I'm a little impatient. Re: Blond1e's new Aveling home in Mandurah 87May 25, 2013 10:35 pm Hi everyone - WE GOT THEM!!!! Aveling were lovely and really went beyond to get us our keys yesterday. Our CLO was awesome. New SS was good too- some stuff wasn't done but he was great and said it was in hand and has gone a bit beyond to keep us smiling. Spent the day sealing the floors that are being carpeted and hubby has been drilling all the holes for the downlights- I'm sure you can see our house from outer space the lights are so bright and we've used so few. Painters are coming in Monday and hubby doing networking tomorrow. We requested junction boxes instead of lights as we are putting in our own downlights - at prestart we were shown these transparent plug things and were told they'd be in the ceiling but there are just white boxes that we can't connect to. Anyone else getting junction boxes? Been working at the house all day and shattered to sorry for the ramble but didn't want to neglect my H1 family. Re: Blond1e's new Aveling home in Mandurah 88May 25, 2013 11:27 pm So glad you're in. Re junction boxes blond1e, we were told they don't do them and that we'd have powerpoints in the ceiling. We went to Lakelands display today and rep was telling us about you guys having handover...... I know hehe Re: Blond1e's new Aveling home in Mandurah 89May 25, 2013 11:49 pm We wanted junction boxes or 413 which is an electrician said to put in if we were to do downlights afterwards but yes again we were told Aveling don't do them and we would need plug bases put in and its the same thing... Blond1e is it an issue with what you have installed? Anyone know why they don't do junction boxes? Re: Blond1e's new Aveling home in Mandurah 90May 26, 2013 1:03 am These are what we were shown at prestart and told that if we took out the normal lights they usually put in it would cost us $10 per point extra and we would get these ones below.... great because our downlights each have a plug on them so its a case of sparky just plugging them in for us really. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ but........... what we actually have in the roof space is something like this: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ which means sparky has to open the junction box, connect lots of little wires (you can tell I'm all technical can't you) - which in turn means more sparky time which in turn means more cost. Not sure whats happened between Aveling/electrician/us but someone has got it wrong. Re: Blond1e's new Aveling home in Mandurah 91May 26, 2013 1:07 am That's very strange because your first picture is what we were shown also... An had me thinking hmmm does that mean I have to have for each downlight we want to install... Are they all attached to the one light switch? So what you are left with? Is it still workable? Hav you questioned it with Aveling or is it just too late? What a remarkable difference though and a nuisance too since being one thing and given another - painful! Re: Blond1e's new Aveling home in Mandurah 92May 26, 2013 1:25 am The plug base (see thru thingy) is connected to one light switch and its my understanding if you wanted 4 downlights you'd have to use a 4 way adapter to plug all your downlights into and then plug that into the plug base. It was a bit of a nuisance as we've paid for something we don't have (only $50 so not too much of a bother) and we were all set today to get everything installed and had to call it off for the day because we needed to rethink things. But now hubby has spoken with sparky they have a better idea to use sequencial plug bases to join the downlights and don't need the plug base that Aveling was supposed to put in. As its a Saturday and Aveling are closed we couldn't call them to discuss. Re: Blond1e's new Aveling home in Mandurah 93May 26, 2013 6:56 pm Congrats Blond1e How disappointing! Hope you get lights in your new home soon. Noting that down now, my list of questions to ask at prestart is growing quickly. Re: Blond1e's new Aveling home in Mandurah 94May 26, 2013 7:22 pm Congratulations on getting keys!! Must be such a relief. The clear plastic thing is a 413, also known as 'powerpoint in the roof' Realistically they aren't that much different from a junction box, yes you can plug a single light into it, but for a room full of downlights, the same amount of work is needed. An electrician will typically install one of these at each downlight to plug into. They still need to join into the first point the builder installs, whether it be a 413 or a junction. Hope that clears it up somewhat! Thank you Re: Blond1e's new Aveling home in Mandurah 96May 26, 2013 10:18 pm Congrats on the keys!!! Jaceb has been wonderfully illuminating in shedding some light on your junction boxes. Hope you get the lights on soon My Build viewtopic.php?f=31&t=64881 Re: Blond1e's new Aveling home in Mandurah 98May 27, 2013 12:19 am Jaceb thanks so much - very helpful. makes sense. Have to phone Aveling in the morning as the white box things that are currently in the roof aren't properly terminated - they just have wires in them with insulation tape round the live wires and are not actual junction boxes like the pic I pasted above.
