Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Modified Geneva Fairmont build @ Seaford Meadows 41Mar 31, 2013 6:22 pm We have the three step one in our main areas and plain in the bedrooms. Think we will just stick to the Flokati. If we really hate the colour in the bathrooms we can repaint probably cheaper than the cost they will charge us for changing now after the build has started. Re: Modified Geneva Fairmont build @ Seaford Meadows 42Mar 31, 2013 8:37 pm Oh dear! This sucks! Hubby through my cardboard in the bin thinking it was rubbish!!! How accurate can they make these colours in the small tins I wonder? Mine was almost as white as my ceiling white in this house!?! Shheesh...who would have though paint colour would be such a pain! Re: Modified Geneva Fairmont build @ Seaford Meadows 43Mar 31, 2013 8:49 pm Wow seriously! Yeah when I first rolled them all out they all looked the same. When they dried, the winter sky look the most cream. I thought I was going insane and that the tins must have been swapped but all my family agreed that the swatches matched up. Sooooooo..... I don't mind the Flokati now as long as it wasn't swapped around. Have checked others builds that have used Flokati and it is hard to tell in photos. Some are grey some look cream. Going to roll with it though. On to my next drama, pavers or deck for outside entertaining. It is in the ushape outside our dining area and will prob go to fence. Was thinking I'll pave all way to edge along that side of house and then grass the back. Just tossing up whether to deck the rectangle though. It wouldn't allow kids to ride along there though. Hmmmmmm. Not sure if I'm a fan of this building thing. How did you ever manage to do it 3 times Amy! Re: Modified Geneva Fairmont build @ Seaford Meadows 44Mar 31, 2013 8:51 pm I don't know how I've done it this many times!!!! I guess it's like childbirth......you forget as soon as its all over hehehe! I noticed a few months ago Fairmont listed all the specs on their display homes including paint on the website. I just tried looking then and it's not listed any more (grrrr!) I think we may have to pay the displays a visit along with our tile samples etc! Re: Modified Geneva Fairmont build @ Seaford Meadows 45Mar 31, 2013 8:52 pm Yeah that is a good idea. If you want the sample pots I have you are more than welcome to try them out. Or the cardboard they are on! Re: Modified Geneva Fairmont build @ Seaford Meadows 46Mar 31, 2013 9:03 pm Some of the homes on the fairmont site have the specs written and others don't, very annoying. I had a look at the ones that do. I am leaning towards divinity. decking looks nice but you do have to maintain it. I think we will tile alfresco and grass after that. Not a big fan of pavers either as the weeds grow through and they are hard to get out, hmmmm. I try to balance aesthetics with practicality and low maintenance. Re: Modified Geneva Fairmont build @ Seaford Meadows 47Mar 31, 2013 9:05 pm We don't have a slab there so tiles are prob out of question without doing some more concreting. Wonder how to avoid weeds in pavers? Also don't think I'd be good at looking after decking. Love the comparison to child birth Re: Modified Geneva Fairmont build @ Seaford Meadows 50Mar 31, 2013 9:44 pm I waa going to do the 3 coat system but the price was crazy. It will be half the price to do after handover. So if you need to change a couple of rooms colour it would be cheaper to do after. And that way if you like the colour you can keep it. I am thinking of doing a feature wall in each bedroom, but again after handover. Building is like pregnancy as well really (and takes that long), and somehow we forget what an endurance that is too esp with morning sickness! Yes that is true. My gestation period is starting to resemble that of an elephant though (22months I think it is for them)
Re: Modified Geneva Fairmont build @ Seaford Meadows 52Mar 31, 2013 10:12 pm Yep, it is going to be a while for us as well, waiting on land to settle. Better than having the land settle and waiting on the builder though. Feel free to follow our build! viewtopic.php?f=31&t=59958 Re: Modified Geneva Fairmont build @ Seaford Meadows 54Apr 01, 2013 1:03 am I did some googling and came across this random Facebook photo album. I found the link on another forum and it said that the house was painted in Winter Sky. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set ... c4aa2d85be Feel free to follow our build! viewtopic.php?f=31&t=59958 Re: Modified Geneva Fairmont build @ Seaford Meadows 55Apr 01, 2013 8:56 am sammymac I did some googling and came across this random Facebook photo album. I found the link on another forum and it said that the house was painted in Winter Sky. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set ... c4aa2d85be Ha, I did the same thing the other night Sammy and found the same Facebook album. Problem is I've done the same with Flokati and it all looks different in different photos When I say more cream it is in comparison to the other two, the others have this stuff/colour in it that make it look dirtier (so the lady told me). It's Not cream on its own and not so much yellow cream as just cleaner off white. can't find a better way to explain. they are all on massive boards together. Technically they are all an off white. When I first painted them they all looked the same until they started to dry. I'll get it in good light and take a pic. I'm still not convinced though. We are going to get one more pot of Flokati from somewhere else just to check it was same and not mixed up. You are welcome to the Winter sky pot if you'd like it. Re: Modified Geneva Fairmont build @ Seaford Meadows 56Apr 01, 2013 9:31 am Haha, I think we are both stressing too much. I just hope that the winter sky will go with our black and grey. Thanks for the offer. I'll pass though because there's no changing the colour now anyway. I'll just freak out in the meantime! Feel free to follow our build! viewtopic.php?f=31&t=59958 Re: Modified Geneva Fairmont build @ Seaford Meadows 57Apr 01, 2013 9:43 am Yeah I'm a stresser in case you couldn't tell. Glad I'm not the only one in the area! I'm sure both our houses will be fine. No, more than fine, wonderful. Need to stop looking at everyone else's as it starts me off. Re: Modified Geneva Fairmont build @ Seaford Meadows 58Apr 01, 2013 9:51 am I noticed the same thing with the photos, lighting makes such a difference too and surrounding colours. I think it will be fine as the paint will reflect the colours you have chosen which are all really nice. Re your alfresco I think my preference having had both would be pavers. You might like to consider if you have not already the level of your alfresco, ie. do you want to raise the level so you step out of your house onto the pavers or do you want to step down onto the pavers. Yeah I did wonder about the level. We are having our paving all the way around house and then on left all way to the fence. I think the retaining has allowed for the extra height of pavers to meet finished floor level. I don't really want to step down but if it needs to be that way for the rest of paving guess I'll have to settle with it. That is what we have at our current house. Re: Modified Geneva Fairmont build @ Seaford Meadows 60Apr 01, 2013 10:26 am Yep in our old house we had a step down too. I chose decking as that was a cheaper option to raise the level to the house. I then had a step down further on to the paving. |
