Also it will be so easy to keep clean. Dust will just fall through and just a flick over every now and then with a feather duster should keep it gleaming. My choice of light fittings are fully enclosed or fully open so they don't become insect graveyards Re: Classic style weatherboard Melbourne - Tiling 383Oct 16, 2013 10:39 am That makes total sense. Hadn't thought of it actually! At one stage we were thinking of having a chandelier (a subtle one, not a hugely ornate one) in the living room but in the end we couldn't find one we liked. Probably a good thing! I wanted a chandelier where the glass faces down so insects can't get trapped or die in there, but it was really hard to find any in that style which also matched my kitchen pendants. But the rest are open style for that reason... Re: Classic style weatherboard Melbourne - Tiling 385Oct 16, 2013 3:05 pm Yeah I guess those are the drawbacks. But on the upside it will look amazing! I laughed at your comment people driving by who is the builder!!! We still get that now Not only through the build process but nearly 12 months later its still happening Re: Classic style weatherboard Melbourne - Tiling 387Oct 28, 2013 9:46 am Sorry for the delay in updating. Here's some pics of the finished tiles, although they need a good clean. Re: Classic style weatherboard Melbourne - Tiling 389Oct 29, 2013 10:55 am Thanks trees. Bit of a hiccup with the tessellated tiles, the tiler tells is the pattern would never work the way the retailer has suggested so we need to get the original square tiles, & since they're not in stock they have to be sourced elsewhere. Lights are being fitted today, can't wait to see. We still have not found anything suitable for the living area, we can't have anything that hangs too low because of the view and the mounted plasma. Next mission: a NICE letterbox! Not sure if it's the clash with the ceiling rose, or the fact that they had to be hung high so people don't hit their heads. Hmm. Anyway, stuck with it! Maybe it'll just take getting used to. C.S. Lewis Re: Classic style weatherboard Melbourne - Lighting & basins 392Oct 29, 2013 7:51 pm Said it before but I'll say it again...beautiful. I love the kitchen pendants, they look exactly like the ones I originally picked (off an on line store in Qld) with the bright SS trim. (I decided eventually to pic the matching pendants to my chandelier instead.) But I still love them! Also your ceiling rose looks like the one I had in my previous house. I really like my house design but if we had your builder over here, I would have changed in an instant. We purchased all our lights from Lights Lights Lights in Moonee Ponds (Melb) but that one is a common one you can find at a lot of places as it's a Mercator one. Specifically this: http://www.mercator.com.au/products/2456 Oh & thank you. The splashback came out well in the end considering we felt like we just rushed a decision on the tile. Those kitchen pendants are absolutely perfect! Good choice! I love how you have so many different light fixtures it makes it interesting! Regarding your entry light I'd wait to see what you think when flooring goes down etc it will change the area again. Re: Classic style weatherboard Melbourne - Lighting & basins 399Oct 31, 2013 9:55 am Hey GC, thanks for the kind words. Yes lighting is something hubby is passionate about and didn't mind spending the extra $. And yes do need to wait to see the finished look before judging those lights. The lights looked amazing in the shop. I think it's more to do with it having to be hung so high and that changing the look. Anyhoo, went up to the house last night and the power has been turned on, so got to try out all the lights. Gotta say, it felt truly magical!
