Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 05, 2013 9:38 pm Our custom designed ranch style house is just about to start and we've picked most of our colors. From what I read, it is pretty normal to start worrying that I've chosen wrong at this point! So I thought I'd stick them up here and see what other people say... Exterior: Pretty happy with all of this, what you others think? Bricks- Austral mushroom Roof and guttering- Woodland Grey Fascia- Paperbark Windows- Stone Beige (pretty much the same as Paperbark I think) Verandah posts- Paperbark Interior: Kitchen: wondering if this is all too boring and lifeless, or will it be sleek and beautiful as I am hoping?? Benches and island- Ice Snow caesarstone Lower cabinets- Formica, either Antler or Velveteen (help!) Wondered if Velveteen would be too close to the splashback color and look like we tried to match it but failed?! Upper cabinets- Formica Streetlight Splashback color- Dulux Jarrah (browny, slight kahki tinge) Floors- Inovar laminate in sumatran teak (lightish but not yellow or orange color, very neutral) Bathrooms: Tiles are from a display home we liked so I know I like them- a kind of mushroomy slightly brownish nothingy color with a marbleish swirl though them. Walls are gloss, floors are same but matt. I am wondering if floor should be a shade or so lighter? Bench: White Shimmer caesarstone Cabinets: Formica Birch (is that too boring being just a solid color?) Laundry: Bench- Formica Pure marble gloss (color selection lady chose this to match benches in other part of house to keep "the flow") Cabinets- Antler Tiles same as for bathrooms. I had wanted charcoal color bench in laundry with something like streetlight cabinets. Color lady swayed us to the darker cabinets as we will be using laundry as the mud room since we are on acreage, and would get dirty. Paint: This is where I am a bit stuck. I want not white, but not too colored, so just a bit not white but a warmish color not cool (sorry!) as it's a big open house. Liked Wattyl New Pearly Gates in a display home- I liked how it looked against the white cornices. Color lady chose Quaker White saying it loooked like Pearly Gates, but I am worried as I've never seen it in real life, just the little swatch. And sales man says the doors, architraves and skirts are normally same as walls but gloss so they will look a tad darker. Does this sound ok? I have no idea! I have a fairly good idea of what I like and want (and partner agrees suprisingly which makes life easier), but just don't want to stuff it up and hate it all so please tell me what is good and what wont work! Thanks! It's started! http://nickleglencastle.blogspot.com.au Re: About to start building and worried about colors 2Mar 06, 2013 2:50 pm Have you got sample pictures? Re: About to start building and worried about colors 3Mar 06, 2013 2:52 pm Also I was quite impressed with Wattyl's Linen White that was used on "The Block"in Phil and Amity's Hallway and front room Re: About to start building and worried about colors 4Mar 07, 2013 9:18 pm I have a photo of the colors, but can't work out how to post a pic here I read the instructions on how to do it, but I still can't work it out. It's started! http://nickleglencastle.blogspot.com.au Re: About to start building and worried about colors 5Mar 08, 2013 12:05 am You have so much light brown (which I LOVE by the way) that I think your doors and door frames should be WHITE not wall colour, especially coz you said yourself you like the way the colour goes against the cornices. Your kitchen benches are white too, against a light brown, so it'll be perfectly matched to your warm walls against white trim and doors. To be honest I hate houses that have the same colour on their trim and walls, it makes it all look bland. Why did the colour lady make you pick Quaker White when you specifically love the Pearly Gates? Sounds like you should stand your ground here.. The exterior facade sounds really nice. Bathroom tiles - I got a creamy light browny tile for bathrooms, like you they are matt on floor and gloss on walls. The glossy tiles naturally looks lighter than the floor anyway because the way the light reflects off it. I think you made a good choice. If I were you I'd consider getting white tile trim for the edges of your bath hob and window sill, it'll tie in nicely with your cabinet and bench. With your kitchen, I'd be more inclined to match the splashback to the benchtop rather than the cabinets, especially as you have upper cabinets. Otherwise there might be too much of that antler/streetlight type of colour. Have a look at the last page on my thread though, it has pics of all my colours, you might hate my taste and in that case, disregard everything I've said GOODLIFE - Bravo - BUTLER http://getmistyfied.blogspot.com.au Display 20/02/2012 PPA 01/04/12 Prestart: 25/07/12 Settlement: 31/07/2012 Contracts:August Slab 19/11/12 BRICKS 10/11/12 Roof 16/01/13 2 10934 You should be able to encase the sewer but you will need it designed and approved and access to lot 580 to do the work 2 17108 I want to build a decking to the drawn shape outlined in black.
