Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 02, 2013 5:52 pm Hello All, We are supplying a sink, cooktop, HWS, and toilets and would like to know if anybody has ever had to insure these? The builder has insurance however this does not cover owner supplied items. Has anybody ever bothered with getting additional insurance for miscellaneous items and was it expensive? Thanks for your help Purchased Land: October 2010 Pre Quotation: August 2012 Pre Start Complete: 29 Nov 2012 Refinance for Build approved: 11 March 2013 Due to commence build!!!! Re: Building Insurance - Owner Supplied Goods 2Mar 02, 2013 6:26 pm We supplied some of the items for our build, we would only deliver on the day they were to be installed. Did not arrange for any additional insurance either. For the items you have mentioned, after installation, I can't imagine they would be stolen, however they will not be covered if they are damaged either. How are you purchasing these items? some credit cards will offer 90 days insurance on items that are Accidently damaged or stolen... If there are plenty of houses already established in the area, this would put my mind at ease as well. Re: Building Insurance - Owner Supplied Goods 3Mar 02, 2013 7:11 pm There is no difference if you supply the items or if the builder gets them elsewhere (provided your building contract allows you to supply the items in question). Once he has accepted delivery, they are in his care and subject of builder's own insurance. Once you have builder's signature on the delivery docket in my opinion you need not do any more.
