We have to pay the electrical contractors $600 to get the electricity on the premises. It's crazy the amount of things which are not covered in the building contract. Can't wait for all of this to finish. BTW, we just paid our last instalment and could pick up the keys anytime now. Re: Who else is building at Oran Park? 5693May 04, 2016 10:09 am Please can some recommend a good home and contents insurer. Re: Who else is building at Oran Park? 5695May 04, 2016 8:18 pm Hi all, Does $650 sound appropriate to install the electricity meter at a new house? SS told us that cable is already installed and an electrician just needs to install the meter. Electrical contractor for champion homes quoted us $720 and wants around 15 working days to provide the electricity to the property. I didn't mind the price so much, but 15 working days sounded excessive. I followed up with a local electrician (AJ Electrics) and he quoted $650 and could do it anytime in the next 2-3 days. All he needs is an NMI number, which said we should get from Origin/AGL. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. With all due respect Reddevil but all electrical connections were done by my builder and included in the price. I don't understand why they would charge you extra to connect your electricity meter. Otherwise $650 sounds reasonable. LOVING MY FAMILY TO THE MOON & BACK!! I'm going to write up a lengthy post about the pitfalls and nasty surprises involved in building a house right from negotiating a tender through to PCI and obtaining the keys. But yeah, coming back to this (electrical meter), they never told us about this at the time of contract. Surprise surprise ha. Honestly I can't wait for it to be done and over with. So based on your price assertion, I'd go with this guy (AJ electrics). Thanks for the reply. Kept checking the app for replies every 20 mins . BTW, we'd be picking up the keys on Monday and moving in, in a couple of weeks. Thanks all. Regards. From memory we had to pay $660 and I think it was for the connection cause we had to also provide the Nmi number. A survey must’ve completed by a certified surveyor.
