Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 28, 2013 9:17 pm Hi all, I need a little advice in regards to getting engineering done for a retaining wall. As part of a new home build I need to build a retaining wall on both sides of the property for the cut and fill. They will range in height between 0.2m-1.2m(approx 20m long) on one side, and 0.2m-1.6m(approx 30m long) on the other side. For the retaining walls I’m looking at using galvanised steel posts with pine sleepers. So the builder has advised that I need to provide engineers design & certification, (Builder will submit to council with the house plans. The builder has provided the contact details of the local engineer that they use, who has also done the soil tests and slab design for the house. Given that they already have the background to the site and the house plans I’m going to contact them to start with. So I can be prepared before I contact them, I have 3 questions that I’m hoping someone might be able to provide some experience on: - What details will I need to provide/what questions will they have for me? I’m guessing its similar to what iv described above? Drawings indicating where I want/need the retaining wall? - What sort of cost should I be expecting to pay for the engineering work to be completed? - From what I understand, I need an engineer to design the wall and provide the calculations etc. But once this part is done(and council has approved) I can still DIY the building of the wall I believe (as long as I build to the design of course) Anything else I have missed? Thanks in advance for your help! Thank you again Simeon.. I will call my certifier for that. There maybe should be an additional J1 between TB10 and T12 if… 3 31749 Thanks for all replies. I just noticed now the pictures I added to post right on top of page were wrong. I attached pictures showing "current" and my "suggested" floor… 9 14609 |
